changed start menu

The close button is gone in my menu start all of a sudden... I use windows 7... How can I get that back? Thank you

Hello

The best way to solve this problem would be to run the Windows system restore.  If you have Norton Internet Security installed, you should disable Norton Tamper Protection as described in step 2, on the link below - in the case otherwise just go directly to the procedure below.

http://us.Norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docURL=20091112171719EN&LN=en_US

Once you are done, turn off the PC.  Windows system restore is usaully better run in Mode without failure.  Tap away at f8 that you start the PC to enter the Windows Recovery Console.  Use the arrow keys to select Safe mode and press ENTER.  When it has loaded, on the Start Menu, click principally made programs, accessories, click System Tools and run the system restore.  Choose a restore point at least 24 hours prior to the issuance and then proceed to the restoration.  When you are finished, Windows will restart normally.

Kind regards

    Hello, campus56

You can try the system restore to when it worked as desired: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084

If Windows Search is installed through Windows updates, you can try to uninstall. In Add/Remove Programs, check the show updates at the top and look for Windows Desktop Search and uninstall it.

    Hello

Thank you for using Microsoft answers.

Icons on the start menu is not editable, but you can download and install third-party themes to change the Visual effects of the start menu.

You can use your favorite search engine to download and install themes.

Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

  • The option change username isn't appearing any more in the start menu

Hello, I have Vista Home Premium 64-bit. After several months of normal use, the option change user (fast user switching) has disappeared from the start menu. Why he's missing out, and more importantly: is there a way to restore this feature? I'm not aware of any change in my system. Thank you.

    Hello Rami,

I think that your answer should have worked but... I solved the problem already yesterday! The solution was restore the system to a previous restore point, but these, like last month, when the rapid change of user feature still worked. It took me a few minutes to do and my data were unchanged.
It seems that the problem came from one of the Microsoft updates. I got the system configured for automatic updates and these are quite common. I have now disabled the automatic update option as the system is stable as is.

Thanks a lot for your help.

    Hello

There is no way to display the menu all programs when you click on the Start button. Start is similar to a toolbar. When you select it, it will show all the different components that you can access.

You can stop the recent programs to display. Right-click the Start button and select Properties. In the privacy section, Remove the check mark from the option store and display recently opened programs in the start menu .

    I hope this helps.

Thank you for using Windows 7

    Concerning

  • Windows 8 - not able to access 'Change PC settings'; Unable to create a user profile. Store/Start menu does not work.

    Hello

Recently, I'm stuck with these issues:

    1. not able to access 'Change PC settings' - when I click on it nothing happens.

2 start menu/Store does not work - I am using the profile of the user admin Start Menu is a blank blue screen with just the user name appears at the top right. Store is completely scratched too.

While the guest user has all the tiles in Start menu/store.

    3. cannot create a user profile - I wanted to try to create a new user profile and check if the store is working properly. When I click on 'Add a new user in the laptop settings' nothing happens.

I tried the system restore, but it does not solve all of the above. Is there any solution to these problems without having to reinstall Win 8? I don't have the installation discs.

    TIA!

You can use the restore or refresh options without going in the settings of the PC.  Read the instructions carefully, it says:

If you can't identify, or use laptop settings app, you can access these rather safe mode options. On the login screen, click on the power icon, and then hold down the SHIFT key on the keyboard while you click on restart. Now keep update until the next screen appears.
