Cannot turn system icons on or off, excluding the clock icon.

Hello

The title pretty much everything said. I can turn only the clock system power icon. Everything is grayed out. Now, when I go to the task bar, click Customize and access the power, the network, volume, and center of the action, they are all checked to "display the icons and notifications '. However when I navigate to 'enable or disable system icons' they are all grayed out except the clock. Now I use a HP tx2z which has quick launch buttons. From there I can change the power plan, see my network status and change the volume; However, I can't do this on the taskbar.

All this happened randomly when I logged on and off my laptop. I tried to reboot several times, closing, create a new power plan, cleaning the registry. I tried to open the policy editor of group local and disabling the option 'Remove Battery Meter' as stated in this similar question but there is no option to do so. There is an option for all other icons that appear dimmed.

The pictures showing the problem can be seen here , here , here and here . Highlight the link to see the description. I didn't install anything.

Thank you!

Patrick

I found the problem. I had a custom theme installed and how I installed it (through the registry by changing the shell at a "Explorer" different but I nominated is something else) disabled icons. This is probably because these icons have been 'search' for the shell named "Explorer" not what I had changed to. Anyone who the problem is resolved and thanks for helping me! -Patrick

  • Cannot acess System Recovery Options, need help with the registry. Kindly help.

Hi, sorry for the long question, but please help.

To start off the coast, one day out of nowhere, my PC showed a "Login process initialization failed" error As a result, I am able to go pass the stage of "Starting Windows" but can't see the login screen. The way to remedy this problem is to restore windows. Now I'm able to reach recovery system (F8) Options, but it does not allow to login me as "admin". As soon as I select the language and keyboard input mode he asks me user name and password. The strange thing is there are two options for the username "admin" and the other is 'Office' (I did not have any accounts with these names). I read an article on the Dell (my pc manufacturer) website that said to log on as an administrator. But the Recovery Options does not give me access as 'admin' for any password I tried. I tried all the standard passwords and password for my account admin on PC (which has not been named admin btw). I also tried to leave it blank, but Recovery Options points out "the user name or password is incorrect" every time. Now, I tried to find a way to work around and reached here

The DEFAULT value"securitylevel" = DWORD: 00000001 '00000000' is (zero).  Note that all tests, as described above has been completed with the default setting for this registry entry.

Please just help me to implement this tweak. How can I access registry without the need to log in.

The way to remedy this problem is to restore windows.

It is correct. To call the system restore, follow these steps:

    1. Use your repair Windows CD to start the computer in Windows Repair Mode. You will not have a password.
    2. Use the system restore to solve your problem.
    3. Plan in advance and create, test and document a spare, even admin account that you have a spare House key. On behalf of alternatives would easily get around your current situation.

If you do not have a CD to repair Windows, ask a friend to burn you through the control panel / backup and restore.

Suddenly, something has changed in my computer and now I can't turn on network discovery. Every time I try, I get message "the specified service does not exist as an installed service. I get the same message for others e.g. file sharing and printer sharing. Changes the most recent have been updated to McAfee a few days ago. But the network worked well until last night.

    Hello

What is the brand and model of your computer?

    Method 1:
Based on the network location you choose, Windows affects a State of network for network discovery and opens the Windows Firewall ports suitable for this State.

Step 1: We recommend you to check if the elements of network discovery are enabled in Windows Firewall. To do this, try the following steps.
    a. Click Start, type firewall and then click Windows Firewall with advanced security.
    b. click on rules of incoming traffic in the left pane and select the (SSDP-In) network discovery and network discovery (UPnP-) in the list.
    c. click on rules of outgoing traffic in the left pane and enable network discovery (SSDP-out) and the discovery of the network (UPnP-Out) in the list.
    d. apply the changes and check the result.

For more information about network discovery, see this link:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/what-is-network-discovery

Step 2: Check the status of the following services: browser, TCP/IP NetBios support.
    a. Click Start, type services.msc and press to enter.
    b. in the list of services, double-click the service computer browser and TCP/IP NetBios support.
    c. change the startup type to automatic and start the service.
    d. apply the changes.

  • Turn system icons on or off via a script?

    Hello

I'm currently building a CC4 network in a school.  The product of CC4 is a front end AD/GP, designed to be used by less experienced network administrators.  I'll save the ad and you link here: http://tinyurl.com/ch75853.

Whatever this is effected in the CC4 console, under the hood is through Group Policy. As you can imagine that the group policies for the workstations are heavily locked down to prevent children from playing with the configuration of PC.  By default, built PCs made by RM software do not show the sound icon and (If portable) power icon in the notification area of the task bar. I looked into having enabled through Group Policy settings and register, but neither seem to show icons if the icons are not enabled in the first place. I went even as far to try to capture a file of the registry/written using the process without result monitor.

So is my question, possible to turn on the sound icons and power using a VB or Powershell script?

    Hello

I have a Satellite L500-1GL (comes with Win 32-bit =) and since I installed the latest updates I can not disable the wireless function. When I use the shortcut key to activate or disable the indicator led is turning on and off, but the wireless feature is always turned on and even the icon which shows the network connection, itself changes without doing something with it.

A few times it shows Red Cross (as she has no connection), but says: connected. When I use wireless connecton always displays the cable connection icon. most of the time, when he should have been showing the strength of the signal.

This is reaally annoing. Please help me solve this problem.

  • Power system icon is gray turned off in Windows 8

I have Windows 8. But the notification of the power icon does not appear in the taskbar. I ' tried to fix it in the notification thus in the system icon portions but I can't because the possibility to activate the icon is grayed out offshore and does not allow me to change it.

I removed the battery and inserted back but still the same problem persists.

I found the answer to this in a forum. The solution is the following:

Go to Device Manager, click on battery uninstall "microsoft compatible ac adapter".

Take action. Click scan for new hardware.

It will find the battery and you will not even need to restart :-)

  • Laptop screen turns off but the system never sleeps when closed.

    Hello!

I have a laptop Alienware M14x and quite frequently when I close my laptop, the screen turns off but the system will not. When I reopen it, the screen stays off and the system seems still to go but no matter what I press on, the screen does not turn. To fix it, I just turn it off power then back on the power button. I know that my laptop is still running because the fans are still running and the lights on the front and on the keyboard are lit. I don't know if this is a problem common or not, but it's really annoying.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! If there are other details that might help, do not hesitate to ask!

    Thank you!

    -S.

Firstly I find a windows command can tell you if you have something that prevents the mode 'sleep'. Run as administrator command window and use the command: powercfg-query.

If you have my problem and SRVNET is active, you will see this:

    SYSTEM:
    [DRIVER] \FileSystem\srvnet
An active remote client recently sent requests for this machine.

    2. to add SRVNET to the exempt list, do the following at the command prompt (EXACTLY as shown below.)  DRIVER MUST be written in capital letters):

powercfg - requestsoverride DRIVER '\FileSystem\srvnet' system Awaymode

and for good measure (not sure if necessary but I did anyway)...

powercfg - requestsoverride DRIVER "srvnet' system Awaymode

    3. once all is said and done, it should look like this after you run:

    powercfg - requestsoverride

    [DRIVER]
    \FileSystem\srvnet SYSTEM AWAYMODE
    srvnet SYSTEM AWAYMODE

4 enjoy again the "sleep mode".
