Cannot open mp3 file in Media Player

I try to open the following text in Windows Media Player 12 on Windows 7 x 64 machine:

http://streamingmedia.stlcc.edu/mcmedia/veterans%20Project/2012_IRT_Spring_MP3/Baule_Dennis_Lee.MP3

The result is the following: Windows Media Player cannot connect to the server. The name of the server are may not be incorrect, the server may not be available, or your proxy settings are may not be incorrect.

I tried the following:

Check the settings under Tools/network.  Has crossed all protocols, same answer.  Also check the Streaming proxy settings there.

Profile\application data\microsoft folder renamed / Windows Media

Microsoft Fix - it

Remove and readd function

Windows media player is configured as default player

running regsvr32 wmnetmgr.dll for all copies on my machine

This occurs using both IE 8 and directly into media player.

I can download the mp3 and play very well.  The link works with quicktime as the player through IE8.

This is the case on other computers Windows 7 and also tried on XP, same result.

After a thorough search, I ran out of trying new things.  Any ideas?

Hello

  1. Is it specifically only this one link that what happens on or multiple?
  2. Is it only for items specifically on this site?
He started only recently, or there has been an ongoing, if yes problem?

If the latter, I suggest you perform the system restore.

The system restore.

I also suggest you try to reset Internet Explorer default and check the status of the issue.
Reset the settings of Internet Explorer 9.
Warning: Reset the Internet Explorer settings can reset security settings or privacy settings that you have added to the list of Trusted Sites. Reset the Internet Explorer settings can also reset parental control settings. We recommend that you note these sites before you use the reset Internet Explorer settings.

I hope this helps!

    How to turn off UAC?
Click Start > Control Panel > accounts user and family safety > user accounts > select your username > then click on change user account control settings and uncheck the box. Restart your computer for this setting to take effect.

Windows media player does not open... I tried the restore without success. Something is wrong with the path I think.

Do these two steps [they are the closest thing possible to uninstall then reinstall WMP & will actually provide a new installation of WMP]

1 unload WMP *-control panel, programs and features, [left] turn on or off has Windows, multimedia features, clear box Windows Media Player, Yes, OK, restart the PC.

2 reload WMP - Panel, programs and features, [left] turn Windows features on or off, multimedia features, set the Windows Media Player box, Yes, OK, restart the PC.

    * I guess that WMP has previously been loaded.  WMP is a component of all editions of Windows 7 [but not for 'N' & 'KN' Versions] and is loaded by default for several editions of Windows 7 [it is not loaded by default for Pro or Ultimate Editions].

  • Error "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or does not support the codec used to compress the file' when try to play wav or midi files.

Original title: WMP "can't play wav or midi.

Using WMP 11 on Windows XP SP3.

Windows Media Player has somehow forgotten how to play wav or midi files. Doubleclicking either of these file types give an error "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or does not support the codec used to compress the file. " There is a button 'Close' and 'Web Help' which still informs me, "you met the C00D1199 error message... ". ». Following the advice given nothing less than useful.

I can easily play these files with RealPlayer or VLC so I don't think it's a driver problem, and it wasn't a corruption right after installing the other players. WMP seems to work OK when playing music or AVI. And there is no harm to hear a sound (wav or midi) in Windows for various system events. Have already uninstalled/reinstalled WMP without result.

    Thanks for your reply.

I have since determeined the problem comes from an updated codec package I installed a few weeks ago. These codecs were from Shark007 which I believe is a Microsoft MVP. Use the codecs from this site for a number of years without any problems so I did not initially suspect it was the source of the problem. I uninstalled the codec pack and installed K-light package and everything seems to be Ok now. Now, I'll be in contact with the members of this forum.
