Cannot map a network drive

I have a Win XP pc which had a network map to a server on another site. Yesterday, it lost the connection and when I try to remap the network drive for the same folder I get an error message that says: the mapped network drive could not be created because the following error occurred the handle is not valid. Someone has seen this and is there a solution? Thank you for your help.

  • Windows 7 Home Premium cannot map NAS / network storage drives

Hi, I'm currently on a PC Windows 7 Home Premium and I have two 2 NAS drives.

I am running a Buffalo Linkstation (old version) and a new Iomega Home Media Network Hard drive.

Initially I thought it was just my Linkstation from Buffalo who is older and has had no updates of the firmware that cannot be mapped as a network drive. But I just got my new Iomega hard drive today and installed the latest firmware and software. The Iomega software detects the drive and all of its shared folders but the problem is that I can not map any shared folders as a network drive, making it useless on my Windows 7 computer.

I can access both NAS drives on my windows xp pro machine very well.

I got off the phone with Iomega technical support and they said that it is a well known problem with Windows 7 Home Premium and readers of Samba. Is there someone out there who can give me a solution? I already tried the fix LMCOMPATIBILITYLEVEL on other forums I found by changing the values 1 or 2 - but still no luck.

It gives me an error of network even when I try to connect to the ip address of the NAS, however - it appears on my network but I can not access or map!

I really want to get my readers network running on windows 7 Home Edition premium without having to upgrade to other users are still having problems, I read. It's a little pathetic I can't even map a network drive on my pc.

I had exactly the same problem with my drive hard Lacie network. If your drive contained donkey type of media, music, or video, Win 7 use the reader as a "Windows Media Connect" device, opening the disk in Media Player, showing only media files...

This prevents access to all ot0her of the player records.

However, I found that it is possible to add the drive as a network drive, if you know the name of the root folder.

In my case, it's "openshare", so when you enter the path to network drive, I use \\192.168.xxx.xxx\openshare, and it allows me to access the drive...

Why Microsoft chose to make this type of access to the files of so difficult to get simple network, just blows my mind, knowing that WinXP has it done easily...

I hope you were able to understand my English, and that this could be useful.

    Kind regards

  • Error 0x800704b3 when you try to map a network drive

    Hello

I have the following error message when you try to map a network drive in my home network:
"\\iomegahmd cannot be reached" and the error code is 0x800704b3.

I already looked in the services, and my strong assumption is that the problem is that 'TCP/IP NetBIOS Assistance' service is not statrted and it is disabled. When I try to start it, there is an error message:
"The system could not find the specified path".

I also checked the dependency of the 'TCP/IP NetBIOS Assistance' service components:
    Auxiliary function for Winsock driver
    NetBT
    TCP/IP protocol driver
    NetIO-legacy-TDI Support driver
in the Device Manager is running, but they are all running. Startup is set to 'system '.

Under the properties of version 4 of TCP/IP Internet of the wireless device, under Advanced-> WINS I ve put enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, but it helps t is not either.

What else could try, so that I can map network drives?

I should also mention, that the problem persists for a few weeks. Before, it was working properly. In addition, on other computers on my network I don't have access to the same network drive problem.

    Thanks in advance,
    Tithe

    > I should also mention that the problem persists for a few weeks. Before, it was working properly.

It of difficult to say what's wrong in your case. My first idea is: put installation beginning point of time before this error appeared.

I recommend also to disable all security software and check if you experience the same problem.
If you still experience the problem, then follow the link to fix the damaged user profile.

  • System error 50 occurred... during the mapping of network drive with a batch file.

I have several computers on a home network with WiFi and Ethernet access to a NAS network.

Using a batch file, card readers network at startup, etc.
A for (I have 4) computers fails to map the network drive.  All other computers work fine with the same batch file.
Specifically, when the following command has been executed in the batch file:
    NET use * /d /y
    The computer responded with:
    50 system error has occurred.
    The request is not supported.
When the batch continues running and map network drives, each command mapping «net use z:...» ' produces the following:
    53 system error has occurred.
The network path was not found.
This particular computer in question is a laptop and all other software and functionality seems to work very well.
It looks like a problem with Windows, but after some research, I found that many variations in Windows can produce the same above error codes.
    Help!

    Hi Roger,

Have you been able to solve the problem?

System Error Codes are very broad. Each of them can occur in one of hundreds of locations in the system. As a result, the descriptions of these codes cannot be very precise.

Please visit the following link to learn more about the system error 50:

  • A computer on Win7 Home premium able to map a network drive on a computer in a different domain?

A computer on Win7 Home premium able to map a network drive on a computer in a different domain? Or is this a limitation of the home premium? In addition, the computer I have tries to map running Win7 ultimate.

If I am not mistaken (I reserve that right!), Home Premium cannot be joined to a domain and the OP also indicates to gain access to resources in a different domain. Thus, according to trusts in place or VPN connections, it could be a challenge. Where did the idea of using something easy of access/sharing of resources.

Otherwise, you need to set the resources to allow access of the anon/no authenticated user.

Windows 7 64 - bit, updated.  I want to connect to our office (Small Business Server 2003) through the VPN server.  I can connect via VPN, but lately, when I try to map the network drive, I wonder of logon credentials.  A month earlier and earlier, I could log on without any problem.  No change in the hardware or software except Windows Update.  Office of the administrator COMPUTER says it's a problem of Port 47.  I went so far as to turn off the Windows Firewall, incoming & outgoing.  No relief.  I can connect using Windows XP without there be invited for the opening of the session.

  • AC2400 (E8350) router cannot map USB hard drive in Windows network.

    Hi all

I recently bought the Linksys AC2400 wireless router and a USB 3 Western Digital Elements 2 TB hard drive.

The network works perfectly, except for the USB hard drive. The firmware on the router recognizes it okay, but in the windows network, I can't access your hard drive. I simply get a path not found error.

    I tried:

Y access inside or outside Windows Homegroup.

-Re - formatting in the linksys configuration (Fat32... There is room for improvement)

-Test the USB drive directly into the PC, works perfectly and formatted in NTFS.

    -Turn off all firewalls.

-Tried the port USB2/Esata instead of the USB3

Also, from another computer on the network, I get the same error.

Pre-installed on the hard drive was a mediaserver program called Twonky. He wants autoconnet to my router using port 9000, but the web interface I get then does nothing. Also when I enable the mediaserver configuration linksys website, he created a mediaserver in windows network, wth pilots twonk. But I can't change that.

When I test the ftp server, I had access to the hard drive without any problem. This suggests that it is not a compatibility problem.

I could also map the Windows ftp server, but that does not work on my mediaplayer, I need for this network interface.

Does anyone have an idea of what I'm doing wrong and why windows is unable to connect to your hard drive?

I didn't install the new version of firmware, because the changelog mentions nothing about the functions of the USB or storage.

I've added a few photos with the settings, it could be useful.

THX in advance for any response.

    Map of old-school reader:

    1. Open the file Explorer or (right click computer and 'Map network drive')
    2. Click "Map network drive" in the top menu
    3. Choose the drive letter
    4. Enter "\\192.168.1.1\" or "\\192.168.1.1\your-share-name".
    5. Add identifying information if access to the secure folder is enabled "Admin" and password
  • Cannot access the network drive after trying to change the shared folder.

I had a 80 GB drive connected to my E3000 for a few years and it worked without problem. I recently turned to a 250 GB Maxtor One Touch drive. When I plugged it, the router automatically creates a shared folder. I was able to connect to this folder without problem, but I wanted to share the whole score. When I made this adjustment and tried to save the settings, I temporarily lost access to the router. He gave me the standard page cannot be error message appears. When I got access changes seem to be made. When I try to access the drive of my laptop I get this error message, "the mapped network drive could be created", "the name specified network is no longer available". I rebooted and power rolled my router as well reconnected the drive.

I think that since you have replaced your hard drive, old settings are configured may still on the hard drive of old. You can change the users and group so that it syncs with the new hard drive or start from scratch (reformat the hard drive).

  • Connect to ReadyNAS / map a network drive

Hi, I'm trying to map my drive nas on windows 7 but I can't do it. I can access the NAS via the admin on Google Chrome page, but it's very slow and tempremental transfer and manage files in this way. This is why I want to access the files through the Explorer.

When I try to map it to drive Z:, I get IP address //NAS and it comes up with the error "windows cannot access //NAS IP.

When I enter the IP https://NAS it seems to connect, however calls for my credentials. I get my username and password I use to connect through Chrome, but it asks me again the username and password (no error message). I hit ok 2 - 3 times and then an error message indicates that the card could not be created because a "device attached to the system does not work.

I uninstalled and reinstalled file sharing and printers for windows however this has made no difference.

    Please help me

    Hi Odd_Job_007

In addition to Brian's suggestions, you can also try to enter in what follows in the CMD window

    NET use * / delete

NET use Z:\ \\NASIP / user: admin password

Where NASIP is the IP address of the NAS, and password is the password of admin for the NAS.

Management of the Affairs of slashes, so be careful there.

What NAS model you have (and what firmware it works)?

  • I can map a network drive by using the appropriate credentials, but access is denied (by default local account for navigation)

I have a laptop running XP SP3.  If I connect locally to the laptop and you try to map a network from a server drive on my network, it invites me for a username and password that I offer and the player must then be mapped.  The problem is that when I click on the new player, I get an access denied message.  It tries to connect to the share with my local account that has no access privileges.  Previously it tempt me a username and password, but apparently, I changed some security settings and it doesn't do this more.

The same thing happens if I use the command net use.  I can map the drive by providing an appropriate user name and password, but I can't browse it in windows Explorer.  I really want to understand the context that controls if you get a prompt when you access a resource on the network.  I think that it is related to the setting of security strategy for network access: sharing and security for local accounts.  I played a bit with it, but in vain.

I realize that I could probably add an account with the same username / password for my local account on the server and give access to my file shared.  I don't want to do that.  I have several users who share the laptop and access the local account access (I realize this is not ideal, but it is inevitable at the present time).  I don't want to have access to this network share.

Can someone help me get my login prompt?  I searched on google for the last 2 days trying all kinds of suggested solutions, but I couldn't find one that works.

Too bad... I was hoping that was the problem.  But at least it now asks you a name of user and password :-)

Apart from that, you could look to make sure that NetBios over TCP (NetBT) is enabled on the client.  Deactivation of this force a direct hosting of SMB which sometimes has problems.

"Hosting of SMB over TCP/IP direct".

Your latest comments seem to point to a followed initial connection or bad connect more or maybe you is not authenticated as expected.  A few quick tests, I did showed that if you connect using TCP/IP address instead of the computer name and specify everything, including the scope of user name online net "use", it reduces the network traffic needed to establish a connection.  As a test on a client, from a command prompt, try a syntax such as:

    NET use * \\192.168.1.10\share /user:192.168.1.10\username password

Where "192.168.1.10" is the IP address of the server, 'share' is the name of the action that you want to connect to and "username" is the local user on the server to which you authenticate you.  If you use domain identification information, substutite for "192.168.1.10" domain name in the "/ user:" part.  If you log to a local account server from a name of user and password graphic prompt, try to including the name of the computer and the user name in the user name as in Nom_ordinateur\Nom_utilisateur area.  If it does not, unless there is really something wrong with the access permissions, I'm out of ideas.

    Good luck
