Cannot upgrade vista since December. Help, please.

Since December 23 last year I have not received updates vista and now the program fails to work properly. I have to restart at least twice a day. Host Windows fails and then I can't use the windows Explorer, and then the office, then I can't open word. etc, etc, etc. The software seems naturally escalate if I do not receive the updates. Help, please...

Hi Michael Gilwood,

Since you have tried all the troubleshooting steps and still faced problems, I suggest you do an InPlace upgrade.

An upgrade on the spot is the final solution before you have to reinstall the operating system.
Note that it takes as much time to do the upgrade as to reinstall the operating system. In addition, some of your custom Windows settings may be lost through this process.

Run a repair installation will restore the current installation of Windows to the version of the installation DVD. It also requires the installation of all the updates that are not included on the installation DVD

Note Run a repair installation will not damage files and applications that are currently installed on your computer. However, before you perform an Inplace upgrade, you can take a backup of important data. In case of a worst case scenario, you may have to reinstall all the programs. Make sure that you back up personal data to disks or other external storage devices before performing an upgrade on the spot. To perform an upgrade in-place, follow these steps.
a. close all running applications.

b. Insert the Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 DVD into the DVD drive of the computer.

c. in the settings window, click install now.

Note If Windows does not automatically detect the DVD, follow these steps:

Click on start and type Drive: \setup.exe in the box to start the search.

Note The placeholder drive is the drive letter of the computer's DVD.

List programs, click Setup.exe.

In the settings window, click install now.

a. click go online to get the latest updates for installation (recommended).

b. type the CD key if you are prompted to do so.

c. in the "Windows Installer" page select the operating system you want to update or Inplace.

d. click Yes to accept the Microsoft software license agreement.

e. on the which type of installation you want? of the screen, click upgrade.

f. when the installation is complete, restart your computer.

How to perform an upgrade on the spot on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 & Windows Server 2008 R2

Once the upgrade has completed, you must activate your copy of Windows Vista.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files that store the registry extensions.

Delete the files (extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini, extensions.cache) extensions.* and compatibility.ini in the profile folder of Firefox to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created if necessary.

    See "extension corrupted files:

HP psc 2210 All in one printer connected via USB for laptop Sony Vaio.  I upgraded from Win Vista to Win 7 32 bit and now cannot get the printer online.  It seems properly load the driver and States printer is ready but when I sent a test print in Quebec and error message States "disconnected printer.  Have followed the instructions in the HP support to install the new driver, repeated several times without success.  Also installed HP Print and doctor Scan that no problem.

Unfortunately, the software needed to get the scan button to work is not available for your operating system. The only way to analyze is through the WIA drivers, which means you can use paint, Photo Gallery or something similar to analyze. If it worked before, you probably were just lucky, because it is not supposed to work.

  • Cannot upgrade Vista Home Premium Vista Ultimate 64-bit

I have a computer with an OEM Vista Home Premium 64-bit version installed. I bought Vista Ultimate Upgrade 64-bit and when I try to upgrade instead of clean install I not give me the option to upgrade. Instead, I can install a clean install and lose all programs, settings, I have on my system that has taken a lot of time.  Why the copy I bought directly from the microsoft.com site does not my upgrade, even if it is the version upgrade of Vista? I want to be able to do things such as distance to this computer and the Premium version does not allow me.

Thank you for all the advice and help.

Make sure that you do not have 64-bit installed.

  • Cannot upgrade Vista Basic to Vista Ultimate

I bought a CD Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade from a local computer store to upgrade my Vista Home Basic to Vista Ultimate. Currently, I am not prepared to lose my data by installing a "clean copy", I just want to upgrade. The problem happens after I enter the product key and accept the license agreement and that I can't choose the button "Upgrade". I get a message saying: "could not start the upgrade. To upgrade, cancel Setup, and then choose to upgrade to a version of windows that is newer than the version you are running. »

To my knowledge, I am as Vista Home Basic 32-bit slot. The upgrade CD is a 32-bit windows operating system platform. The computer and the CD have English as their main language.

My guess is that the Setup program on the CD does not recognize that the current installed OS is a version older than the one being installed. And so I'm stumped on how to solve this problem. You think that these messages could be a little more specific.

This is the opposite of what you think; operating system installed is the most RECENT.

Looking for a difference in numbers/Service Pack levels.

If Service Packs came pre-installed on the operating system, there is no way to uninstall them.
You will need to swap the disk to upgrade to a later version that includes the missing Service Pack.

On your installed operating system Service Pack level cannot be greater than what is on the disk to upgrade.

Click Start > right click on computer > properties > system > it will tell you which SP you have installed.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/948537

"How to uninstall Windows Vista service packs"

If the OS installed Service Pack 2 and Service Pack 1 upgrade disk > uninstall SP2 installed operating system > install the upgrade > reinstall SP2.

And run the upgrade of a Vista operating system.

32-bit to 64-bit and 64-bit to 32-bit is a clean install, not an upgrade, if you have different versions of ILO.

    See you soon.

  • Z1 HP - upgrade graphics card! Help, please!

    Hello world.

First of all I would like to say my knowledge of graphics cards is very limited so if you would be kind enough to explain things to me step by step. Thank you

So I bought a Z1 - model WM427EA #ABU - and have already updated the RAM, I want to update the graphics card because AFAIK that comes with my model is completely s * the graphics on borderlands (game) look terrible on my Z1 and shiny on my new classmates Vaio all-in-one. I played with the graphics settings in the game without success.

I looked inside the Z1 and couldn't find something that looks like a graphics card. I looked at other models - one with the quadro 4000 - and they seem to have a black box, one on the left side while mine was just an empty space: s. According to most of the sites I have a card/controller "Intel HD Graphics 2000 Dynamic Video Memory Technology."

It would be possible for me to say buy a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 (http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GTX+680 & id = 41) and paste it into my machine? I noticed that there a housing as if she had to go in a tower. I should locate and remove the controller/original graphics card before I could install it?

I really hope HP havnt done so its only compatible with some cards. Which would defeat the purpose of the machine being easily expandable...

Any help appreciated, thanks a lot

    Chris

PS you can get the specifications to

    http://www.equanet.co.UK/catalogue/item/it-equipment/computers/computer-workstations/HP-workstation-...

Make sure it is the Xeon E3-1245v2 if you intend to do this (noting the "v2" at the end)

It's a new architecture than the E3-1245 ("v1" If you want) and the v2 has a major upgrade to the graphics capabilities on the former model, will perform a little better for the CPU to destination as well tasks. It should work more fresh and quieter too, as an added bonus. It should not cost more than either a v1.

You can buy units in a sales package retail or OEM (just naked CPU). You get a heat sink with the retail package, but you don't use it. There is not generally a big cost difference between the two, however, perhaps only a few £/ $ extra for the retail box. I tend to hesitate to ebay, unless I can't avoid it (as with the MXM cards). You have problems to find a 1245v2 to stock from several reputable providers and potentially get a better deal on ebay also.

Replace the CPU isn't too difficult, but I recommend checking out a few guides before you try it yourself - I don't dive in details here on a generic CPU swap because there is nothing I can say that google or youtube will not tell you 10 times more.

There is nothing particularly unique about the replacement of the CPU in the Z. The cooler is set by a few screws and simply lifts off once they are free (and the fans are disconnected from the motherboard).

Once it is off, clean the bottom with something that won't leave a residue (e.g., not something as a solvent for nail polish with perfumes etc.. I use TIM Akasa cleaner and it works very well). Decliper and open setting around the CPU, pop in the new processor carefully, noting the location indicated by the arrow in the corner of the CPU lines until the arrow on the socket. Re-engage the strain relief and apply little thermal grease directly on the CPU (there are many on the market, I use Arctic Silver 5). Make sure not to apply too much grease, you're going to a very thin layer, better youtube it for technique.

Then all that remains is to replace the cooler (making sure not to forget to plug back in), close the PC and fire.

EDIT: One more thing-update your BIOS to the latest version before swap you the processors, it could not start with the E3-1245v2 with a BIOS earlier, which gives you a nice 'Uh Oh' moment, before realizing you have to UN-swap and then re - Exchange processors again.

  • Equium A110: Cannot upgrade Vista because of ConfigFree

I own a Toshiba Satellite A110, Intel Core Duo 1.66 GHz... When microsoft published the Vista RC2, I downloaded it all tried to install... BUT it won't! WTF... ! It is said that it can not install because of the FREE CONFIG which is installed on my machine... you know, the one that manages your connection to internet without wire wireless... It is not compatible... He said that I should uninstall it.

I can't do it because maybe I can't use a wireless connection anymore. Has anyone CONFIG FREE too who wants to upgrade to vista or who owns a successful installation without uninstalling the free config?

YOU KNOW I WANT TO PERSONALLY ASK "TOSHIBA" ON THIS SUBJECT, BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE A LINK THAT WILL ALLOW YOU TO SEND BY E-MAIL. So far I'm trying out...

First of all I did not any Toshiba utility tools and drivers specifically for Vista. It seems at this time are no update available! Why? Perhaps because it is not official on the market?

Second, the Configfree is not necessary to use or to connect to the WLan.
I use operating system simply configuration or Intel Proset utility.

Finally why you n t create the second partition on the HARD disk, and then install the Vista operating system on that partition?
    Come on man...

By the way: I will give you a valuable advice:

Cannot access Internet on my laptop with Windows XP SP2 installed; uninstalled firewall; Microsoft Security Essentials (AV) installed

ipconfig/all shows a 192.168.x.x ip address to my ethernet card.

TCP/IP properties are set to "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically."

I am able to search names and ping by ip address but cannot ping by hostname. When I try to navigate through a Web site, it displays the message "Waiting for http://xxx.xxx.xxx ' in the status bar, but fails to load the Web page.

I tried a few sites by their IP with the browser, for example 212.58.244.143, and IE was able to load the Web page (without any objects of course requiring name resolution).

Able to ping loopback (127.0.0.1) as well as the computer by its name (which resolves to the ip address is assigned to the).

ARP - a shows the entrance to the default gateway. Able to ping.

I did ipconfig/flushdns and / registerdns without effect.

Even with net stop dnscache and net start dnscache.

Manually reset TCP/IP too by following the instructions here.

Also used "netsh winsock reset catalog" according to the guideline here.

Running out of ideas here... could someone please advise what to do? Or what additional information it would take to solve this problem?

I met the same problem on win7. I also tried each solusion what you tried.

In the end, I reinstalled the tcp/ip stack and solved this problem. Try the following steps:

    1 remove

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2

    2 reset

    3. right click on the network connection and then click Properties. Reinstall the protocols of the disc. The location is 'C:\Windows\inf '. Choose the «ipv4...» "and"ipv6 ".

    4 reboot

    Everything is ok.
