Choice of hard drive? WD RE3 vs Black

If I wanted a unique additional disk for video editing support and was not intending to RAID for awhile (maybe a long time), is there an advantage to the WD RE3 series on the black series when it runs as a single hard drive? I know the RE3 is best for the RAID, but is also better off alone? The 750 GB RE3 is $ 93 on Amazon, the black 750Go is on sale for $64 Newegg, both are free shipping. 32 MB of cache, etc. are both. As single player, being black lack of any feature or not as reliable I should spring for the RE3?

Partly because of the four discs that have completely failed on me in all my years of computing, three were WDs.

This shows just how different people have different experiences. Out of Seagates (version 1.5 to) 7 5 missed in two months. Apart from that, they are more hot and more noisy than to WD

In addition, other sites that Tom the WD Black constantly surpasses Seagates. Remember, performance differences are small enough to be hardly noticeable in real life. I opted for the Samsung because of the price (with 16 disks, it makes a difference). RE is quite expensive in comparison to blacks, but with a limited number, which may be acceptable. Otherwise, I'd go for blacks for sale currently.

original title: Netbook Windows 7 problem

New computers coming often pre-installed with Windows 7 have what is called a recovery partition. This is used to reinstall an operating system in the case of a system failure. To access it, you need to start when you start your computer by pressing a function key. This can be either F1, F2, F9, F10, F11, F12 key DEL or tab. See the manual that came with your PC for instructions on how to reinstall Windows.

If your recovery partition is not available or damaged, you must contact the manufacturer of your computer, and request that a defined recovery disk you can use to reinstall Windows 7. They could practice a small shipping and handling.

Borrow a 32 bit Genuine Windows 7 friends DVD disc if you know someone who has one.

Make an image of the DVD, you can use a program like ISO Recorder to do.

These are all hard drives barrels, I spoke so far.

My next q is how worse nudes are compared with barrels hard drives?

will be one a naked work of me and my x120e? What is the problem with them anyway?

    Thank you

    Hello

The X120e should work fine with a 2.5 "SATA hard drive or SSD drive 9.5 mm (or less) of height.

From what I remember, internal SATA connector of the X120e works at speeds of SATA-II (3.0Gbps), but you can install a SATA-III (6.0Gbps) drive more quickly and simply the unit will operate at the slower speed.  In addition, the internal hard drive is installed in a metal basket with four small screws Phillips (points) and has rubber bumpers.  Remove the rubber dampers (they are detached by hand without tools), unscrew the old drive from the caddy, install the new drive in the caddy, screw, place the bumper in and then install the new drive in the X120e.

With the hardware Maintenance Manual at hand, it should take you less than 10 minutes to complete the hard drive swap.

    Kind regards

I would like to know which hard drive is the least worth the OS disc & program?

Note: I think to change the hard disk a few months: fist priority must be for which I'll choose WD Velociraptor 150 GB OS drive & program.

What hard drive could scarth and project / media be?

    Thank you

    N. Bauland

For now, it's not really important. All your drives are quite slow for todays standards and your current solution is temporary anyway. When you get a Velociraptor for a startup disk, you will need to do a fresh install anyway. With the i7-970 all your current disks will be the main bottleneck in terms of speed and performance. Given the results from HDTach, I would choose a Seagate for OS & programs at the moment.

It is with hindsight and does not help you, but maybe it will help others. Had you gone for an i7-920, which start with a lower clock speed, you could have gotten a more balanced system using the savings on the CPU for disks more and faster and make your editing the experience more enjoyable.

To see where this new system now is in terms of performance with your old records, run the http://ppbm4.com reference and transmit results to Bill, then repeat until you have the new discs and see what it does to your performance.

  • Help the new choice of hard drive

I want to add another hard drive but don't know what to get. No matter what ATA to choose? (100 150 or 300). I'll get my memory in 6400 DDR2 at 800 mhz and eventually upgrade my processor. Like to go to a Quad core or even the slightest line QX. Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Satellite Pro M70 - what HARD drive can you recommend?

I have Satellite Pro M70 and I have a 60GB HDD that I see what it s SATA 8 MB of buffer memory. The processor it s 1.73 GHz. I see that there is the Samsung typical 160 GB and the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 160 GB at the same price, which is better?

And for only $ 11 more there's a Scorpio blue Western digital 320 with even 8 MB buffer than other 2. But I don t think so 320, that's a lot for Satellite Pro M70, and I have an external drive 2.5 "250 GB, data with this is not problem.

What the best solution for this laptop? I don t want to burn now the phone LOL.

    Thank you

    Hello

If your laptop is already equipped with SATA interface, you can use each HDD with SATA1 or SATA2 port on the new SATA interface there is no limit on the old standard IDE

It s your choice what HARD drive you buy because I put t know your needs, but in my opinion it makes no difference which manufacturing you buy the HARD drive. All hard drives are similar and there is no significant difference (performance).
I made good experiences with Western Digital and Hitachi hard drives.

By the way: you can buy a HARD drive with 7200 rpm or 5400.rpm. Latter is faster but requires more power. In my opinion, this is useful if you often work with large files.

  • My data hard drive is about to die, or it is related to a memory problem?

My windows 7 x 64 operational system joined as well as all my applications is installed in an ssd and there is a hard drive to store data. My system is as follows:

    Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R

    MEMORY: KINGSTON KHX1600C9D3K3/12GX DDR3 12GB (3X4GB) PC12800 1600 MHZ HYPERX GENESIS TRIPLE CHANNEL KIT

    CPU: Intel Core i7 930 (s1366, 2.80 GHz)

    PSU: Enermax MODU87 + 700W 80 + gold PSU EMG700AWT

HARD drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB HDD (64 MB of Cache, 7200 RPM, Sata III)

SATAIII SSD : SSD Samsung 840 PRO Series 265 GB (model MZ-7PD256)

I rarely have the problem which is depicted in the icons following (I speak for hard drive data storage):

No preview of the photo, but I can see a specific image when I double click on it

    records are missing

After this problem, I went to check if the same thing was happening in the icons in the primary system ssd. Therefore, I went to start--> pictures--> sample photos and I could see a glimpse of the images.

I was also able to move through each folder I wanted in the ssd. Then I double clicked on 'computer' icon and the following happened.

I was able to close the window without any problem. I think that it is a hard drive problem, but could also be a memory problem. What is your opinion on that? Another weird thing that happens, is the loading time on a cold start the msconfig.exe file. Sometimes the file loads instantly and other times it takes several seconds (7-10) to load on the screen. If it is not a cold start, then the file always loads instantly. The same thing happens also with the Task Scheduler. It seems very strange to me. Please note that Superfetch, Prefetch, Defrag, Windows backup and indexing are disabled.

Finally, I found the solution to my problem. When I got a memory low message (12 GB of installed RAM memory) I couldn't believe my eyes.

I immediately opened the resource monitor, went to the memory tab and I just saw the dllhost.exe file has consume all memory. I thought that this file was infected and I checked both versions of them (x 64 & x 86) with virustotal, but it wasn't the issue. When I read that this file system is loaded to restore media files in thumbnail view in windows Explorer, I remembered that I had a defective mp4 file that could not be opened. I knew I had to do. I had to delete this file. The problem is that while you try to remove a defective media file, the dllhost.exe file tries to make it, so you are not able to delete until the end of dllhost.exe through process Explorer process.

Conclusion: When you see a media file that it is not rendered in the thumbnail, view then this file is probably defective and the dllhost.exe goes to an infinite loop, while he tries to make this file, until it consumes all your RAM memory!

  • Inspiron 620 - adding a second hard drive (UK)

    Hello

I would like to add a second hard drive on this machine (purchased in 2012). There is a free slot in the drive Bay and the spare mounting rails, there is a connector not used on the power cable (P5), so it's just a SATA data additional connection which is missing.

So should I buy a cable to plug into an outlet of spare SATA on the motherboard (I think there are 4 outlets), and if so, which card mother socket do I use? Or would it be better to replace the SATA cable with one that has two connectors on it? Recommendations of cable would be appreciated :-).

And how I tell the machine that both hard drives is the master and who is the slave?

    Thanks in advance,

    Mark

Master and slave are IDE terminology the answer is NONE.

SATA uses ports numbered 0 to blue 4The port is 0, which is the boot drive. The next black port is 1 which is the trunk dvd's.

White port is 2 where 2nd hard drive and the last black part 3 where would the next optical drive.

  • (Redirected) Cannot boot from the HARD drive on dell n5010 with SSD and HARD drive installed

I have my old dell n5010 (15R Inspiron) with SSD (Samsung EVO 840 120 G) installed on the main drive Bay and the HDD (Samsung HJJ 500 G) on the optical drive Bay.

It is a typical way to add an SSD on such an old laptop (bought from dell.com.cn in 2011).

My Windows 10 operating system has been installed on the SSD using Samsung Data Migration software, so the previous C drive was pointless. So I formatted and installed an operating system Ubuntu 14.04 on it, hoping the grub OSs double beginning located on the HARD disk.

However, I find no the Dell bios boot option to boot from the HARD drive installed in my optical drive Bay. All the choices are 'Hard Drive', 'Network' and 'Diagnostic '.

But I was definitely sure that my bios program has detected the SSD and HDD with information on the main menu of the bios.

And the LED on the optical drive Bay was immediately once I pressed the Start button on my laptop.

As a general rule, all things were right except for options of the bios boot.

Is there a way I can boot from HDD (with installed Ubuntu) while remaining has my SSD on the main drive Bay? I don't want to swap their positions, because the SSD is super fast on the main drive Bay.

I have alse won't migrate 10 Windows to the HARD drive and reinstall Ubuntu on the SSD, because I'd like my windows be loaded quickly.

Someone at - it the same problem with me?

    Any suggestion is appreciated!

  • Install Windows 7 in order to cover both hard drives?

I saw some laptops that come with two hard drives and Windows 7 seems to have been installed in order to cover the two hard drives. I'll buy a new laptop and replacing the average performance double hard drives with Western Digital Black Edition 750 GB disks hard performance; 5 year warranty compared to normal 3 year warranty.

I will also be upgrading to Windows 7 Ultimate x 64 (the system comes with Home Premium x 64) and I want to do is to install the system by using any method is used to Pierce two readers and maybe same strip between readers for best performance. Laptops I've seen configuration as this does not have built in raid controllers so I think there must be some option in Windows 7 Setup / partition process to allow you to do this, but I could not find information on exactly how do you this. Can you point me to instructions or describe the process?

    Thank you

    -Chris

Most new laptops come with a single hard drive.  It is often divided into two 2 partitions: the primary local drive (which has the Windows operating system installed) and a recovery partition (including the Windows system files necessary to perform a systrem recovery operation). For optimal performance, Windows 7 must be installed on only one hard drive. Laptops are not supported for RAID configuration.

Hey kbruff2016 welcome to the community!

WD Black is a powerful HARD drive designed for larger and heavier loads as well as multitasking more heavy. It should serve you well for a long time because it comes with a good warranty of 5 years.

You have all the drives in your computer? It may be appropriate to consider as SSD for the OS that you would see great improvements in time to start loading and the overall responsiveness of the system.

If you plan use the HARD drive in any RAID arrays in the future I would recommend going with a NAS/RAID-class drive because they have additional features such as the TLER that ensure a stable and safe performance in such conditions. Red of WD is an example.

  • Satellite A210 - 11 p - gos black screen and HARD drive does not

    Hello

My Satellite A210 - 11 p suddenly goes to a black screen and the hard drive stops working. It is always under tension and if I want to restart I have to unplug the unit and remove the battery.

I thought it was overheating and checked the time and they were really high in the 1980s. I took the fan and cleaned (very dusty) and the basic form of thermal paste. Temperatures plummeted now immediately but I still have the same problem, I updated the graphics driver and watched the temp on GPU (which is fine) but the problem is still happening. I used a number of programs to check for errors on the hard drive and no reported problems. I reloaded Windows 7 but still no joy.
The problem seems to occur at any time and is not due to the execution of a given program, even just browsing with firefox

Not too sure what to do and any advice would be welcome.

    Hey Buddy,

    > I reloaded Windows 7 but still no joy.
Have you ever tried with Toshiba Recovery disk operating system?

The Toshiba recovery disc there is an image of the settings from the factory with all the drivers and tools. If you install Windows on this disk, you factory back.

That would mean if you have the same problem after the installation of recovery it s really bad hardware working because you have pretested settings of Toshiba. In this case an authorized service provider can help you make an accurate diagnosis what part is affected.

    :( NEED HELP... PLEASE...

All you need to do is install XP that contains SATA drivers. The XP you are trying to install does not contain them is why it does not recognize your hard drive. If you can't find Xp with SATA drivers, you can create your own drive to install XP with SATA drivers in a few steps:

    (1) download nLite
    (2) download the SATA drivers for your laptop from the Toshiba site
    (3) find Xp installation (normal that you use for your PC)
    (4) start nLite and it will tell you how tointegrate the SATA drivers in the XP installation
    (5) burn the installtion disk
Install XP on the laptop to 6)
