cannot install update on win xp home system stops responding

I had a system crash. tried to reinstall Windows XP home. Get up to a point where the registry is locked and can not do updates. It locks 1 IE to where I can't open it. then the automatic update is an update which blocks the installation or registry where I can not get the updates installed. SP3 not settle.  Cannot run fixit. can not run the secedit command. running reinstall 9 times. 3 weeks (180 + hrs) to try to get the system up.

Hi Timmus,

You receive an error message when IE or Windows crash updates? Does IE crash on all other sites? Follow the steps in this document to check see if there recorded events that correspond with the accidents.

Also, try the following steps to see if you can install the update in safe mode with networking:

  1. Restart your computer and immediately press the F8 key until you get to the Recovery Console.
  2. Select Mode safe mode with networking
  3. Install updates

I'm sure you have a number of installed updates then I suggest to install in small batches instead of trying to install them all one at a time.

Let us know if that helps.

I have many facilities update unresolved that failed, of which several have been labeled 'critical' is it possible that these updates were for windows 7 instead of my program which is the version of microsoft windows vista 6.0 over a few more numbers after that.

Try to download and install manually by download on your desktop and install them one by one. Insert the number of KB to get updates on the right and choose the one corresponding to your version of Vista: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/default.aspx.  It is not possible for Windows Update in order to send updates for the wrong operating system (but I can't go further and say that it is impossible, even if I never heard talk of such a thing).

If this does not work, try a boot minimum http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 and then make the facilities.  If the problem goes away then it's just a matter of tracking down the culprit at the origin of the problem.   Follow the procedures described in the article.  Once found, remove, delete, disable or uninstall.  Once remember to put Vista in normal status, as described in the procedures. If the problem occurs in clean mode then just restore the system to normal and reboot - this solution will not work.

  • Cannot install Update 938371 on Vista Home Premium because of the error 800b0100.

Using Windows Update and stand-alone update, I can't install the Update 938371 (which I believe is a sine qua non for SP1) on my Vista Home Premium laptop.

When I try to do, I get an error 800b0100. I tried the system preparation tool, I even tried the fix XP (for re-registration of dll), but doesn't seem to work.

My laptop is an Asus G2 with 3 GB of RAM and an Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 processor (both at 2.5 GHz), if this can help.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

    Search for malware:

Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:

Remove anything they find.  Reboot when necessary.  (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)

Search online with eSet Online Scanner.

The less you have to run all the time, most things you want to run will perform:

Use Autoruns to understand this all starts when your computer's / when you log in.  Look for whatever it is you do not know using Google (or ask here.)  You can hopefully figure out if there are things from when your computer does (or connect) you don't not need and then configure them (through their own built-in mechanisms is the preferred method) so they do not - start using your resources without reason.

You can download and use Process Explorer to see exactly what is taking your time processor/CPU and memory.  This can help you to identify applications that you might want to consider alternatives for and get rid of all together.

You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
-Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...

    1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
    2. click on the System Restore tab.
    3. highlight one of your readers (or C: If you only) and click on the button "settings".
4 change the percentage of disk space you want to allow... I suggest moving the slider until you have about 1 GB (1024 MB or close to that...)
    5. click on OK. Then click OK again.

You can control the amount of space used may or may not temporary Internet files...

Empty the temporary Internet files and reduce the size, that it stores a size between 64 MB and 128 MB...

-Open a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    -Select TOOLS - Internet Options.
-On the general tab in the section 'Temporary Internet files', follow these steps:
-Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
-Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use: ' something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (There may be many more now.)
    -Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).
-Once it's done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer.

    Hello, gsfl Jg,

Open Windows Update and check if KB2686509 and KB2676562 are or are not installed.

When you tried to install the update, you would have received an error code.  Please return this zip code which lies in Windows Update.

Why this update is offered again several times?

Windows updates are revived until the update is installed on your computer. If this update is already, perhaps an installation failure has occurred. Check log files to install KB for the error codes. For example, the log file of installation KB for this security update would probably "C:\Windows\ KB2686509.log"

If you receive the "0x8007F0F4" error when you try to install this security update, follow these steps:

      Keyboard1.dll.\Layoutfiles\keyboard2.dll C:\Windows\System\Kbda1.dll

Note In this example, the first entry is just a file name. The second entry includes a relative path with the name of the file. The third category includes a full path of the file.
