Character set of database and the national character set?

Hi all

I'm sorry if the question is stupid.

why we need a so-called "national character set"?, I think it's important to keep the consistency of the character set, and this thing "national character set" really confuses me.

in my opinion, if you are in English speaking countries, use ASCII coding such as your database character set, if not, just use you UNICODE, everything should be good, why?

Thanks in advance.

For Oracle Database, database character set is for the data types CHAR, VARCHAR2 and national character set to NCHAR, NVARCHAR2, and NCLOB and CLOB. Please read http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10729/ch6unicode.htm#CACHCAHF.

  • Database and the listener is not discovered by EM12cR2

    Hello

    I installed EM12cR2 on Linux and have the SGD host monitored as a target, as well as 20 other targets on the same server. I would now like to get an instance of EBS showing as a target, so I followed the [EBS Management Pack Guide | http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/doc.121/e28715/T508706T588991.htm] on how to do it and in summary, what I've done so far is:

    1 installed the agent on the new Linux host where EBS.
    2 deploy the plugin EBS on WHO and ensured that the EBS, RDBMS, and FMW plugins are deployed on the agent in 1. above.

    The result is that I can see the new host and the agent installed on show as targets, but it has not detected the database running on the host computer. Until I can get to find out the database of the EBS Vision I can't not to discover the rest of the EBS.

    So I then tried to manually add the target using 'Add nonhost target Using guided process (also Adds related targets)', but when I specify the host and let it autodetect, it is still unable to find the database. There is another option "Add nonhost targets by specification followed target properties" that allows me me to be more specific about the location of the database and provide details for connection etc, but I could not try it but as I do not have values in all the fields so I'll need to go and see them.

    I was just wondering if I was missing something important here in why he is unable to automatically detect the database and the earpiece on the new host?

    Thank you very much.

  • Question about the game database and the UNICODE character

    Hello

    My current database character is: WE8MSWIN1252. Change the current database character set is not an option, so I have to create a new db for this requirement.

    My question is:
    (1) how to ensure that "databases must be created using the UNICODE database"?

    (2) to take care of character, I'll use in the database creation script:

    "

  • A SCN for the entire database and the different SNA for the data files?

    DB Version: 11 g

    I always thought that there is a unique SCN for the database as a whole.
    A quote from the link below as
    When a control point is completed, Oracle stores the RCS individually in the control for each data file file
    http://www.dbapool.com/articles/1029200701.html

    What does that mean? There is a SNA for the entire database, and there are individual SCN for each data files?

    Well, unfortunately, the article says more bad than good things. Or if I can't call them wrong, they are rather confusing and rather than clear things for the reader, its making them appear to look more confused.

    First things, YVERT is used for read consistency (CR) mechanism and the backbone of the notion of Multiversioning. The control point is the mechanism to help that recovery is decided. Contrary to what said article, not any kind of checkpoints update both the data file and the control file, and also, there is not a type of them as well. In addition, the article says that the LAST_CHECKPOOINT is set to NULL, while its actually set to the infinity since it is not possible to detect the moment when the database is opened, that the last issue of control over the file would be. In the case of complete control point, this number is saved and is also associated with the toa Controlfile own database leader at the next startup. If this is not the case, there is an inconsistency in the stop_checkpoint of the data file and the stop_checkpoint reocrded in the control file, leading to a recovery of the instance.

    There are several types of control points. Similarly, there are several types of SNA as well. Without going into the details of these, IMO, the article simply means that when the control point write over a file passes, oracle updates the file checkpoint on it and this is recorded in the Controlifle. as well.

  • RMAN duplicate for standby the active database and the missing data files

    We have a car of 2 node ASM 11 GR 2 and 11.1 of database and a standby with ASM also. Our database is relatively low (300 GB)

    and in one recent event the day before was such a departure from the primary that we decided to "repopulate" the data using duplicate RMAN.

    I deleted the data files of the previous day and followed the Oracle documentation to duplicate a database. In the waiting

    I created a static listener and a pfile containing only the essential information (db_unique_name). I started the day before with nomount using the 'empty' pfile.

    I run RMAN, connected to the target and ancillary catalogues and run this command:

    run {
    allocate channel prmy1 type disk;
    allocate channel prmy2 type disk;
    allocate channel prmy3 type disk;
    allocate channel prmy4 type disk;
    allocate channel prmy5 type disk;
    allocate auxiliary channel stby1 type disk;
    duplicate target database for standby from active database nofilenamecheck;
    }

    RMAN duplication completed without errors, so I started the rescue database and got

    an error saying that datafile XXX is missing. I checked XXX datafile at the primary level

    and it is in a DISCONNECTED state. In the standby database the same data file is in the online state.

    So I think the problem is that during the duplication, RMAN (as documentation States) does not work

    Copy the files of data in offline mode, but the standby control file seem to think that these data files

    are online and should be present.

    Can someone please help me solve this problem? From my understanding, I could just copy the missing persons

    data files (there are many however) and in the standby go offline, but I don't think it's

    the right solution, edit this file for control of the standby? I would add another option

    in the RMAN script?

    Take the data file in offline mode on the site of the previous day.

    I don't think that two COPIES try to manage separately offline files.

  • issues of database and the remote password (Connector/J)

    I am creating a Java desktop app and I'm having a few problems. I use to use Java with mysql connector/J.

    First of all it is possible, a desktop application, to access a MySQL database stored on a Web host?

    Secondly, I have to distribute and install the driver Connector/J with my program?

    I mean, how the hell do I keep my password of database safely within the program? If the Java code can be easily decompiled then surely anyone with a little knowledge of Java could find my database password in my source code? Even if stored in a separate and encrypted file, probably the location and encryption method must be stored in the source code?

    Thanks, Jim

    Hello

    If the host is accessible via the public IP address or some kind of proxy, then I see no problem. You just need to create a connection string correctly.

    Of course, there is a need to distribute the driver with the application. Otherwise how do you imagine your application running without the necessary libraries?

    Store the password db is a bit more complicated. Even if it's encrypted a specific user will always manage to get it. For the same reason, distribute a desktop app with a password for db stored inside, is not a good idea. I suggest you write a proxy server little. Desktop applications will connect to the server that will access the DB. The proxy will query the DB and return the result in a response, it is much easier to secure the password in this way.

    The desktop application should also be a connect/disconnect feature to prevent access to unauthorized users.

  • Adding a contact to the database and the drop-down box does not list the provinces

    Hey everybody,

    Was wondering if you ever came across this... we have someone who is to manually enter a contact and got to the State or the Province drop down.  There is no province listed in there... everyone has added provinces?  How did you handle this.  Looks like an easy question, but found nothing on this subject...

    Thank you!

    Thanks Chris... put up a deal and they said the same thing... Thank you!... by support

    Currently, the State or Province in your default Contact point of view is mapped to the Contact status field.

    As per the attached screenshot, the Contact of State field using values from the selection of Siebel billing US State list.

    So that you can either change the selection list of Siebel of billing to one of:

    State or Province

    State or Province - 19/07/2010 14:18:28

    State or Province - 2010-08-18 14:29:07

    You should go and confirm these select lists have the correct value, or you can change to Siebel billing list to include the provinces.

    You can access lists of selection to evaluate-> data tools-> of installation-> Setup data-> select manage lists.

  • How can I retrieve the name of the server and the database to a system dsn

    Hello

    I am trying to create a database that will be used by many stores. Each store has its own server and the database and the access runtime version. I want to create a system dsn name, but allowing the administrator to modify the server and the database for that dsn and then, when you connect to the database, the database must be able to find this DSN and the 'new' name of the server and name of 'new' database and connect to point to this server and the database tables. I don't have a login form and I can get the name of the dsn, but I can't find a way to get the server name and database name for that dsn. Does anyone know a way to retrieve this from the registry. I can see it using regedit but have no idea on how to get this in vba access.
