Cannot print-"on paper" message but paper IS in the printer

With the help of HP pavilion/Vista connected to HP Laserjet 6 L.  It is an old printer and for some time I can print only by feeding one page at a time, that's OK.  However, for a few days could not print and I get the message that the printer to "out of paper" when there is a ready to go in the Manger sheet.  The book seems to be inserted and the printer connections are fine.  Any help gratefully accepted!

PS. different "best" for the printing software have concocted over time--now upwards of "copy 7" and this is the one I've used so far. ""  Now, all copies are 'offline' with the exception of "copy 5," who is ready to operate but "on paper."

Try restarting the computer with the printer and a sheet of paper on the shelf.
