cannot reformat the drive which has the OS on it

I have full vista on my comp. with several hard drives. Hard disks are dynamic disks, but I need to change back to the source, so I can use both vista and xp. I know I need to reformat them to convert back, but when I try, it tells me that I can't reformat the disk to the operating system on it. I tried with my installation disk and disk management. What should I do? I really need to use the two OS because of some programs that I use. Cannot afford to upgrade compatible vista on all programs! Help!

Hello

Follow the suggestions and see if it helps.

a.Back to the top of all volumes on the disk you want to convert from dynamic to the base.

b.Open (Local) computer management.

c.In the console tree, click computer (Local) management, click storage, and then click Disk Management.

d.Right - click on each volume on the dynamic disk you want to convert to basic and then click on Delete Volume for each volume on the disk.

e all volumes on the disk have been deleted, right-click the disk and then click on convert to basic disk.

  • Can the data on a disk external drive which has been recorded on an XP32 be transferred on a WINDOWS7 64 bit without any damage to the computer or the data?

I saved data on my external HDD in TViX from my old computer, which is 32 bit and XP Sp3. Now, I would like to transfer these data to my new computer, which is Windows7 64 bit. It's not clear to me if this is possible, or what can be done.

    Hello

What type of data you have stored on external hard drive Tvix?

Usually, you should be able to easily move data from Windows XP to Windows 7 computer via external data. This should not affect the data on external hard drive if the condition of the drive is good.

  • How to format a drive which has Windows on it?

I accidentally installed Windows on two disks and I want to delete one of them, but he says that it cant format that pushes. Can you help me?

    EDIT:
Sorry, I realized that I can not format the hard drive. Is it possible to change the main hard drive?

Plug the HD from anywhere that the computer power and the controller to start. Start the machine. As it starts, go into the setup of the BIOS in the usual way. Set the drive connected as assigned from which the system boots. Note that the other drive is not connected. Turn it back on.

If the system does not start, insert the Windows Vista DVD into the drive. Make sure that the DVD player is set forst in the boot order. Restart the computer. Use the facilities on the DVD of startup repair. This process will result in changes to the bootstrapper. Restart the system.

    It should start.

After confirm the operation, stop the system and connect the other drive, restart. Now you should be able to delete what you want the HD with the unwanted system.

    PS

There is only one method. It can be done by other means.

  • Cannot open the hard file. One of the disks in this virtual machine is already in use by a virtual machine or a snapshot

    Hi all

Tried my level best to solve, but still the same problem persists. . Lck tried but as soon close VMware workstation, it disappears. This problem starts when yesterday instead of powering down, suspended. The next resume when it gives captioned error. Tried creating new virtual machine using an existing vmdk file but my mainly all the data disappeared. Now I want to resume the suspended state. Kindly help on the same. Thank you

OK, we will first focus on the first virtual disk (System) on the D: drive which has enogh of disk space to create a clone.

The "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmdk" dated from 19/07/13 is probably exactly what we need, and if it has approximately the same size of file than current/changing, then you can replace the one changed with it. Once restored, proceed as follows (with VMware Workstation closed):

    from the command line run:

    cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation"
    cd /d D:\win2k3
    md Clone
    C:vmware-vdiskmanager.exe -r "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition-000002.vmdk" -t 0 "Clone\Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmdk"

Once the cloning done so, create a subfolder "Backup" and move all over existing files (as a backup). Copy the .vmx file and .vmxf the subdirectory "Backup" in the D:\win2k3 folder, then do the same with the file hard cloned since the 'Clone' subdirectory, so that you end up with the following files:

    Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmx

    Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmxf

    Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmdk

Before you can try to start the virtual machine, you must edit the .vmx file and replace

    scsi0:0. FileName = "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition - 000002.vmdk"

    with

    scsi0:0. FileName = "Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition.vmdk"

Please do the above and report. If you have any questions please ask.

  • Partitioning of a seconed disc, which has no unallocted of sections?

I would like to partition a second hard drive I have in my Pc at home, unfortunately when I installed the drive I didn't leave any unallocated section. I copied all the data from the disc to a 3rd drive. Is there a way to divide this drive. Windows XP

Let's see if I can rephrase your situation.

You have a second hard drive which has used to have data on this topic.
You have copied all the data on this disc in one safe place (another player).
Now, you want to create several partitions (at least more than one) on this drive.

Assuming that the foregoing summarizes exactly your situation

    1. Start disk management (start > run > diskmgmt.msc > OK)
    2. Right-click on a partition on the disk that you want to change (be very sure that you do not select the system drive, which is probably C)
    3. Select Delete partition.
    4. Click your way to the warning messages.
    5. If there is more than one partition on the disk, repeat for each partition
    6. After the existing partitions has (have) been deleted, all of the disk will show as "unallocated".
    7. Create new partitions as you wish to the unallocated space. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309000 for directions.  When you create each partition, format it.  I suggest that you use NTFS, unless you have a specific reason not to do so.
  • Cannot make a backup of the computer to reformat the external hard drive (error 0 x 80780029)

    Hello!
I recently had to reformat (disk error problem) backup my drive (USB) hard external on which I did a complete PC. After reformatting the drive, I tried to make a new PC full to the top on it wihtout success because the old cliché could not be read ("reading of the volume shadow copy on source has no" error code 0 x 80780029), apparently, the backup and Restore Center kept in memory the old backup I did on my HDD reformat and seeks to go further. How can I get around this to remove the trace of old shadow copy and/or the complete PC Backup?

Thank you very much in advance for your help

    Richard

    Hi Kevin!

No indication of you... Should you the CBS.log?
Still, I have the problem with the backup center and looking for an old backup restore complete PC that no longer exists (reformat the drive) and therefore prevent me to make a new complete PC on the USB disk reformat bacup.

    Thanks again for your help!

  • How do I take a VISTA system which has a drive with a C and D partition and combne in C only a partition with the storage of which was C and D?

How do I take a VISTA system which has a drive with a C and D partition and combne in C only a partition with the storage of which was C and D?

    Hello

Make sure that D: is not the partition recovery including the manufacturer put there to make the recovery disks from and eventually to return your computer to how you bought

You cannot combine C: and D: and their data using the Vista Disk Manager

with Vista, you will need to save the data on D: - D: delete - and then extend C: into the now unallocated space where D: was to do a 1 partition 2

    read the tutorial below

How to remove and extend a Partition with Vista disk management

Windows cannot load the driver for this hardware device. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) has .dvd rw ad - 7530 ata

    Hello

Code 39 means that the driver is corrupted or missing.

Please make all below even if you have done some before as it is often the set of operations which solves
    the question.

    Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

    --------------------------------------------------------------

Also check with your system manufacturer to see if there are any updated drivers for your DVD. Or even if it
are you can reinstall the 'old'. Many use Windows default drivers however some special aura
ones. Also check the website of the manufacturer of the car.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

  • How to import bookmarks into Firefox from another disk hard which has Firefox installed on it but is no longer the primary drive?

I was running firefox on your desktop. The hard drive became unusable as the main drive, either because of a software installation which has left the operating system unstable or malicious software or both. The hard drive has been cleaned of malware, but has been replaced by a new hard disk that has a new installation of firefox. Operating has been and is Windows XP. The old hard disk which is now F:\ is still in the computer. There are lots and lots of bookmarks on F; \... Firefox I need to import the Firefox on C:\. In my opinion, these are the .json files. Can I copy and paste or import bookmarks?

    Two points:

Suggestions 1. see Bruce Hagen, but it is highly unlikely that you can get everything back. When you perform a system recovery, you lose everything that was on the disc.

    2. it is late to tell you this, but like you apparenly had no backup on external media, you're playing with fire. For the future, you can read this article I wrote: "how to return your computer regularly upward and reliable" to http://www.computorcompanion.com/LPMArticle.asp?ID=314

You download and make the disks to another computer.

Uhm... I think the issue here is a misunderstanding of what you watch.

If you want to access your files from the old hard drive - you need to look in the right place.  If the old system was "Windows 7", "Documents and Settings" is the * wrong * place to look and "Users" would be the place to go.

You * will * take ownership and change permissions on ALL (you want to propagate to all subfolders/files when do - to save time) in order to get them properly.

New-->: Windows Vista/7 would have your files located in the directory 'Users' of the root of the drive - and then under your username.

    • \USERS\\Desktop\
    • \USERS\\Downloads\
    • \USERS\\Favorites\
    • \USERS\\Documents\
    • \USERS\\Music\
    • \USERS\\Pictures\
    • \USERS\\Videos\

    ... etc...

Documents and settings to WIndows Vista/Windows 7 is a symbolic link and would lead to what you see if you tried to use it.
