  Apps are tied to apple id and password that was used to download/purchase it.

  Try your old password and see if you can update or not.

  Is your MBP in the same location as your iDevices? (which means that the connection to the Wifi network / is not passing by too many walls, metal (refrigerator and others), etc.). And, in the case where your model always has an ethernet port, have you tried to check the speed hooked with cable rather than wireless?

  How are you connected to email? Is Outlook express or Microsoft Outlook? You use the same e-mail address on both computers to check your email?

  If so - you won't get messages on computers unless you enable "Leave a copy of messages on the server" on both computers. Reason - Outlook will download and delete emails from your msn Inbox, another pc won't get emails to download.

  Outlook Express:

  To configure this perspective open-> tools-> accounts-> Mail-> Double click on your account-> Advanced-> Tickmark "Leave a copy on the server"-> Ok. You can specify after how many days to delete the emails if you wish.
