Cannot run anything as an administrator

I just installed the long list of updates using Microsoft Update (14/10/2010) and now I can't run anything as an administrator. If I try, get an error message saying "Windows cannoe access to the specified device, path, or file. You can not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. I am on an administrator account and have always been able to do. I'm using Windows Vista 32-bit. Please help - I must have admin control!

I rebooted and it seemed to clear up. (Phew!)

    Help.

    Hello

You will not be able to repair your damaged without having to reinstall system, but you can try this: Manager tasks on the Applications tab, click "new task". Click Browse and navigate to C:\Windows\System32. Search the cmd.exe file and right click, choose 'Run as administrator'. Click on continue in the UAC prompt. From the command line, run "sfc/scannow" for the system to validate all system files, it should replace missing or damaged files. When you are done, reboot the system by running "shutdown - r" from the command line.

  • Cannot access anything whatsoever.

I have a pop internet security window that analysis because I don't know what and I cannot access anything in the administrator account on my computer. Also the sercurity in Panel tab won't let me not activate at all. I get an error message in the lower right pane, saying: he can not access to this. And I say mostly everything.  I'm not computer, big words and whatnot may not make sense to me. Also, on my administrator account real, I have a .exe program named (6vx9p4gkqs.exe) If this is useful, who keeps constantly ask my permissions, where of course I continued to decline. It flashes permanently on the lower tab below. I don't know what other information you might need in order to help me, but please ask and I will try my best to post it to the top. Help, please.

response of ahaap is based on the assumption that you have Avast * and * another product of security installed, given that you have posted on the MSE forum. You do not specify which tool you used by Microsoft to analyze, but I guess that's the Microsoft - http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx - Security Scanner that does not install. So this isn't your problem.

I'll pass your question to the Windows box of responses under the heading security, privacy, and user accounts.

You have a true bootable XP installation CD (it is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

What you see you don't think you need to see?

What do not you think that you should see?

Fill in the blank: my system worked well until: _.

If you just want to start by running chkdsk /r on your hard drive (a good idea), I would follow the instructions below:

Use the XP Recovery Console to check the file system on your HARD drive and fix all the problems.

Boot into the Recovery Console Windows using an XP bootable installation CD.

If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget.

This is not the same as recovery disks that may have come to a store to purchase the system.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

    xp_rec_con. ISO

    Download the ISO from here:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD:

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

    Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the command prompt.

Start by checking the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.

In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.

Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem.  It won't hurt anything to run it.

Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:

    CHKDSK C: /r

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.  It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck".  Be patient.  If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.

Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.

You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

Do, or do not. There is no test.

  • Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process

My computer was working fine until last night. Now when I connect I get a blue screen saying that the computer shuts down to prevent further damage from happening. I tried to restore to an earlier point in time when my computer was working but then I get the error:

The OS disk (C :) has errors.
Windows has detected corruption on OS (C :) file system. You should check the drive for errors before you can restore it.

So I'm going to run the chkdsk utility, and I get the error:
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. You want to schedule this volume to check the next time the system restarts.

I'm confused because the chkdsk unility usually works, and I have no idea why she is being used by another process. I am clearly not very good with computers. I tend to do a lot of spywear and adwear on my computer. I have Spyware Doctor that removes any infection.

Help, please. I've tried everything. Thank you.

    Asha22,
It appears from your last post why chkdsk did not run on reboot and you gave an incorrect message is that you did not a space between the volume and the f number.  The correct syntax is:

    CHKDSK c: /f

You can also run the utility disc in this way:
    http://windowshelp.Microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/help/bc1393cf-9f9c-79C7-0f91-9337c2c41f811033.mspx

    1. open the computer by clicking the Start button, click computer.

    2. right click on the hard drive you want to check, and then click Properties.

    3. click on the Tools tab and then, under check for errors, click check now.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

To automatically repair problems with files and folders that the scan detects, select automatically fix file system errors. Otherwise, the disk check will simply report a problem, but not to fix them.

To perform a full disk check, select search and attempt to recover bad sectors. This scan is trying to find and repair physical errors on the hard drive itself, and it may take much longer to complete.

To check for errors file and the physical errors, select both automatically fix errors in file system and search for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

    4. click on start.

Depending on the size of your hard disk, this may take several minutes. For best results, do not use your computer for any other tasks while it checks errors.

Note: If you select automatically errors in file system of fix for a disc that is used (for example, the partition that contains Windows), you will need to reschedule the disk check for the next time you restart your computer.

The reason that it says that the disk is in use by another process is because it is in use by the operating system (Vista), and that's why it must be run at startup, before the operating system loads fully.

Another utility, you need to perform is the System File Checker, if you can get your computer to start, either normally or in Mode without failure.
To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
Click Start and type cmd in the box start the search.
Right click on cmd in the list programs, and then click Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue
At the command prompt, type the following line and press ENTER:
    sfc/scannow
When the analysis is complete, test to see if the problem you are experiencing is resolved.

Let us know what these tests are and how we can also provide assistance.

  • Cannot run command line error during program installation

One of the suppliers with which our company works sent us a new program to securely transmit data between our computers and their server. I installed it on all of our computers but. I have run the install and I get a box that appears and says:

    Cannot run commandline

It is a professional Windows 7 system with all updates. Other computers I installed on are a mix of Win 7 Home & Professional and 2 systems to win 10.

When I look at the installation on other computers, it is a simple installation of Installshield.

I ran several programs to check the virus or maleware and he comes clean. I have run chkdsk /f and sfc/scannow. I run cleaning programs and defragmented the disk.

It doesn't matter if I run it in compatibility mode different or as an administrator. Result in the box to appear.

I can't pass this system to earn 10 again because of other programs that need to run on it.

I could use you help figure this.

    Thank you

I solved my problem. It seems at one point that the user has installed a program called UltimateZip not realizing that Windows would decompress the files for it. Later, she deleted the program and he had left his associations in the registry. I ran some programs uninstaller to make sure that none of the programs files have been left and then here:

    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html and downloaded the

files needed to restore the association for exe, zip, and lnk files. I followed the instructions on the site and merge the registry entries. I restarted the computer and was able to install the program. In fact, it is a simple process. Thanks to sevenforums for having this help there. I hope this helps someone else.
