  I have a desktop model Pavilion HP500-A60. I just opted for Time Warner Cable because they offered 200 Mbps internet speed. He module is connected to my computer with an ethernet cable and it has a wifi wireless to my TV. I had a service computer, run a diagnostic test and they have attached a wireless adapter on motherboard of my computer, at least then around 48-49mbps, I received two days... then he went to 30, then 20 and now I get only the speed of download 9.58 for the last 4 days. I ran the speedtest a number of hours between 08:00 and 23:00 with the same results. Now I don't know what to do. Can someone shed some light on my problem and advise me what can I do next?   Today I lost full use of my wireless router. I realized when I've upgraded to Windows 8 I forgot to reinstall the software for my wireless router netgear.

  So I'm going to install and it says ' card is either off or no Ethernet card Ethernet is installed on this computer. I went on their site, there is no clear indicator that my router is compatible to Windows 8. My Netgear router is a N-300 (WNR2000v2).

  I also tried access http://192.168.1.1 but it doesn't show up.

  Does anyone have any suggestions.

  From your desktop

  Right-click of the network connection icon in the notification bar

  Select open network and sharing Center

  in the left navigation pane, select change adapter settings

  That should tell you if it is installed or not. If it's disabled right-click on it and select Enable.

  My office internet cable cut for a few seconds every 3 to 5 minutes.  Laptops are able to access the internet wireless via the router.  My conclusion is that the (card?) ethernet adapter must be replaced.  I did some research but may not work on what I have to buy (what it's called), which record (speed?) and where to put (a card slot? replace something?).  I prefer to keep a wired connection, because it is much faster.

  I have a Toshiba Equium A60-692 (model: PSA67E-001001EN). It has a wifi, lid at the rear for a wifi card, but I can't seem to find a list of anywhere where wifi cards are compatible. Someone would be able to provide me with a list of compatible cards!

  Some people said that the Toshiba Equium A60-692 does not support a Wifi but as there is a sign for one at the back I guess that it is wifi ready! In the connectivity for the Athros Wizard, he says also there a 1394 connection, but it does not have a card.

  If s said Atheros has a connection 1394 so I guess this means that the firewire.
  The IEEE 1394 mean the firewire connection available on this laptop.

  Anyway, the WiFi network is not available and if you want to use WLan technology on your laptop if you use the WLAN USB key. It is the simplest way to connect to the wireless LAN.

  According to the support page, Lenovo drivers are provided with the operating system. I suggest to check if the device is turned on in the BIOS (press F1 at startup to enter), look under Config-> network. Additionally, make sure that the device is turned on in Windows by going to the Network Center and sharing-> change the map settings.

  Windows Update also give a go.
