Cannot find appearance and personalization in Windows 7 Edition basic family

I can't find appearance and personalization in Windows 7 Home Basic Edition. I tried to look as well. On the internet, it seems that this option should be available in the control panel but I can't find in mine. I would like to change the color and theme.

See the response from Steve Winograd here.

This is a fairly old machine and I don't know if you can order the original disc of recovery for her.
You can check it out on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

  • appearance and personalization does not

Hi can you help me please. The appearance and personalization in vista Enterprise edition section appears to be dead. Have tried to approach through different paths, but all died. As I ran a few registry cleaners, I think I might have accidentally interfered with that. Now I can't open this section by clicking on it. I don't want to reinstall vista as everything else seems to work very well. Is there anyway that I can restore this part only? Tried restoring the system goes back as far as possible but the problem has not resolved, as it has been here for a few months now. Thank you

Since you mentioned using "registry cleaners" (which should not be used), its probably the result of the use of those who damaged the operating system.  You might as well prepare to back up your files and perform a clean install of Vista. Carey Frisch

How to find the Folder Options menu

When I used Windows Vista for the first time that I was a bit surprised to see that the Tools menu is not found in Windows Explorer. So where is she?

It seems it was hidden from the default interface of Windows Explorer. To access, pressALT from your keyboard, and the old menu will appear.

Another quick way to find the Folder Options is to use the search box in the start menu. Just type in 'folder options' in the field of research and the first result should be the shortcutOptions files .

Click on the computer, or press the enter key to open it. Go to the view tab and make any desired adjustments.

If you want to use the new control panel, you must go to the appearance and personalization and then click onFolder Options.

If you are using the Classic view , you will see the list of items starting with the letter 'f'

  • Try to install Windows XP but don't get a message: Setup cannot find a previous version of Windows installed on the computer.

    Install XP instead of Vista

I tried to install XP in my laptop ASUS PRO31jr which currently has Vista Home Premium installed.  I updated the BIOS first and changed the boot on CD/DVD order.  Disk load bunch of drivers, then when it gets to the installation, said he cannot find a previous version of windows installed on the computer and calls for an XP Home edition (full version), or a CD of XP Professional (full version).  The CD I have is XP Professional Academic Edition version 2002.  RHE booklet supplied with the disc seems to indicate that this is the full version, and I successfully used to clean install on XP.  Is the drive of my problem?  I would appreciate a difinative answer if anybody out there knows for sure.  Goodwich.

If the message "Setup cannot find a previous version of Windows installed on the computer", you have an upgrade version that requires Windows XP Home Edition installation.

  • Cannot change programs and features "Let Windows manage"

I changed my programs and features for best performance when it has been set to let windows manage now I can't change it back keeps saying change admin and I am the administrator how to change it back

    Hi hadonly1son,

    1. What is the full and exact error message?

    2. tell the settings of Visual effects for the appearance and performance of Windows.

    3. you remember to make changes to the computer, after which the issue started?

    Try the following:

    Step 1:

Temporarily disable the antivirus on the computer running software and check if you are able to change the settings:

    Disable the anti-virus software

    Caution:
Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Step 2:

Try to create the new user account and check if it helps. If the new user account works, then try to fix the damaged user profile.

    Create a user account

    I hope this helps.

  • Unable to find files and folders using Windows Search

Original title: Windows search returns no results, but only for a single user - another user works very well - Windows 7

All of a sudden windows search of files and folders (from windows Explorer) do not return results - even if I'm looking for in a folder with a file name that I know is in there.  However, it works for the other user on this system.

The things that I tried or looked at who did not work:

    • Configuration of the default folder options.
    • reconstruction of the index
    • sfc/scannow - said "windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to solve some of them.  I have the CBS. If necessary log file.
    • research done that windows has been archived 'Tour of the windows features turn on or off.
    • Ran the registry of Windows Search - he said that he fixed two things (cannot tell you what they were now), but still, it does not solve the problem. When I run it says once again that there are no errors.
    • I checked this registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced\\\ and key Start_SearchFiles - which was set to 2, the default
    • Under Customize Start Menu - search with public folders is selected under search for other files and libraries.

It still does not work.  The search box in the start menu seems to work, but not for anything I get.

    Frustrated!

Where can I find my registration key for Vista Edition basic family

'Product Key' is probably what you mean.

You buy it in a store by itself (Windows Vista Home Basic which is) or is it installed on your computer?

If you bought autonomous - it is the case of DVD that the DVD is in.  If it came pre-installed, it is on a sticker pasted on your machine.
