Character vs drop cap style paragraph style

I guess that I do not understand the character styles and having problems with them carrying through when I don't want them.

I created a called the body text paragraph style. I then created a paragraph called style, first paragraph, which is the same as the body of the text except that it uses one style character drop cap, which is a different color and melting.

When I apply the body text of a paragraph, it works fine. However, if I apply the first paragraph, but changed my mind and apply the body of the text, I can't get rid of different color and the police of the drop cap. In fact, it apply this character style to the whole paragraph.

Of course, I did something wrong. Any clue?

I think you're on the right track, but you have made some bad decisions. First of all, you want your style of bodywork with your first paragraph style to be the same, with the exception of the drop cap. It can be useful if you were to remove the first paragraph style and then make a new copy of the body style, rename it, first paragraph and make it based on body style. Simply change the appearance of the drop cap number of characters and lines you want.

You want not any formatting local on paragraphs, so the first thing to do is to select the first two paragraphs and click the style of body while pressing the Option key (Mac, maybe the Alt key if you are using Windows). This will apply the paragraph style of the body with no local replacement (the style). Then claire on character styles by selecting no style in the palette styles of character (while the two paragraphs are always selected with the text tool).

Now, click in the first paragraph and select the first paragraph style. It should look the same as the body style, but have a drop cap. At this point, if you want a different font, bold/italic, color, etc., you can start thinking about a character style. You will apply the character style in the portion of the paragraph style initials, and it will effect only the number of characters that you specified for the drop cap.

Make a new character style and only define the perameters that you want to be different. For example, if you want time to your basic fonts and italic foie gras for the drop cap, set font Style in the Formats section of basic characters of the character in Bold Italic Style palette, but leave the empty police. In this way, if you decide later than Helvetica as standard paragraph font, you will not be left with a drop cap times bold italic character (instead of this, bold and italic are going to stay, but they will on Helvetica).

So, you have a character style and a paragraph style. Just set the character style to the drop cap in the paragraph style, first paragraph, (its just beside the number of characters and lines). You can then switch back between the body and the first paragraph without the problem you are having now.

EDIT: I just had another thought. Your paragraph styles contain nested styles?

  • drop cap rule

In layouts of book, and if the first character on the new copy of body of page chapter is a quotation mark vs a letter? -I guess I apply the drop cap style/technique at a time. Visually, it seems to look pretty good. But what is the rule in this case?

    Thank you!

There is a convention cited in different style guides which in this case

the opening quote is omitted. Good luck for this past your

editors. I never got to. visually, this is probably the best solution.

Instead, I reduce the opening quote to the almost regular text size and

then-vertical offset upward while he sits in a visually acceptable

Spot. Some kerning may also be necessary.

For me, this rarely works to place in the full-drop cap format. I guess what it

    might according to the police.

  • Matter of style re: color of the drop cap, the rest of the text in black

Hello... I'm trying to achieve this result by using character paragraph styles / nested:

    Instead, that's what I mean:

    12-22-2010 10-20-11 PM.jpg

I have a paragraph with a nested character style style. The paragraph style specifies the point of using a drop cap with 4 lines. The nested character style tells the paragraph to the first three words in a special font and some red CMYK color. But I can't understand how to tell the style also put the drop cap in the same color. Help!

    Thank you.

the character of the dropcap style there red color value itself?

PARK style of paragraph for a moment, go to the style of CHARACTERS assigned to the dropcap letter and look at the options. Look at the color of the text and see if it is red or not.

  • Drop cap 2nd or 3rd character

How can I make a drop cap for the 2nd or 3rd character at the beginning of a paragraph?

First, make a new paragraph style. Then apply drop cap for the first two or three characters:

Then with the first two characters selected, adjust their size and baseline shift to go back to the normal font size and position (you should probably use guides to make it as specific as possible):

When you qualify, make a new Style of character using the characters selected as a model:

Return to the Options of paragraph Styles dialog box, and then in "Drop caps and nested Styles" add a new nested Style that applies the new Style of character for the first two characters:

Finally, you can apply your paragraph for new paragraphs style you like.

  • Align the drop cap at the bottom of the paragraph

I'm designing a model in InDesign and our chapter start may include a certain number. That is to say. "1 it's header. Sometimes the header will be 2 lines and sometimes the other.

I want the number to be BIG and you want to, my text base line up to be a line or 2.

The drop cap function or create a character style that makes this large number causes still my text align to the TOP of the number.

    Any ideas?

    Here's another thought.

Use a nested style to get your large enough number, then put on your text between a larger and a smaller one for the number text box for the rest of the cuff.

It is always a single line, but by setting both of your text boxes to align to the bottom, you can get the alignment you need.

  • Paragraph drop cap numbers

Is it possible to implement the paragraph for the style as a drop cap numbers?

I have reports that they most often require the paragraph numbers. These are all configured as numbered lists, but I'd like to try something different and to display as a drop cap of 3 line.

I tried all sorts of stuff style but can't seem to make it work. Anyone know if this is possible?

    Thank you

Jongware, I'm sorry too, but we are wrong!

YOU can perform automatic numbering and drop cap together! So obvious! [I am very tired right now!  ]

All we need is a little regex:

  • Drop cap in the first paragraph only...

    Hi all

I found what looks like the solution to this, but it does not work (making it not a solution).

in any case, I've created two paragraph styles ('First paragraph Style' and 'Paragraph Style'). "First paragraph Style" I put the drop cap, and I put "Next Style" (under 'general') 'Paragraph Style' (who has not a setting of the drop cap, or rather the settings by default ie. 0 rows, etc.).

The catch: I apply the paragraph Style first to my text and... all paragraphs will have a drop cap, as defined in the first paragraph Style. Major sadness!

    Any ideas?

    Thank you very much!

    -steve

You must right click on the first paragraph Style and then choose apply "paragraph Style" then next Style.

The only solution I know is copy and paste attributes.

  • Drop cap problem

When text in TextFrame is aligned to reference and updated level on the scale - drop cap becomes too high and hangs on the text. Is this a bug in InDesign or I missed something?

Is it possible to have the "n" move on to the more close to the drop cap without affecting the second line?

There is something to do what you want.

    1. Click on your Type tool between the drop cap and the letter 'n'.
    2. Right-click and choose Insert special character > other > Non-Joiner
    3. Set the kerning value. (Where the arrow is in the screenshot below)

I found a PDF Online where the designer has used large drop caps on a number of occasions that are highlighted.

Obviously this is not technically difficult, I can add an underline in the character Panel, but underscore appears above the line of text below.

In the case of the original example, not only the line of text below appears as underscore on the drop cap, the adjacent text to the right of the drop cap is perfectly aligned with the bottom of the letter drop IMP and the underscore, as if everything is settled on the baseline. How is - this made both acurately?
