Check if a GPIB device is turned on

Hi all.  Fairly new to LabVIEW, to be understanding.  I searched and searched for a solution for what must be a very common problem, so I must be mssing something very simple.

I am writing a vi to control up to three units GPIB.  The problem is that they will not be lit permanently, and people fly for other platforms (sometimes they even give them back, occasionally with their address unchanged GPIB).

The thing is, I don't want the vi user to rely on all units being there, with the right address GPIB specified and put on the market.

I know that LabVIEW will give me an error 14, put an end to execution, if she does not see a unit at a given address, but this seems surprisingly gross and I would rather deal with the error in other ways (disable the part of the measure, giving an error message etc. - details to be defined!).

Then... How can I check that there is a GPIB device turned on at the specific address without sending a command that triggers the same error (for example, error 14) program that I try to avoid?

Everything works fine when all units are powered on and properly addressed.

I am very vague about what is VISA (or if it is still relevant to this question) and have in it (and will not if I have to).  I just used "GPIB write" and "read GPIB" functions.  I would like a minimum of jargon, please.

Thank you all!

Andy

You need to disable the automatic error handling (Tools > Options > block diagram) and the wire to the top of the error in/out of clusters. A Unbundle by name you will get the error code.

This is a simple error handler that displays a message. If this error occurs, I put the next State (you use a state machine, aren't you?) to test the connection.

You should probably take the LabVIEW tutorial to get a better understanding of the error in/out cluster.

  • Verification of GPIB devices

    Hello

I have a code that sends a "* IDN? GPIB addresses 1 to 31, if I get a response to the motion, I guess there is a GPIB device address. This approach gets watered until when I have a GPIB instrument does does support/recognize the * IDN? query.   However, MAX is able to recognize that there is a GPIB device to the address of the instrument I have. Ideas of how recognize/detect if a GPIB device exist if it does not meet a * IDN?

Use the function of the same name on the Instrument i/o > GPIB > palette 488.2.

  • Can't control RS232 and GPIB devices simultaneously with labview.

    Hi all

I have a thermostat that has a RS232 to my computer connection and a counter from the source which has a GPIB to my computer USB connection.

I have screws that allow me to control each device separately. But when I did a VI to fight them together that I can communicate with the GPIB device, but not with the RS232 device. I think that the VISA GPIB and RS232 VISA having a problem to determine this.

Do you know what I could try to fix this?

  • I decided to change to a fixed IP address, but I was told to check first our intruder devices

original title * search for the intruder

Hello, in the last month, we have every time new problems of sending e-mails with attachments, particularly to the Hotmail and G-mail accounts. The emails simply cannot, without any error message. Reason is that I think that we are on the blacklist every time again. I decided to change to a fixed IP address, but I was told to check first our intruder devices that can use our computers. My question is: How can I do this?

    Hi HelenPeterse,

Thanks for posting your query on the Microsoft Community.

Are you still facing the question to send Emails?

    1) go to your user accounts and see if there is all unknown accounts that are administrator. If so, delete the accounts. Make sure that you have an administrator account that you created and change the password if you are the only person who knows the password.
Then, remove all the accounts that you are not familiar with or don't want on your computer. Do not remove a network Service or Local Service account.
Do not delete the account administrator, or system or comments. However, you can disable the guest account.

    (2) change your passwords every day until you know you're is more compromised.

    (3) right click on the taskbar and open the tasks to the top manager. Go to the users tab. There you can see if there are other users logged on to your computer. If you are not familiar with users, select the account and disconnect the user.

    (4) get your computer course before you go out on the internet. Only to connect to the internet when necessary. You can disable your router if you are not on your computer.
If you use wireless, make sure that you use the most secure authentication type.
Change the passwords on routers as most ships with a password. Change the router password so that no one else has the password. Check with the documentation for the router on how to change your password.

Hope this information helps and if you have interviewed more associated with Windows do not hesitate to post on Microsoft Community we will be happy to help you.

  • GPIB device found, but not reognized

    Hello

On a remote system, I have HP 3458 A and temperature control of Lake Shore 331 connected on GPIB. I installed a PCI-6259 OR on the remote system, as well as the NI VISA 4.2 and 11 in real-time. Also, I installed two devices instrument drivers on my local computer.

With the help of VISAIC, I am able to see the two devices however, I am only able to use the HP 3458. The LS 331 GPIB address is incomplete; It's visa: / / [IP] / GPIB0::INTFC while the HP 3458 has is visa: / / [IP] / GPIB0:22: INSTR

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

I tried running the * idn to the device and I do not know what is the game of 331. However, it turned out that the GPIB cable going to the unit I tried to communicate with was a shame (not exactly how) and he began to communicate when I tried to use another GPIB cable.

Everything is good. Thank you for your time.

  • Cannot use my GPIB device with labview

    Hi all

I installed my GPIB card, but now I am facing another issue. When I try to import device recognized by Visia (photo 1) it does not appear.

My device is a function tektroniks generator. I just need 2 functions: change of frequency, type of wave and amplitude. Any help will be appreciated.

    Concerning

Tektronix adapter?  I think you should go to your NI-VISA software section MAX.  Then under Options of VISA, there is a section for passports.  I'm fairly certain you need to activate the Tulip passport.

  • Find resources VISA does not display my USB/GPIB device

    Hello

I'm using LabView 8.0 with MAX 4.2.1.3001. I try to communicate with a former HP8563E Spectrum Analyzer with a GPIB to USB with VISA vi device nothing helps. When you try to find any valid VISA device with the vi 'VISA find resource' no device is returned. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

    -Chris

Finally, I'll be back around him and the VISA drivers were not installed. This me baffled because in the latest versions of LabView, as 6.0, screws requiring some drivers (like writing serial port) were not available unless the associated drivers have been installed. Perhaps this philosophy has changed in more recent versions. In any case, thanks for your help

  • Application of CLDC cause the power of the device is turned off.

    Hello

One met this problem, when the execution of my application and for a while, the device has been turned off automatically. I tested several times, always happens, happens on dperipherique (not on the Simulator), the so I can't debug.

My application is a SNS client it's network connection (http) and persist the data on the device, of course, the user interface to display the data.

I think there is a mistake in my application caused the device to be off power (only slide off the battery voltage may start the device again). Anyone have any idea what could cause this?

    Thanks in advance.

    MoWriter

OK, it seems apparent to the bad battery. Even thoug, it showed there is 1/3 battery, when some app run (not my own application), it would be off.

If I plug the charger while test, then no power offshore.

  • Whenever I wrote something on Firefox, it is used to check the spelling. But now Firefox doesn't check spelling. How can I turn it back on?

Firefox used to check the spelling on everything I wrote. But since the upgrade to version 10.0.2, I don't see no Redline under the wrong words and no suggestion of spelling when I right click on the words.

When you type something like these messages, right click, then select check spelling. You can also enable the option in the Advanced menu panel - accessibility, navigation, network, updates and other settings in advanced Firefox

You probably already have the required dictionary (if you do a regular upgrade, Firefox should not change language version) otherwise, see https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/language-tools/

  • A GPIB device playback

I tried to make a driver for the 181 keithley but got frustrated way, then I'm gone with the method of MacGyver thinking this would be much simpler, but I still have problems.

My 'GPIB write' function works like a charm, the GPIB address is 5, and to interpret the great big chain (in case you are interested) here's what mean all the letters/numbers.

    X initializes communication

T0 - affects continues in talk mode

    M0 - defines SRQ OFF

    R2 - affects my range to 20mV

B1-tours on the Hi Res mode

P1 - sets the filter off

    D0 - disables the depreciation

The problem is that something goes wrong with reading GPIB or Fract/Exp chain to the number, and I can't get out the measure.

5 is the GPIB address again (and is correct, because the upper part works very well)

The value 0 is the mode which is the default

and 14 is the number of bytes to read.

My guess is either "14" needs to be a different number (did this question?  If I said to read more bytes, then the resulting string is in fact, not only will extra zeros?)

I use a function badly, either read GPIB or Fract/exp chain number necessarily be replaced by another function GPIB.

    Hello kaungmyathein,

At what point do we see this error and what it exactly is the syntax?

Often we see odd behavior as the result of a program from loading at startup.

To solve these, we use the clean boot troubleshooting.

My widget is running in the Simulator, but when I sign and deploy on a physical device I get:

When I got the above error I then used the /s option that bbwp.exe would leave the source generated in place and then used JDE 5.0 beta 2 to generate the .cod file. Same result however.

Tim Neil said in another thread that this error occurs with the first versions of the 5.0 OS. However, my Storm running an official version.
