Cannot update Windows Media Player security update

I tried to download a book from library using Overdrive and it wouldn't work.  He said that I needed to update the Media Security Update window.  I did and I said OK to download the file, it gave me a message saying "a security upgrade is required to play this file. You want to download this update? "I said yes and he gave me a message stating:"the date of the certificate is invalid or has expired"the only option was to close or web assistance.  Help Web lacked all of the solutions and close terminated the option and left me in the same situation as before.  Any ideas on how I can get past this so I can down load books from library.

Hello can not understand,

Make sure you have the latest Windows Media Security Update.
You can download it here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=1d224714-e238-4e45-8668-5166114010ca

This is for Windows XP. If you need the upgrade of Windows XP 64-bit, check here:
http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=474b5618-dfe6-40DE-b59b-1fd61a05749e

Since you use Overdrive to download your book, I suggest that you contact their support.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Marilyn

  • Windows media player security update

I can't upgrade to the windows media player security upgrade for my overdrive media player. I go to tools and hit the upgrade of security and nothing happens. Went to the online version to be upgraded and I do not see anything to upgrade for windows 8 (which I hate!) All of the suggestions. I want to download my audio book. I can download MP3 format, but not WMA. Any help would be grateful!

I had the same experience in trying to follow the steps of the OverDrive.

I managed to get the upgrade by following the steps in this document.  Step 1 has a protected DRM file that you can play using Windows Media Player.  If missing the upgrade, since the upgrade button was grayed out on the site, you will receive a pop-up window to upgrade the DRM.  This should be the upgrade which does not work on the site.  Just make sure to play using Windows Media Player as my default player has been set up for a different program and it does not work.

    Hello

    ·         You get the error message?

    Method 1:

I suggest you to refer to this article and check if it helps.

    Add or edit media information

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-XP/help/Windows-Media-Player/11/album-info

    Method 2:

Also temporarily, try to Disable Antivirus and firewall programs and check if the problem persists.

Important note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

  • Windows Media Player security alert

I downloaded many files, containing tutorials for INKScape.  The first couple worked fine, but then I started to get the following security warning: "current security settings do not allow this action" I use Norton 360.  As far as I know there has been no change to the settings.  This warning comes on Windows Media Player.  It may have something to do with the fact that the files came from an external computer.

    Hi johnwayne46,

To focus in the right direction, we need the following information:

    (a) don't you get this message when you try to play the file in windows media player?

    (b) do you use the computer as an administrator?

Check if the problem occurs when you run the computer as an administrator.

    If the problem persists,

Reset the default security zone, until now, follow the steps below:

    1. open windows MediaPlayer

    2. press on the Alt key on the keyboard > select Tools , then click options

    3. in the window options > click the Security tab, and then click region settings

    4. in the window security > click reset all zones to default level

    5. click on apply and ok.

Now, check if the problem is resolved.

  • Cannot remove Windows Media Player 12 library

I want to remove the entire library in Windows Media Player 12 (running Windows 7) so I can start over with a new database. With previous versions of WMP, it was simple - I get the Media Player folder in the Local environment and remove all files (leaving the files). Now when I try to do it I get the message "cannot complete this action because the file is open in Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service. Close the file and try again. "How can I do this?

    Hi red high Mahoney,

Thank you for using the Microsoft Answers forums.

Make sure that the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service network service or Windows Media Connect does not work as follows:

    1. click on start and then click on run
    2. in the run box, type services.msc
    3. in Services, locate the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service or Windows Media Connect (WMC) and then verify that the status column is started
    4. double-click on the service and click on the Stop button, change the type to disabled startup
    5 restart the computer.

To reactivate the function repeat the above process, by clicking on the Start button instead of the stop and change the type of startup to automatic.

    Now try to delete libraries.
