CHKDSK error (step 4)

I ran chkdsk and it froze at the beginning of step 4 (phase of verification of files)

only way to restart the laptop was to remove the battery.

Program you your chkdsk to run on the next reboot of the system or you did run it from the Recovery Console?

I prefer to run chkdsk from the Recovery Console so I can watch him run and see the results and decide what to do next based on the results.

You're just running chkdsk for practice or some problem?

If chkdsk get to stage 4 What does it mean /f or /r switch has been used either by checking the options in XP or a manual opening.

During step 4, chkdsk will attempt to read and verify every sector on the volume and remap and mark as being defective any problem areas.

A chkdsk/r can take a long time to complete depending on speed of your machine, the size of the volume, the number of files on the volume, and the number of problems found/fixed.  It might work in a few minutes, it could take hours, or it could take days.

If you run a chkdsk f, which will take even more time and is accompanied by a special reminder of Microsoft:

A chkdsk can take a long time to complete or they seem to be "stuck".  Be patient.  If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

WARNING: When Chkdsk detects problems with the file system and trying to repair the damage, data loss may occur.  Microsoft does not recommend running Chkdsk with the /f command-line switch unless you have a full backup of your hard drive. (paying attention to the Micrsosoft wornings

I don't remember recent memory, see chkdsk hang forever.  He finished either finally or complains and is abandoned.  It's a risk to interrupt during step 4 or 5 steps.

If you think it does not really catch, you should get your hard drive manufacturer's hard drive diagnosis and test your drive because it does not respect.  If you do not know the manufacturer of your hard drive, you can understand.

If chkdsk is run in your sytem reboot, the results will be in the event viewer, so you can look out there and see what happened.

When chkdsk runs automatically restart either because XP thinks he needs to (perhaps your NTFS volume has been marked as dirty of something as a power failure) or you chose to run it yourself, the results appear in the viewing Application event log.  You should look there for the chkdsk log and no problems after running chkdsk.

To view the logs in Event Viewer, click Start, settings, Control Panel, administrative tools, event viewer.

A shortcut to the event viewer is to click on start, run and enter in the box:

%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc

Click OK to launch the event viewer.

Search the Application log for an event originally by Winlogon, something like:

I bought this HP4540s in nine late 2013 and out of the box I started noticing errors CHKDSK.  Never, has crashed or hung from a few mistakes that were always repairable, system went very well, no problems of speed, etc..  Scans of the complete area of the donnГ (Hitichi 750gig, 7200 RPM) HDD, zero Issus with the reader.  A few months later, I removed a SSD of Sandisk Pro 256gig older DV6000 laptop which has worked perfectly and cloned the installation disc in the 4540 s.  After installation, the same thing began to happen, except worse.  About once a day, 12-16 h continuous operation the system will become insensitive, SSD/HDD light lights up at 100% for about a minute and then turns off.  A minute or so later, I either get a BSOD or re-boot system itself and then try to connect to a DHCP source, most likely because the BIOS can't see the SSD.  A second power button (4) it turns off then turn it back on I get the windows was closing incorrctly screen and I just choose Start Windows normally and everything is OK, but usually, but not always I still errors CHKDSK and sometimes damaged, files until I had to reinstall the applications.  The HDD and SSD run perfectly on other computers.  I'm starting to wonder if I have a problem with the main channel of SATA or a chipset problem I want to solve this problem before the warranty expires and it turns out that I need a motherboard replaced.  Someone at - it advice/tests I can try on this thing for this track.  It is slowly eating my files away next day (yes I have 6 months, image files on the disc recorded in the case where and create new ones often but probably backup of files damaged at this point - has found an old pdf file yesterday, which has been altered - thank God for image files).  I have not tried a 3rd disc because I do not see since the (2) I work with work very well in other machines and test perfectly wise sector.  The problem gets worse as you push harder data on primary SDD/HDD.  Some mornings, I'll get put into hibernation and it will crash in minutes (not associated with heat it), restart it and its OK for the day, maybe later down in the evening but usually once a day, very intermittent but always reproducible.  No excessive processor, in fact zero not problems with the thing when its work; system is lightening fast with the SSD, but mistakes happen more often then with a tray more that points me again to a chipset or problem Channel SATA SSD can load the SATA channel so much harder than the flat disc never could.  Also, just an observation, the question seems more prevelent in operations that remove a large number of files such that empty the collector recycled with a couple of hundreds of files in the trash.  I have 2 of these laptops 4540 s, the other is my wife and it is basically the same cycle.  I saw not a single error CHKDSK on this laptop so far.  The only difference in the machines is it has a 750gig 7200 RPM WD Black HDD.  Also, I have an external drive 1 terabyte 7200rmp on one of the 24/7 port USB3 who reads/writes concerts and gigs of data per day (media center activity - recording DVR units) and there has NEVER been a CHKDSK error or however it's storage only, no OS.  There is no heat problem at all.  The CPU even with Media Center HD recording is less than 10% with CPU @ 1.2gig clock, in other words, a fast idle.  The system also works in office extended with a second large LCD.

    Thanks in advance

  • CHKDSK ERROR

DELL GX620 - BOUGHT SECOND HAND MODEL - REFERENCE HAS WORKED OK, UNPLUGGED UNIT, ADDED A CHIP OF ADDITIONAL MEMORY AND A DVD PLAYER.  HAS RECEIVED THE CHKDSK ERROR, UNPLUGGED THE UNIT AND REMOVED THE TWO ELEMENTS, ALWAYS GET THE CHKDSK ERROR.   I TRIED 100 DIFFERENT THINGS.  COULD NOT GET A PROMPT TO TYPE IN WHAT IT IS.  NEED TO UNPLUG EACH TIME TO RESTART.

    Hello

    1. could you give me the chkdsk error that meets?

    Method 1.
First of all I ask you to run the check disk in the recovery console and check. See the articles below that explain how to install and use the recovery console. The second article explains how to run the disk check.

    Method 2.
So I ask you to check with your computer manufacturer if you have the right type of additional memory you are trying to use.

    I hope this helps.

  • Windows 7 Ultimate computer seems to have stopped, head HD not seeking chkdsk errors

Last week, I look at a the news on Youtube.  Turned away from the computer, came back and heard a strange clicking noise.  I listened closer and could hear the hard drive heads look back.  It sounded as if the head arm was moving inside the trays and then swing to the outside several times.

Click on the reset button and the computer would not start, error says no bootable disk found.  Turned off the computer, went to retrieve another new drive and create a bootable stick from my WHS server.  Come back I would try once more thought, and the started computer.  A ran Chkdsk with the option of scanning and repair bad sectors.  He found a no mistake.  A few days later the computer slowed to almost a complete stop, (non-response) error in the program I was using (Firefox).  A ran chkdsk once more on the C drive and found 24 index who needed compensation, but that it has been.

It is an i7 2600K cpu @ 3.40 ghz 3.39 Ghz, 16 GB ram, and two 3.5 "HGST (Hitachi/Western Digital) drive 500 GB which is about 5 years old now.

Even if Chkdsk reports no errors, I always suspect that the drive has failed.  As I looked at the scan of glomeruli that it suspended or 20 seconds in two places.  First to around 1100 groups then back to 14 000 clusters.

I have a new Seagate drive custom quality company.  The chkdsk seems to mitigate the problems, but I know now that I'm running on a ragged edge and she will soon be a serious failure.

I suspect it's the same story horror IBM-Hitachi again.  Readers are not mounted tight, there is a lot of space around them.  I don't think overheating is the problem.

    Your contribution is appreciated.

    Hi Donald,.

Please answer these questions to better understand the issue.

    1. What is Windows 7 connected to Windows Home Server?
    2. Is the computer on the domain or server network?

You can deal with this problem due to the hardware failure.  Looks like a bad impact on the hard drive. If it is under warranty, save and send it for repair. (If the computer is under warranty, send it - withdrawal of the drive will void the warranty.) If it is not under warranty, reinstall the drive (after saving).

Make sure you do, save it before he gets defective.

There are two hard disk problem physical and non-physical. If your hard drive sound like it, its may damage on your hard drive. First of all, you should be do is keep and back up your data and then remove those hard with the new drive. Do not use again this type of hard drive that will cause the problem in the future.

Follow the steps in this Microsoft KB article and check if that helps:

    Crashes Windows or freezes

Antivirus warning: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

  • CHKDSK error after replacing screen

    Hi all

I have an old T60, I am preparing to give to my mother. To get this loan, I have replaced the screen SXGA + dead with a XGA almost nine. Everything went well, the new screen is beautiful and probably better for my mother, since there res more weak and so large icons. However, after that I turned it back on, I continued to get a message at startup saying that one of the disks should be checkd, and he then started very well.

I try to run chkdsk two or three times, and he acted like he had to do, but after a few seconds he said "chkdsk cancelled" and started normally. I went into the BIOS and run the drive test utility, but it doesn't give me any errors or problems, it just say something like "the disk was read" after a few hours.

If this could have something to do with the new screen? If the driver for the old screen is originally a mistake because the new screen is a different resolution?

    Thank you.

    Thank you for your response.

I ended up reinstalling Windows. In this way, it will be a new installation without any problem. No problems so far - the installation went well, and I am just running all the updates. I'll try to run chkdsk once everything is up to date.

I want to thank you for taking the time to answer. Best.

  • CHKDSK ERROR NO FREESPACE

My freespace went from 7G to 176K from one day to the next. I ran CHKDSK in read-only mode and after completing the verification of the index, chkdsk stopped and the error message "CHKDSK" cannot continue in read-only mode. "This leads me to KB Article ID: 891189: you receive an error message if you run Chkdsk.exe on a Windows Server 2003 quorum disk" which had an associated error fix. When I went to download the fix, it seemed that it was for a different problem and warned that if iI performed the fix for a different problem, this could damage my computer. Do anyone know how I can diagnose my exact problem and if there are patches I can ask. I have a Sony VAIO A190 with a home edition of WINDOWS XP purchased in 2004.

You can create more free space in C in carrying one of the measures suggested below.

The default allocation for the restoration of the system is 12% on your C partition is more generous. I have them would be reduced by 700 MB. Make my computer right click on your icon, and select System Restore. Place the cursor on your C drive select settings but this time find the slider and drag it to the left until it shows 700 MB and output. When you get to the settings screen, click on apply and OK and leave.

A flaw that might be useless which is for temporary internet files, especially if you keep no copies on the disk offline. Setting the default value is 3% of the walk. Depending on your attitude to copies offline, you could bring it to 1% or 2%. In Internet Explorer, select Tools, Internet Options, general, temporary Internet files, settings to make the change. At the same time, look at the number of days, the story stands.

The default allocation for the basket is 10% of the disk. Change to 5%, which should be enough. In Windows Explorer hover over your Recycle Bin, right click and select Properties, Global and move the slider from 10% to 5%. However, try to let you become so complete that if it is complete and you delete a file by mistake it will bypass the Recycle Bin and have gone forever.

If your drive is formatted as NTFS another potential gain arises with your operating system on your C drive. In the Windows directory of your C partition you will some uninstall files in your Windows folder in general: $NtServicePackUninstall$ and $NtUninstallKB282010$ etc. These files can be compressed or not compressed. If compressed text the name of the folder appears in blue. If these files are not compressed you can compress. Right-click on each folder and select Properties, general, advanced, and check the box before you compress contents to save disk space. On the general tab, you can see the winning amount by deducting the size on disk size. File compression is only an option on an NTFS formatted disk partition / partition.

    Hello Mitcherator777,

You can connect to your computer in normal mode or only in safe mode?

It would be the best way to run the Chkdsk command:

1 disable any security software before you attempt to upgrade or do a clean install.
    2. make sure that your computer is updated (devices and applications)
    3. disconnect all external devices before installing.
    4. check your hard disk for errors:
    Click Start
Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD
    Click on "Run as Administrator"
At the command prompt, type: chkdsk /f /r
When you restart your system, your computer will be scanned for errors and will try to correct them.

Let us know the status of your question.

    Thank you

  • No approvers found several approvers causes error step

    Hello

I have an approval process in two simple steps for ePerformance documents.  The first step is a senior reviewer approver; The approver is the Manager of the person presenting the assessment of the employee.  The second and final step is a review of the Department.  Examiners from the Department are generated by a list of users based on a query.

I just experienced a bad situation in which the list of users based on a query to the examiners of the Department didn't all approvers.  This resulted in a step to generated error as shown below.  The disturbing part is that the step of the generated error had several approvers specified in it.  In my case, it was about 500 approvers in this group - basically all of the supervisors in my organization.  Worse still, the assessment became available in the pages of the approval status view for all of these supervisors, resulting in a privacy issue.  Can someone tell me why this happened?  I have not an event On Error set up for this approval process - could this be the reason?  I tried to return the evaluation through the monitor approvals page, but which does not seem to remove it from all pages view the approval status of the supervisors.  The only thing that seemed to work was reopening the assessment and then have the new shipment of Manager evaluation.

If I'm missing something in my configuration which can help me to avoid this situation in the future, I would like to know what it is.  Thanks for any help you can provide!

    NoApproversFound.png

Hi, could check you who are the users with the * Admin role indicated in your workflow in main menu > Set Up HCM > common definitions > approvals > setting up the approval process? I think that all of these 500 users belong to this role.

  • Backup fails with an error of device 0 x 807812.

Backup fails with an error of device 0 x 807812. I tried a disk of 1 TB of my book and a Seagate 1 TB Western Digital. Both failed with the same error. The system says that I have the most recent and correct drivers. My computer is Deel Latitude 17r.

    Hi James,

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

The error would have occurred if the services associated with Windows backup may have been disabled, you can try to restart the service, follow the steps below:

    1. click on start.

2 type Services in the start search.

    3. in the search for Windows Services of shadow copy Volume in the list.

    4. right click on the Service.

    5. click on properties.

    6. Select the Startup Type to manual.

    7. click on OK.

    8. repeat the same for the service Windows backup.

If the problem persists, then I suggest you run the chkdsk command, which fix chkdsk errors, follow these steps:

    i. Click Start.

II. type cmd in the start search box.

III. right-click on cmd.exe list programs and then select the run as Administrator option.

IV. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.

    v. in the command prompt window, type the following command and press enter Chkdsk /R

VI. o press when you are prompted to check the drive the next time the system restarts.

VII. close all applications and restart the computer.

Important: Running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data may be lost

When you restart, Windows checks the drive for errors, and then Windows starts. Now run the disk check in command prompt, follow the steps below:

Now, when you try to perform the backup, I recommend that you can try to disable the temporary security on the computer software and perform a backup, be sure to activate security in the computer software.

    Disable the antivirus software:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

It seems because you have set the affinity to the Drs storage... You can see Cormac blog about this option:

  • Recycle errors generate other errors

    Hello

I have a question about the ODI standard 10 g IKM and step to "Recycle errors."

Basically, this step add the I$ table table data $ E that does not exist in the I$ table.
But there is no separate provision in the IKM.

For example, if a line has violated 2 constraints or more, it will be rejected 2 times in the table of $ E (which is normal).

Now, during the stage of recycling will occur, it will insert the same line of business 2 times (or more) in I$ table, since there is no distinct clause.
Consequence: the CKM will reject the data due to a violation of PK!

My solution is to add < % = odiRef.getPop ("DISTINCT_ROWS") % > in the SQL statement in the recycling stage.

    Do you agree with that?
I don't have ODI 11 g KM here, can anyone confirm if there is a separate clause in the 11g IKM?

OK, so this has been fixed in ODI g 11 KM.

    Yes... That's right

"And you can also confirm if you don't have that" distinct "in ODI g 10 KM?

ODI 10 g doesn't have that DISTINCT in the error step keyword recycled

  • Error when installing Enterprise 8 Siebel with DB2 and SUSE Linux

    Hi all
We are trying to install Siebel on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 and DB2 V9.7 Fixpack4 8.1.1.5.

When we try to set up company failed to run and we get the following error in sw_cfg_util.log:
    (ossystem.cpp (96) err = 255 sys = 0) SBL-Gen-00255: internal: the exec error)
    Step NameserverDB2EnvStartup: cannot run the program/bin/env with cmdline SIEBEL_UNIXUNICODE_DB = DB2 DB2CLIINIPATH = % SiebelRoot % siebctl - r ODBCINI=%%SiebelRoot%%%OSDirSeparator%%sys%%OSDirSeparator%%.odbc.ini %% SiebelRoot % gtwyns s s - q
Then the execution failed, err: 255

After this error, the gateway server has failed.

Creation of Installation of DB2 and user seems correct.

We tried the configuration with siebel 8.1.1.0 and with 8.1.1.5 both have the same error

    Can anyone help?

    Thank you Angelika

    Angelika,

I found an announcement similar on my oracle support with the same error message in OS SUSA, only different DB platform. Doc-ID 852114.1. The solution is to create a symbolic link for env command under "/ bin" folder from/usr/bin/env as below:

    ln-s/usr/bin/env env

Run above the command as user root of the folder "/ bin".

    It will be useful,
