Cannot copy a virtual machine to a hard drive external

Hi all

I tried to make a copy of my Windows XP Professional.vmwarevm from my Mac OS X (10.5.6) my WD My Passport. I get the following error: "sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error has occurred. (Error code 0) »

I am able to reproduce the VM in the same directory as the existing virtual machine but I can't copy it externally. I did ensure that VMware Fusion is not running in the background and I stopped him before doing so. I also deleted the application folder within the contents of the package as VM ordered in another post that is bad to copy.

I upgrade the latest version of VMWare Fusion and also upgraded the virtual machine so everything should be updated.

I don't really know what else to do, and honestly, I'm a little scared because I want to have a backup and also I'm moving to a new laptop and don't want to have to reinstall everything.

Thank you

Callista

Is your external drive formatted as a FAT drive or Mac OS extended.

If it's a FAT format drive (like most out-of-the-box USB drives), then a second question: you selected the option to create floppy disks to the virtual machine with the option "divided into 2 GB files?

If this is not the case, this explains the problem. FAT formatted disks are limited to a maximum individual file of 4 GB size. Files Mac OS merger creates home that the virtual disk will be more often be larger than if you do not choose the option of split disk.

If this is the case, you have one of two choices:

(1) reformat the USB (with Mac disk utility) as a Mac OS Extended format disc. Once you do this, all data currently on the drive will be lost and you will not be able to use the drive with Windows.

or

(2) convert the virtual machine disk to 'divide into 2 GB files'. With the Fusion 2.x, you can do so directly from the virtual machine settings. Then you should be able to copy the VM on your USB.

  • Cloning a virtual machine with 2 hard drives!

    Hi all!

I ran into a very annoying problem. I'm trying to Migrate/convert virtual machines to a host in the CR. Each virtual machine has 2 hard drives which are located on 2 different data stores. When I try to migrate or to clone virtual machines from the host on my Cluster I get an 'error of operation period.

After scratching my head for a while, I discovered why. The virtual machine have 2 hard drives on 2 different data stores. Both flat.vmdk files are called eponymous because they are on different data warehouses (TTDC001.vmdk). I created a VM test on the cluster with 2 hard drives and flat.vmdk flies are named TTDC001.vmdk and TTDC001_1.vmdk.

So my conclusion as to why I get "Opération Timeout Error" is that VC trying Migrate/Clone to the virtual machine but is mistake because his attempts to migrate/Clone 2 hard files with the same name!

Can someone give me some pointers as to how I can get around this? I am currently copy the file hard 2nd to my deskop from the data store and rename it then copy him on the new cluster data store to see if it works as you cannot rename the file hard in the data store. It just seems long way round to migrate virtual machines with 2 hard drives, and I don't even know if it works!

    Andy of the evening,

I do it well. Thank you for asking.

So if I'm reading correctly it seems that you are trying to clone a virtual machine from a stand-alone host to a host that is part of a VMware Cluster. When you do this you get a network midway through the copy error. Is this correct?

Can you confirm how fast is connected to the Service Console between the two servers? For this kind of work I would recommend making them run at 1000/full, assuming you're not already. Could you also post the entire message that you get when the clone fails.

    Kind regards

  • Help create the VM hard drive external

    Hello

I am trying to create a virtual machine from a hard drive that was in my laptop.  It is a 80G drive and XP Media Edition installed with a recovery partition separate.  (Gateway)  I searched a few threads and continuum has a very useful post:

    Hello
by far the simplest to do that involves a few steps

    support:
do it on a computer that has the installed desktop - allows you to call this machine adminhost
the portable hard drive is used inside a USB connected to this computer box

    Carefully follow them

    1. open the adminhost diskmanagement

    • find the usb drive and note that numero_disque uses it - say for example it uses disk3
    • Right-click on each partition and remove the driveletters are subsequently assigned

    2. open VMware Workstation as an administrator!

    • create a new virtual machine using option "I will install later.
    • Select Windows 7 guestOS
    • assign the same amount of RAM as the old laptop used to have
    • store the virtual machine in a path with enough free disk space - Let's E:\vms\laptop-import
    • When the virtual machine is created will NOT start
    • Remove the hard drive that has been created with the wizard
    • Add a new hard drive - select disk physical option and select the numero_disque looked you up in step 1
    • Select use "full disk" and save the vmdk as E:\vms\laptop-import\rawdisk.vmdk
    • do not start the virtual machine and close the station work

    3. open a cmd as administrator

    • CD in the WS install directory such as C:\programfiles\vmware\vmware-workstation
    • Enter vmware - vdiskmanager.exe - a help screen should be displayed
    • now type vmware - vdiskmanager.exe - r E:\vms\laptop-import\rawdisk.vmdk t 0 E:\vms\laptop-import\new.vmdk
    • a process of conversion should start now - let the finsih - this may take some time

    4. open my computer again

    • Open the virtual machine and modify virtual hardware
    • Delete rawdisk.vmdk and add new.vmdk instead
    • Start the virtual machine now

    5. look what he does at first start

    • disc read error, cursor blinking at the top left of the screen... This means that your case is trickiert what you said to us ;-)
    • BlueScreen 7B - good - all right - to setp 6.
    • the virtual machine starts completely - congratulations - you are a lucky guy and your laptop used an Intelchipset

    6 patch the drivers

    • start the converter 5 betaor a recent version of different
    • 'Configure the machine' Wizard and select the new virtual machine

  • When the wizard has completed successfully, you are finished
  • 7. If the converter does not... no problem - download or create a Windows 7 recovery CD and attach the vmx file to your next post

However, in step 3 during the conversion process it stops at 27% and gives an error.  I've attached a screenshot of it.

    Thanks for any help!

Wow - this XP is not really to be converted.
It has set up a strong resistance ;-)

Converter is a not - we tried to any version.
Finally, I had to use a LiveCD MOA and install the vmscsi driver manually.

So at the end of the day, the virtual machine starts and we are facing by WoodyZ

  • Trying to copy a virtual machine from one server to another

    Hi all

I'm new to ESXi 4, although I used VMWare Workstation for years.  I am trying to copy a virtual machine from a Windows system (Sysprep) from one host to another.  The two hosts are identical systems with the exact same ESXi host configuration.  Same hw, same version of ESXi, same setup, same size of the partition.

When I use the Vsphere data store browse to 'download' the vmdk and vmx files to a local drive (Windows Server 2003), I get the following 3 files: the same vmx file, a tiny vmdk file and a file huge filename - flat hard.  The file vmdk on browser to store data from the source host is about 23 GB.  The flat on the local system vmdk file is almost 63 GB.

Can I reopen Vsphere on the destination server and "load" the 3 files in a directory that I created in the data store.  Once there, I use the browser "Add to inventory."  When I try to turn on the virtual machine, I get the error message "not enough space on the data store."

Any ideas of what I could have done wrong?  Again the data store configuration is identical:

Local disk to VMware: 62.95 GB, Total formatted capacity: 62,75 GB.  1 VMFS 3.33 MB block size it's the only VM on the system.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mark

What you see is by design.

When you try to copy a disc loaded end service, with the browser data store or FastSCP, the virtual disk will be inflated. Use the converter such as recommended by AlbertWT.

Since the virtual disks of destination must already 60 GB of disk space you may not able to power on the virtual machine, because there is not enough disk space for the swap file, which is the size of the configured RAM (less reserve, if necessary).

  • Cannot access Windows Virtual Machine in OSX! Help, please!

Attached is a screenshot of the error I get when I try to open my virtual machine and a screenshot of the error if I try to remove the snapshot through "settings".  I restored an older VM with Time Machine, now I get this error when you try to run the virtual machine.  I tried to uninstall, delete the virtual machine, shut down the computer, reinstall VMware Fusion (which already had my serial number filled in for me) and then back to the VM backed up by Time Machine.  No luck.  Now, instead of a few files missing I want to recover... I can't access my VM at all.  Not good, any help would be appreciated.

No doubt useful to add that I had the idea to uninstall from another thread of subject "fangs" tiled "Lost access to the merger after restoring from Time Machine" maybe it would work if I reinstalled and my serial number has not been filled

in?  Anyone know any more and more stuff inbetween closing

    Uninstall and install?

Well, that was good of you talk and after getting your data from the files just mounting hard copy create a new Virtual Machine from the hard base file and go from there.  Once you are satisfied, you have all of your data, you can get rid of the copy that you made on the external hard drive.  If you have any other questions just post and one of us will try to answer.

    Have a good.

    1 cloned an atual VM (as pode ser feito com an origem watch VM);

    2 copy os archives da VM clonada para o outro datastore vCenter;

    3. no data store don't do novo vCenter, service one pasta da VM e clicar com direito button no land e .vmx selecionar didn't add to the inventory.

  • Copy the virtual machine files

    Hello

I would like to know if I had to copy a virtual machine on my personal laptop, what files should I copy? Told me that VMDK files are not enough. That is why I want to what files exactly?

And also if my application VM and the VM database are 2 different servers, it will work if I copy them and run them on my laptop?

    Thank you.

If you laptop is isolated from the area, you'll need to local users account on the virtual machine, so I suggest you note the local administrator account and the password and check if this account is activated.

Just a further point, if the services in the system VMs depends on domain services, for example: If you are using a domain account to run, you need will change this setting to use the local account and give the necessary permission for this local account.

  • Copy of Virtual Machine from external drive to SAN

    Hello

I'm looking for advice on the best way to copy a Virtual Machine and its files from an external USB drive on an ESX Datastore (the data store is a logic on the SAN unit number that is attached to the ESX Server).

I was going to connect a PC on the same VLan, set the USB to the PC then load vSphere Client, navigate to the data store and then choose 'download files '.  This is the recommended option?  I remember reading somewhere before on formatting the USB drive in FAT32 and then mount it on the ESX Server?

    Thank you.

Forget about editing of the USB key to the ESX host. Just use vSphere client to transfer files, or enable SSH access to your host and use SCP (WinSCP or FastSCP are great options) to transfer your files to your data warehouses.

If this post was useful/solved your problem, please mark the points of wire and price as seem you. Thank you!

or you can just power up the virtual machine off the coast and make a migration.  One of the options will be to move the disc as well.

  • 700 HP printer/fax machine: HP's model 700 printer/fax machine have a hard drive?

Old sending team to the recycler. Is a HP 700 printe/fax model has a hard drive or whatever it is that records information?

The answer is probably not, old inkjet fax machines had no hard drives, when you think about what they cost and what a hard drive costs as you realize there is no way that HP would put that expensive a part in a low-cost machine.

  • How to copy the recovery on the new HARD drive partition, HARD drive failed?

    Hallo,

I have a Compaq Mini netbook with Windows 7 Starter.

The HARD drive has failed and it is not repairable. However, it seems that the recovery partition is OK.

I want to buy a new HARD drive, install the driver on the netbook, and then use the tools/recovery partition to install windows 7 on a new PC.

So, the question is simple: how to copy the recovery for the new HARD drive partition?

    Hello s91066.

If your hard drive of your laptop doesn't have? If this is the case, what do you mean by the "recovery partition is ok? I doubt that this laptop has two hard disks, so if you are able to see this partition of your hard drive may still work.

You will need a set of recovery disks to restore the partitions on the new drive. If you can start Windows, which you can probably not with a dead hard drive, you can follow these steps if you can get into Windows.

If you are unable to boot into Windows, you need a set of disks. You can order it directly from HP. The number of the United States / Canada is 1-800-474-6836. If you are in another domain, you must visit HP's Support around the world to find contact information for your region.

I hope that is useful; have a great weekend!

No Lightroom does not use a different catalog.

We discuss records, are we not? In the original catalog, you have a folder with one? mark, say C:\Photos, and you used your operating system to move it to F:\Photos. Lightroom has this record showing under the C:\ drive. As soon as you make the reconnection, Lightroom indicates the folder in the drive F:\.

Oh, and is there a way to do all the files at once? or what I need to do one at a time?

See Figure 4 and the corresponding text in the document I linked to.
