Changing keyboard key assignments: U.S. Dollar > pound sterling

I have an American standard layout keyboard.
I don't understand why I have 2 keys which give a symbol dollar and none that give me a pound (or another configurable currency symbol)

I searched the help files available, as well as the existing responses - I have not achieved anything.

How can I change the settings so that my keyboard driver recognizes the key I want to reassign (one above the right arrow key on my layout, close the Euro symbol) is no longer will result in a $ (what I can access via SHIFT + 4), but will now lead a £?

Found this on another forum.  It may be useful

There is no user interface, out to change the registry manually.
Fortunately the Windows 2003 Resource Kit is a handy utility called
"Remapkey.exe", which will make changes to the registry for you. You can
Download Remapkey as part of the tools of the Res Kit from here:
http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
CAUTION: none of these Windows 2003 tools are tested or supported on Vista!
However, Remapkey works great, the installation Code Scan Mapper works exactly
the same Vista as in previous versions. Only difference on Vista is you
you will need to run as administrator (right click on the EXE, choose Run as)
Administrator)

To e-mail, press alt and then sym and it displays a virtual keyboard which keys and then press on to get special characters such as £, euro, yen, showing &,-, {,} [,} and so on.]

You do not press the screen, they are simply showing you what key on the QWERTY keyboard to press immediately

It works, too, in the web browser (I've been using Google) so I think it will work everywhere.

  • U940-11 x satellite: FN + keyboard keys do not work correctly

    Dear all,

I have problems with my Toshiba Satellite recently bought U940-11 X, serial number 2D015354K.

    1. at each reboot the laptop my keyboard settings are not accurate and symbols and function keys do not work properly. So it is also not possible to enter the bios via F2 after reboot.
I have to press CTRL + SHIFT to have my keyboard works correctly. I have to do this every time I use my laptop.

    2. the touchpad (Synaptics TouchPad SMBus) does not work after a few minutes. The only thing I can do is plug an external usb mouse. I have also tried using FN + F9 does not work.

Please, can someone help me on this?

    Thank you!

    > So it is also not possible to enter the bios via F2 after reboot.

I see that the laptop using Win 8.
You need to perform a full stop down to access the BIOS.

See this document. It provides information how to change the settings to access the BIOS:

    + Perform a complete shutdown in Windows 8 +.

    > I have to press CTRL + SHIFT to have my keyboard works correctly.
Have you checked the presentation of the keyboard settings?
For me, it looks like you are using wrong keyboard layout settings. Using the key combination CTRL + SHIFT changes between keyboard layouts.

    How do I change this?
Go to the Control Panel-> regional and Language Options
A click on the "Keyboards and languages" tab then click on "change keyboards" button. Then in the tree "Installed services" list, select the keyboards you don't want and click 'remove.

I have a newly purchased U300-152 with OS vista home premium 32-bit already installed by the distributor in Saudi Arabia.
I observe some of the keys on the keyboard are mixed to the top for example shift + 2 should give us @ and shift +' (apostrophe) should give us "(quote), but the reverse is Maj sense + 2 gives me" (quote) and shift +' (apostrophe) gives me @

Any solution for that to be corrected.
    What should I do?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hey Buddy

Don t worry, it s not a serious problem ;)
It seems that you keyboard language settings don't match the keyboard layout.

You can solve this problem very easily by changing the language settings in the control panel-> Regional Options control & language-> language-> details tab

I guess that you keyboard language settings are set to English * (UK) * '. '.
But maybe you should choose an English * (US) * to assign the right signals to the single keyboard keys.

    Check it out ;)

  • change the key photo in faces

I use the Photo App in OS X El Capitan. I can't find the instructions that explain how to change the key in faces photo online. The instructions I was able to locate show 1) go to Photos, 2) go to the faces, 3), go to a particular face, 4) find a picture of this face that you want to be the key photo, 5) select which photo by hovering over it with the mouse by pressing the space bar.

Does not work. Is there another way?

Do a right click or Ctrl-click on the photo and choose to make the Photo of key in the menu, or highlight the photo and use SHIFT-command-K on the keyboard, or highlight the photo and choose to make the Photo key under Image on the menu.

    Hello

Looks like you have poorly defined the keyboard layout.

If you have more than one keyboard layout in Windows 10, you can switch between them by keeping the CTRL key and pressing the SHIFT key

You can also change the layout for your keyboard as shown in the link below.

  • Keyboard key errors

I share a laptop with my partner - when I use the @ key and ' key, they are fine - but when my partner uses it gets "instead of @ and vice versa.

I tried one in now shift + 2 keys together but that worked not - I use Vista system - ideas - thank you dabhandlaw

Looks like your computer is configured for several keyboard layouts and a different language keyboard layout is be loaded or switched to via the keyboard shortcut.

While it is connected under the user account of your partner, open the Control Panel and go to the applet region and language . On the keyboards and languages tab, click Change keyboards. If you only want the United States keyboard layout, select first and then delete all the others listed in the general tab

If you need several keyboard layouts, make sure that U.S. is on the top of the list and go to the tab Advanced settings key change or remove keyboard shortcuts to switch between keyboard layouts by selecting an option by clicking Change Key Sequence.

If you have decided to keep several keyboard layouts, make sure that the Language bar is easily accessible from the Language bar anchored in the taskbar tab is a good setting here. If it is set, the keyboard icon will be present to the left of the Area of Notification (for example system tray) when the Language bar is docked in the taskbar. This allows you to quickly switch between keyboard layouts.

  • Why is-strike (shift-") on my keyboard (@) key? When the other my keyboard is (update 2). __

Why is-strike (shift-") on my keyboard (@) key? When the other my keyboard is (update 2).

    Hi acesdie,

Probably to do with the language of the keyboard. Shift + 2 is the American keyboard. Go to control panel and click the language and region. In the window of the region and language, click the keyboard and languages and then click on the button "change keyboards. What language is in the box 'default language'? If it's in the United Kingdom and you are not in the United Kingdom, then click the Add button and select English (United States). Click the plus (+) next to the English (United States) option and then click on the plus sign (+) next to the option "keyboard". Here you will see a list of the types of keyboards, i.e. the United States Dvorak, Dvorak to the United States for the left hand, etc. If you have a keyboard to type Dvorak, then select one of them; If this isn't the case, then I suggest to choose the United States (international) or simply WE. Then click on the arrow to the right of the box in the section "default input language" and select English (United States), and then click apply then OK.

  • HP 14 Chromebook product # F0H08UA keyboard keys digital 1 to 4 and 7 to 0 do not work

HP 14 Chromebook product # F0H08UA keyboard not working keys numbered 1 to 4 and 7 to 0. Awkward layout that I use some of these numbers for my password. Problem started on 15-07-14. Has worked as intended in the AM but now do not register this PM. The method of entry on the screen works but not the keyboard! All other keyboard keys seem to work as expected. No error message and no recent changes to this 14 Chromebook. This could be the cause of this problem?

Chromebook is sent to HP for repair. The unit was still under warranty. HP has replaced what they call the "top Assembly' 743681-001 part number. I guess that is the plastic piece, the keyboard is surrounded and the keyboard itself. My 'Top House' OE still had stickers attached when I bought the Chromebook. The replaced "top Assembly had no stickers.

The repair process was painless for me other than being without my Chromebook for about a week. HP sent a box with pre-paid shipping by Fedex. Since the repair my Chromebook worked well.
