CD/DVD not detected in my computer players

Hi all!

I have a problem that seems to be quite common, but cannot find an answer to it.  My problem is for my XP.  I followed all the steps in article 982116 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116/en-us).  Specifically, the problem is that when I Open regedit and go to the place, there is no upper or lower filters listed.  The article does not provide a solution for this.

I have install various CD/DVD players, hoping that it will work.  They do not.  BIOS shows install them.  Manager device displays them but with a small exclamation yellow mark.  I even tried my external DVD drive and plugged into a USB on my computer and I had the same problem.

I can't use my computer because I need to install stuff but can't because I can't get the shoot to work.  I hope someone has a solution.

Thank you

  • CD/DVD drive not detected on the computer... Dell said to reinstall Vista

I have a Vostro 1500 running Vista Basic. My CD/DVD not detected on my computer drive. I looked in Device Manager and there is a yellow alert. When I look at the properties of my drive, there is an error "this device cannot start. (Code 10) ». I ran the PSA and all tests passed. I wasn't able to install an updated driver because the device is not detected on my computer. It is listed in the BIOS.
I called Dell support week last to try to understand the problem. After about 2 hours of doing the things I had already done including the installation of new drivers (drivers installed not because the system does not detect the drive), they decided to send me a new CD drive. I received it this morning and it's another brand than what I had before, but I don't think it's a problem. The new drive I received today does not work either. It has the same problem as the original drive. I contacted Dell support online today and after explaining my situation together again (what is the use for a no of cases when I explain the problem 5 times in any case?) is first sent to a Microsoft for Windows XP KB (I use Vista so it's of no use at all) and then told that my registry is corrupt and I need to reinstall Windows. I don't buy it, but I told the tech that I was willing to humor. So, here am I, there is no information on the Microsoft support site I can find related to this specific error code. There are a lot of XP, but like I said, it's of no use to me using Vista.  My patience is wearing very thin with this situation and Dell.
Someone has any suggestions, advice or anything before I chuck the stupid thing out the window? =)

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community Forums!

If I understand the question, digital mp3 player is not detected on the computer. Please let me know if this is not correct.

Before I continue with the troubleshooting steps I may need a few more details to better understand the issue.
    1. what operating system do you use?
    2. do you receive any error messages?
    3. are you having the same problem with other USB devices?
    4. have you tried plugging the machine into the other USB Ports?
    5. did you of recent changes on the computer before this problem?
    6. What is the serial number and model of the MP3 player?
    Method 1:
We will first try to plug in other USB Ports and on another computer to make sure that there is no problem with the digital mp3 player.
    Method 2:
If the first method does not resolve the problem, run the hardware and devices Troubleshooter and check if it helps.

  • CD/DVD drive not detected in 'my computer '.

Ok.  That is the problem.  A few weeks ago, I couldn't find my CD/DVD device in 'my computer '.  I read the solution involving the modification of the registry.  Scary stuff, I know, but I did everything very carefully and removed the filters superiors and inferiors, and Wallah, it worked and my CD/DVD device appararurent again and I was able to open a CD and look at the files.  The same thing happened again, but when I look at the registry fix again he has no less and the top filter to remove.  I ran all kinds of diagnostic tools Microsoft Mr. Fix and after execution, gently, he finally tells me "the CD/DVD device not detected.  Well, DOH!  I already knew!  But how to fix it? I have a HP laptop with a build in the drive.  When I put a CD in the tray and close it I hear all the normal whirring etc of the currently playing disc, but nothing happens.  Absolutely nothing - a bit like these emails that promise miracles that if you pass them on to 10 people, absolutely nothing happens.  Please help - in non-technical terms please.  I am a user of the computer, not a grumpy, instructions must be simple.  Oh, I must add, after reading other topics of the forum, my tray works perfectly.  I can load and unload CDs.  Finally, my CD/DVD drive IS NOT doesn't appear in Device Manager if no suggestion re clicking on the disk or drive in Device Manager.  IT is NOT THERE.

    Hello

You have loaded CD/DVD programs just before this started happening? Often those who will compete
for resources that load themselves into memory and the interaction parts cause strange problems.

Check with HP Support, their drivers and documentation online and ask in the forums known HP
    questions.

    ------------------------------------

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and
the correct registry entries for your car.

Here are the keys that I of course are those in question - for the subkeys of the CD/DVD drive
as there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask specific keys involved as well as
    the parameters.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Hardware Profiles\0001\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

You can probably find more info here and maybe even the exact registry for your CD/DVD settings
drive from someone with the same model.

  • used open DVD player and is not detected by my computer or Device Manager

Portable Hi, im having a problem with my dvd player, it worked fine, then I stop my computer one night, woke up the next day, tried to open my dvd drive but it used open... so I checked my computer and it has not been detected there, so I took the next step and active Device Manager... it has not been shown here either ive deleted filters upper and lower, but nothing works, I still have to check the bios because im not sure 100% what to look for or even how to check the bios, Ive only had my laptop a year and keep it in good condition... I hope it's a software problem and I don't have to send it for repair.

    any advice would be appreciated

OK, I tried the sfc/scan command prompt now he got 77% and said that he could not perform the requested operation, I'll try a few more things you have posted and get back to you with the results

    Thanks for the help.

I took your advice and tried Panda antivirus so far its adware found one, an attepmts of two Trojans and blocked to high jack my wifi connection, it's much better than my old av that has not detected any of these things!

OK I just finished trying all the checks you mentioned... but nothing helps, looks like it's a hardware faliure after all, well.

    Thanks for the help anyway.

  • CD/DVD NOT DETECTED AFTER UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10 DRIVE

This morning (July 30), I've updated by computer for the operating system Windows 10.  Since then, however, my CD/DVD drive is not detected or recognized.

The icon on my desktop has a big question mark on it.  If I click who, I get the following error message:

The element 'E:\. ' that this shortcut refers to has been chnaged or moved, and this shortcut no longer works correctly.

I looked in the Device Manager for the CD/DVD player, and there is nothing there.

What happened and how to fix it?

I had the same problem. It worked to fix my Windows 10 Pro system. Note This mentions 32 bits, but it worked for my Windows 64-bit 10. This was taken from http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03280768

Resolution 5: Create a registry subkey
Note to use this method, you must be logged on to Windows as an administrator. If you need help, check that you are an administrator, go to http://support.microsoft.com/gp/admin

To create the registry subkey, follow these steps:
Press the Windows logo key + R to open the run. (or right click on the windows down icon to the left)
Type regedit in the run box, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on allow
In the navigation pane, locate the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi
Right-click atapi, point to new, and then click key.
    Type Controller0 and press ENTER.
Right-click Controller0, point to new, and then click DWORD(32-bit) value.
