Change Gmail password in Mail (El Capitan)

Title says it all. I changed my Gmail password. (For the obsessive, he is an email account DIFFERENT than the one I posted a few minutes ago. Different problem.)

Literally, there is no place to change the password. The field under mail > preferences > account just does not exist.

I changed the password two deeper layers in the SMTP settings, but this does not apparently change the IMAP setting. It's not logical at all.

I'm happy change a preferences file, but which? I deleted everything related to this account in Keychain Access, but I don't always have the opportunity to enter a new password.

I have two Gmail accounts and changed the two passwords. There is no place in Mail or Internet accounts to change. I found a post that says to remove and re-add the account. I really hope that's not true.

    Hi rafilm,

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple! I'm sorry to hear you're having this problem with Mail on your Mac and your Gmail account. Based on the error/alert message you get on "modern security standards", it seems that the issue may have to do with 2-step audit, and/or a specific app password. • How can I change my password on EL Capitan mail 9.2

I'm under El Capitan and using Mail to get to my iCloud and Yahoo mail.  And the account settings no longer has a field "password".  It does not exist in the e-mail settings, or internet preferences.  Where can I find the place to update and change my password for my iCloud email and my Yahoo email for messaging 9.2 El Capitan running?  Help, please.  Thank you.  I don't understand why the field of password feature is not included in all aspects of establishing an email account in account preferences.  It should be so simple - as it was yesterday before the upgrade to the top of El Capitan.

    Jon

To change the password in El Capitan Mail 9.2, you could do a little weird way:

Mail / preferences / accounts / Account Information / Server outgoing (SMTP) mail / change the list of SMTP servers / (choose the account you want to update), at the bottom of the window:

    User name:...

    Password:...

It's viable work around me for my Gmail accounts. I hope it help you too!

    • No option to change the password for Gmail/Yahoo mail

Updated for Sierra and want to change your Gmail and Yahoo mail password, but the interface has changed and I don't see any option for their setting in preferences/Server Mail or Internet accounts settings.

      What is going on?

Open Keychain Access and find the entries for these accounts. Either, remove them will cause Mail to ask you for the password or change the entry to provide the new password.

To change, double-click the entry, and then click the show password check box. Enter your user account password (or password in Keychain so you changed it).

    • I changed my gmail password on my Mac mail application, but she always asks the password on my ipad

I changed my google / password gmail via Safari on my Mac and used a password generated Safari. The email clients on all my devices began to ask for the password. I entered manually on my MacBook, but each device is still asking for the new password. I have iCloud on all devices with active Keychain, I missed something because I thought that the password should be migrated to all other e-mail clients. Is there a way to do this automatically because the auto generated passwords are difficult to remember without having to type in and in more you can not copy and paste of the keychain, entry to the app on the iPad.

      Thanks for any help.

      Greetings, tmoore2310!

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support. I see that your gmail password has been updated on your MacBook Pro upgrade to Mac OS Sierra. You also made certain that the iCloud Keychain on your Mac was aware of the update, but devices still require this password. I'll be happy to help you with this.

The first thing you want to make sure of is that you are connected to the same iCloud ID on all your devices. If it is in order, read this article to learn more, especially in this section:
      Get help using iCloud keychain

If you cannot synchronize iCloud Keychain with other devices

Make sure that your device is on a Wi - Fi or the cellular network. If the connection seems strong, try the following steps:

      1. turn off iCloud Keychain on all devices.
      2. turn on iCloud Keychain on the device that has the most up-to-date keychain items.
      3. turn on iCloud Keychain on your other devices. They will be updated with your iCloud new keychain.

      Have a great day!

    • I changed my password of gmail e-mail. How can I change the password used by Thunderbird to connect to gmail.

I changed the password used to access my gmail account. Thunderbird still uses the old password to access the account. How can I change the password that is using Thunderbird. The last time this happened I ended up creating a new account to Thunderbird for gmail. Create the new Thunderbird account at least let me enter the new password. I don't really want to have three accounts of Thunderbird for the same gmail account.

Please do not respond with suggestions on using password manager. I do not use it and do not want to start. I looked, and none of my Thunderbird passwords are displayed here. All I want to do is change the password in Thunderbird. If Thunderbird does not have a feature that allows you to change passwords, should be added.

The link posted by Christ1 gives WRONG directions. In Thunderbird 24.4.0, is:
Tools, Options, security, passwords, saved passwords

Admittedly, in fact, you want that he SHOWS you the passwords, and then you can delete them.
Once fact you check for mail, it will tell you, it didn't, and then you have the option to enter a new password.
MUCH too complicated. Time to put the password and the ability to change, in the e-mail account options.

    • Unable to access Mail on Mac after the Gmail password change.

I changed my Gmail password after "suspicious activity", but now I can't Mail to work on my Mac. The first error says that the password is incorrect so I signed up via a web browser successfully, so I knew the password worked. Then, I deleted and added re my account but I get an error "the imap login failed." I tried to configure the POP account with the same results ("pop connection failed"). Conversely, I CAN access my account through the web and on my iPhone.

I can't understand what is the trick for adding Mail on my Mac. Any suggestions?

He might try to use the old password in the keychain. Unless you go to keychain and delete, it is still there. What operating system do you use? 10.6.8 is? Also if it does not store the new password in the keychain that would.

I'm under El Capitan and using Mail to access my Gmail account via IMAP. I'm looking for instructions on how I'm going to change my password for this configuration. • Cannot connect to gmail after changing the password

I changed my gmail password yesterday, but since he could not connect and a message appeared asking me to go to: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/78754

I have already try to disconnected and connecte connected to my account gmail in Firefox, use the DisplayUnlockCaptcha and permit apps less secure access my mails. But none of this works.

In case the problem was thank Thunderbird too often connected, I also gave it a night and I tried again this morning, but no luck. I can access my email in the web and app Android gmail, but not Thunderbird.

Are there other solutions to this problem?

I finally found the solution after the addition of another account in Thunderbird with the same email.

My original account has been set to use the "Normal password" as authentication method, and it worked fine, until I changed the password.
But after adding the new account, I noticed gmail utilisΘ 'OAuth2.

Changing the "Normal Password" to 'OAuth2' in the server settings-> authentication method, fixed the problem.

    • Cannot remove Thunderbird mail all mail or the treaties since I changed my password for googlemail. Can't remove it from the Inbox and sent mail

I recently changed my googlemail password and saved a nine on Thunderbird. However, when I try to delete mail messages or my project all the files they reappear again and I have to go in googlemail to remove. I can delete in the Inbox and sent folders (even if I was prompted to enter the password for each of them at the start, but I have received no invitation for projects and all messages. I don't want to change the settings regarding where these messages are stored.

I thank very you much for your useful replies. I checked all the settings and they were as you described. Removal of all mail is not important and can be done, if necessary, from Gmail. I have overcome the problem of the drafts folder by changing the destination folder in the drafts IMAP that allows me to remove both Thunderbird and Gmail at the same time, which is what I needed. However, I still do not understand why change my Gmail password should have caused the problem in the first place!
