Cannot create folders shared with VMware Fusion Pro 8

Just updated to VMware Fusion Pro 8 and having problems of shared folders. Although the Win 7 Pro system is the area of our society, he is unable to see other computers (apart from himself) on the network. I am also unable to share folders the with the Mac OS. I followed the instructions a few times below and failed to make it work:

Windows

To configure a shared folder in a Windows virtual machine:

1 launch VMware Fusion.

2. turn on the virtual machine.

3 click on Virtual Machine > settings.

4. click on sharing.

5 in Fusion 7.x, select enable shared folders. Molten 6.x, 5.x, 4.x turn files option ON the Shared. In Fusion 3.x, select shared folders on your Mac option.

6. click on the button +.

7 navigate to the folder on the Mac which will be shared with the virtual machine and click Add.

Shared folders are accessible via the shared folders shortcut on the Windows desktop or the network Z: drive VMware.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thank you!

Looks like it was too easy to install "VMware Tools". Seems to work now.

Windows machines usually use WINS to resolve DNS without using the FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) and Mac OS X is not. Make sure that you use the domain name COMPLETE for the server name.

    Example: smb: / /ServerName. CompanyDoman.com/espaces wslocal017/work/gdejager /.

Hey, pregnant.  Yes, I see that it is empty.  I think the problem is buried somewhere in the registry.

My only suggestion is to use Windows Explorer to create the folders and shortcuts in your document folder and drag and drop them on your desktop.

  • How can I add a former VM from VMware Fusion Pro library?

    Hello.

How to manually add an old Mac OS X VM (v10.7.x in Spanish) in the library of VMware Fusion Pro v6.0.2? Usually, VMware autoadds in my library, but it is not by adding at all. How can I do it manually?

    Thank you in advance.

That worked earlier, but I understood what caused it:library of Virtual Machine: shared vs not?

It was the permissions on the files of my VM. If they are full access to all accounts, it is shared. :/

  • Help with VMware Fusion... VM does not start... Please :)

My vmware fusion vm will not start. I get an error message:

    File "/ users/user/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows7.vmwarevm/Windows 7.vmx" line 1: syntax error.

I have attached the newspapers and the generosity and skill vmx file to help a nice person. Thank you!

    Greg

The attached file "Windows_7.vmx.zip" contains a new 'Windows 7.vmx' file created from the supplied vmware.log file.

With VMware Fusion closed unzip (double-click on) attached file "Windows_7.vmx.zip" and replace the file "Windows 7.vmx" original by one here.

  • Cannot open my XP in VMware Fusion

I have a Mac Book Pro with VMware Fusion installed.  I have an image of XP Pro that I use for my work.  I ran more disk space and added more reader FEPs XP image.  He said that I had to reboot and does not load my picture.  Can someone please. Sorry, but I m desperate!  That's all that I need for work.  Thanks for any help I can get!

For completeness of the thread, I was able to with TeamViewer remote desktop and start the Virtual Machine from the Windows CD and run the FIXBOOT and FIXMBR commands and it was precisely the FIXMBR command that did the trick.

Also while the BIOS is configured to boot the CD first there not even if it was a well known bootable CD.  What is interesting, has been the same if the Start Menu showed he was all first I went to the BISO and looked the boot order and it was indeed in the BIOS.  However, I decided to leave record of changes, even if I don't have any, and it was after this that it could boot from the CD.  While it must be booted anyway based on the settings and it was not so I have to assume that save settings for a second time, which enabled him to start then as nothing else changed which had already defined or tried.  So if you are in this situation, do not boot from a known bootable CD and the BIOS is set to boot it CD first, perhaps to save the settings of the BIOS for the second time will help get it to boot from the CD.  This obviously requires that the CD/DVD is connected to grabbed the host  That he was in this case even thought that he would not start before you save the BIOS settings, the second time.

Problem solved, in any case the lessons learned and everything's fine.

Larry, it was nice to talk to you and I'm glad that the issue could be resolved without pain.  Have a good!

  • How to create a DVD with DVD Studio Pro and an external DVD burner?

    Hello

I am trying to create a DVD with DVD Studio Pro. My internal DVD drive no longer works. I have an external DVD burner - slim portable DVD writer. I create the project into DVD Studio Pro, and when in the program, it works fine when I "stimulate". Well, I can't burn it.  When I look for the external DVD writer in my finder, it is not and I don't know how or where to select the option so it is programmed to burn the external DVD writer. Any advice? Thank you have a great week.

I found a thread that has addressed this issue, but does not help me to solve my problem. Meg the dog was told this to her in question written by Scott Stark. I tried his solution of generation and format, but after pressing the burn a window appears saying "insert disc please insert acceptable DVD recordable media."  I tried to use another blank DVD, it did not help. I use Word for Word, I heard that those who are the best blank DVDs, you can buy. Thanks again for your time!

  • Sharing folders hidden in VMware Fusion

    Hello

A that someone managed to share a hidden folder (ie. a directory starting with a '. ') in VMware Fusion? For example, I want to share my directory ~/.ssh with my vm linux client.

When I try to add a folder in the GUI, it appears a search dialog box but does not display hidden folders. I can't find any option to display these files. If this is not the case, is there a command line tool that I have will allow me to do?

    See you soon,.

    Dave

Even if you expose files hidden in Finder that will allow you to see them in Virtual Machine > settings... > sharing or you will be able to see displayed by default in the operating system invited via '\\vmware-host\Shared' files , unless you change the settings to view the folders hidden with the hosts control however operating systems here is a workaround.

Using your need to see the hidden file ~/.ssh here, that's what I did.

The following has been done with the Virtual Machine to stop target of in the guest operating system, not suspended by VMware Fusion.

In my case, I made a folder named temporarily: dotssh

In my Virtual Machine under sharing settings I added a folder by selecting the dotssh file and then closed VMware Fusion and then deleted the folder ~/dotssh .

Then I edited the configuration of the Virtual Machine's .vmx file.

When I added the dotssh shared folder it added several lines of parameters to the configuration of the Virtual Machine's .vmx file, and two in particular that I edited then manually.

    sharedFolder0.hostPath = "~/dotssh"
    sharedFolder0.guestName = "dotssh"

    I then changed to:

    sharedFolder0.hostPath = "~/.ssh"
    sharedFolder0.guestName = ".ssh"

Next I opened VMware Fusion and started Virtual Machine and once at the level of the Windows desktop, I double-clicked the shortcut "VMware shared folders" and he opened the Windows Explorer "\\vmware-host\Shared records" and of course this folder appears empty as I had no other normal folders shared nor was the guest operating system configured to display hidden however folders add "\.ssh" to the "\\vmware-host\Shared records" in the address bar has allowed me to see the content of the .ssh my Home on Mac folder.

Then I made a new desktop shortcut pointing to "\\vmware-host\Shared.ssh" to use instead of the shortcut to "VMware Shared Folders" by default, but I could also see hidden folders of the guest operating system and then would the .ssh folder without having to type in the address bar or create a new shortcut It's your choice.

  • Genuine Windows 7 on MacBook Pro running in the partition, BootCamp with VMware Fusion 3.1

I'm having a problem with Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit.

I installed Windows 7 on my Bootcamp partition and until recently he worked well as well when I ran into VMWare Fusion.

When I boot on my Windows 7 on Bootcamp partition, everything is OK.  But then when I run it in VMWare Fusion it says that my copy is not genuine.

I just went through the automated phone system and entered the codes, and so now while I'm running Fusion Windows is genuine.

I fear, however, that when I return to the execution of the partition, Bootcamp, Windows will say that is not true, once again.

Only, I have a copy of Windows 7 and can only run from the VMWare Fusion or Bootcamp partition at any time.

How can I fix it if Windows is more said that it is not authentic, when I switch from a training camp and VMWare Fusion?

I need to be able to run Windows while I'm on the side of Mac at the same time

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you used the same Windows Installer Bootcamp, VMWare Fusion product key, there is the question.  You can only install and activate a 1 license of Windows 7.  The second installation requires own license that you can buy on the Microsoft Store. Carey Frisch

  • VMWare Fusion Pro

    Hi all

Two questions: can I create of virtual machines with Fusion Pro? And I can change the hardware settings on virtual machines with Fusion Pro? i.e. Add another network connection, modify a serial port, change the hard drive sizes, etc...

Context: I buy a new laptop for a company I put in place, and I'm looking at a mac. Most of my software is windows based, which is not a problem, because I already use VMWare workstation on my PC. But I can not run on a mac Workstation, so if I need to create new virtual machines, I have to go back to a PC workstation, or can Fusion Pro do?

Option B is to create a virtual Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8 using my existing PC, then basically save them as models and the clone necessary to make new machines.

Option C is to use the PC to create a windows virtual machine, and then use Fusion to run VMWare Workstation on the virtual machine on the mac, and save the virtual machine, I create the machine host to run them using VMWare fusion. But that means the purchase of two packages, and besides, I'm worried that Xzibit will appear and say "Yo dawg, I you herd as VM" or I'll violate the space/time continuum and cause a black hole

If anyone knows where I can find a comparison chart between Fusion and Fusion Pro would be great as well

    Thank you!

VMware Fusion while having only the features of VMware Workstation however it is much more then what VMware Player is and can create and modify Virtual Machines.

The comparison to VMware Fusion vs VMware Fusion Professional is right in front of you to the VMware Fusion product page!

  • Cannot use local shared with replica storage of SSD

So I had my environment from view for a while and everything works fine, but I have a question on how discovers works with the local replica SSD disks.  I read in the forums and in the document architecture and design if you use a local SSD to store your replicas (that will give you a performance gain), you cannot have your host in a cluster, thus renouncing HA and all the features that come with in a cluster of ESXi.

However, I meet me a further restriction that I couldn't find any mention of in the forums or documentation, namely that you cannot store the clones in a shared storage if you have a replica on the local disk.  Whenever I got to the stage of commissioning and selected a FC LUN shared as the storage for the linked clones container, the pool would tell me that there not available and there no validation.  However, if I create a LUN that ONLY the host which I use to store the replica on the SSD has access to, then the commissioning is fine.  So my question is this: Why can't place clones related on the shared with a local replica disk storage?  I understand that I will not be able to use the features of the HA, but I would rather just a LUN shared for all clones related to the ease of administration (instead of having to create one for each host).  If someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong or explain to me why this is the case, it would be great.

OK, I found the documentation indicating that "If clone related data warehouses are shared, the replica data store must be shared. Replicas can reside on a store of local data only if you configure clones all connected on warehouses of local data on the same ESX host. "Who is on page 14 of the document storage considerations see here: http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/view_storage_considerations.pdf. However, it does not explain why this is, he said only that it is so.

So as a result of this requirement, it is logical that linked clones on a present at a single ESXi host LUN would support, but without link clones on a LUN present at multiple ESXi hosts.

  • VMWare Fusion pro 7.1.1 - blocking running yosemite as a guest problem

    Hi all

I have a Yosemite pro running (mid-2014, 16 GB of ram video card w / discrete) MacBook. When I run a guest of yosemite, the video is very lag, and the virtual machine is generally not very handy.

The guest has 4 cores, 4 GB ram, 256 MB of video memory (using the discrete card for 3D applications only) and implements the latest vmware tools 'material' and vmware. I disabled the sound and bluetooth.

Is that what I can do to improve performance?

    Thank you!

Yes.  Please check this blog for the manual workaround and a program called "BeamOff" that will provide relief without manual effort.  https://derflounder.WordPress.com/2014/12/13/improving-Yosemite-VM-performance-in-VMware-Fusion/

I am not the author, and cannot vouch for the port version, however.  I downloaded the source, reviewed and updated on mine, just to be sure.  But it will fix the problem that you are experiencing.  (You need to run the application in the prompt, if it isn't obvious!)

  • VMWare Fusion Pro can see the ESXi data store but not VM on it.

    Hi all

I have a MacPro 5.1 I am under ESXi on via a USB key. The MacPro has 4 SATA drives configured as stores of data with VM on some of them.

When connecting to the ESX host through the 'connect to server' Fusion Pro I can see data banks but not the virtual machine.

The virtual machine can be seen on the ESX host, when connecting via SFTP.

    Any ideas?

& I thought about it... I need to register for the virtual machine
