Cannot shutdown computer

Whenever I try to shut down my computer, I get a message saying that Outlook is open, even if I already closed Outlook.  I checked Task Manager and Outlook was permanently closed. The open only option seems to be to force a stop down.  When I do this the computer starts "logout".  Eight hours later he's still "logout".  In the end, the only way I can close my pc is to press the off button.

EDIT:

I also have problems with Microsoft Outlook, and I think that these two problems are related.  Most of the time Outlook works fine, but computer will fade and say "not responding". I have to go into the Task Manager and close. When I try to open it again, it never progresses beyond the stage of loading.

Thanks for your help.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

  • When I shutdown computer it stays on

When I try to shut down my computer, the power stays on I have to actually push the button. is there a solution? Thank you for advice or info!

Shutdown problems are usually caused by a program or process that won't come out gracefully. The program or process may be against malware, or may be legitimate (for example a pervasive like Norton or McAfee antivirus). If you use Norton or McAfee product, uninstall it and replace it with a better program like NOD32, Kasperksy or Avast (free). The Windows Firewall is enough for most people. Shutdown problems can also be caused by old/badly written drivers so make sure that all drivers are updated, especially on Windows Vista and Windows 7.

A.the first step should always ensure that your computer is free of viruses/malware.

    http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

    B. If the computer is free of viruses/malware, the drivers are current, and no program Norton or McAfee is installed, then do boot minimum troubleshooting to see what program/process is the culprit:
