cannot change default Windows Media Player .wmv.

Whenever I get an attachment to a .wmv file, it is always default to Nero Showtime Essentials.  I go to my default programs icon in the control panel and change to Windows Media Player.  It changes accordingly.  Next time I get another .wmv file, I have to do this all over again.  Why it can be in default Windows Media Player instead of the Nero program?  In other words, how can I make this change permanently?

  • Cannot re - install Windows Media Player on Windows 7 Home Premium after I uninstalled it.

I bought my new system with Windows 7 Home Premium Edition/64-bit internet. I went on a site and tried to play videos (type video.asx) and I got this missing codec error message. So I researched and downloaded codecs and stuff packs. Still did not work. Well, I knew that the videos played on my other Xp System, which uses a different media player, so I removed the center of my Windows 7 Media Player hoping to install an older player that works. I discovered that it won't work. So now I was trying to re - install Center of media player for my Win7HomePremium and I cannot get installed it. I guess that these 2 downloads I found were are only for Windows 7 N and Windows 7 KN editions.

Do you know what I have to do?

    Thanksk

Make sure that your WMP is the 32-bit default (even for W7 64-bit) version. It has built more than 64-bit codecs.

Works out of the box for me.
You can always install a codec package - Klite for example.

  • My music files have changed in WMA format in Windows Media Player, and now my MP3 player won't play them.

My music files have changed in wma format in windows media player, and now my mp3 player won't play them.  can anyone help please.

    original title: Media Player

Download and install WMA to MP3 Converter, then install it, you can get it here... http://www.WMA-MP3.org/

Then select all the WMA files you want to convert, and then convert them to the MP3 Format.
The reason why they are WMA is because when you ripped the files on the disc to your pc, by default, Windows Media Player is configured to save in the Windows Media Audio (WMA) Format.
This default can be changed by opening Media Player and click on Tools > Options
Then select the Rip music tab
Format: select MP3 from the drop-down list.
    Click apply and OK.
Now the next time you rip a CD on your drive hard it will be automatically saved as an MP3 file.
  • How to install Windows Media Player 12

    Windows media player

    Please note only once;

looking at my list of program I have Windows player 11 and window media player 11 times by using the memory space is this necessary? can I remove these and replace with media player 12? What problems I have to

    Hi patriciabrown,

Windows Media Format Runtime 11 is for people who want to use the latest Windows Media Player codecs without installing Windows Media Player 11.

Windows Media Format runtime is required for WMA (Windows Media Audio) and WMV (Windows Media Video). It is also recommended that you keep Windows player 11 and window media player 11 runtime.

You cannot install the Windows media player 12 on Windows XP because there is no standalone package out yet, and this is only available in the Windows 7 operating system.

  • Windows Media Player will not play mp3 or mp4, but Windows and YouTube work OK

When I go to a media file (.mp3 or .mp4) and click on it, I get a message
Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file.

By clicking [help] and follow the signs, I see that my computer has two devices in the "Sound, video and game controllers" section, both have the status "this device works correctly.

I get Windows sounds normally (startup, etc.). Can I play a clip from YouTube and videos that I prepared myself with Camtasia.  However the same video will not play when I click the .mp4 and Windows selects the default Windows Media Player program.

    How can I fix it?

    Thank you, Robert.

    Hi Robert,

It looks like .mp4 files are not supported by Windows Media Player.

    Reference:

Information on the types of media files that supports Windows Media Player

Video MPEG-4 can be encoded and stored in an .asf file container by using the tools of Windows Media and Windows Media Encoder. You can then read these files with Windows Media Player. For more information about Microsoft and MPEG-4 support, visit the Microsoft Web site at the following address:

You can search your favorite engine and download and install the codec that is compatible with the operating system.
