Choose the WLAN AP appropriate antenna

Hello

I had the difficult task of spec'ing a WLAN for a distance across the country office, and I have no idea what the plan of ground etc. In fact, person does because they are yet to finalize the rental contract. Sounds crazy, but that's it.

What I don't know it there will be about 30 users and approved wireless semi policy recommends a series of 1200 (we have 2 in production, it's de facto std but these are purely for comments and/or access to the meeting room).

My question is therefore what antenna to spec, and any other useful information, people would be great.

Any help much appreciated.

Mike

To increase the post of Thomas' (which I agree with):

As presented, there are too many variables. If you were just a room only conferenece, the standard antennas 'duckie' would be nice.

For a large hotel with full coverage, you need a system of access points and may be adapted from the antennas of the coverage.

The size, layout and construction of the facility must be known to correctly build an effective system.

The signal strength is not enough, the quality of the signal is the goal. Signal quality can only be determined by a survey on the right site.

See if you can get a few impressions, start looking for a good VAR wireless / consulting group that has the right tools (hardware and software) to do a competent site survey.

Good luck

    > My wireless icon on the front of the laptop is orange.

The WLan led can only be ON or OFF. If the light comes on (any color) then it means that the Wlan switch is on!

It seems that the WiFi is enabled. In this case, you will need to properly configure the WiFi network.
You can use the own WLan settings in Windows or a Wlan configuration tool like Intel ProSet utility.

First need choose the right SSID (wireless network name), right of encryption (WEP, WPA, etc.) and password encryption.
Please note that all of these parameters should be the same on the router WLan and WLan configuration software!

Please check if the firewall does not affect the connection to the internet as well!

PS: make sure you use the latest version of the WLan driver
Here you can find the drivers:

Thank you in advance for your help, regards

The weak WiFi signal could be related to parameters that are in energy saving Windows power management.

It of possible to change the power to save the settings for different portable devices and generally depends on the use of the laptop. In case you use the battery mode, you can change the setting to increase the battery working time. But generally, this affects the performance of the device.

Here's a nice technical document how to manage these settings (it of currently for Win 7 but very similar to Win 8 or 8.1 Win)
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/HTD12017W0001R01.htm

I recommend you to choose the most efficient setting of PCI Express wireless adapter settings
By the way: in many cases its helpful to change the configuration of the WLan router. Try to use different channels (1-11) and different encryption (WPA / WPA2 TKIP AES)

    Someone has an idea?

    Hello

Did you check if the wireless card is installed correctly?
Please check if you see WLan card errors in Device Manager.
In addition if the hardware and software have been installed correctly, you must enable the WLan antenna on the side of the unit. In addition, he must use the FN + F8 key combination to activate the card.
The option use Windows to configure my wirelesses must be enabled in the properties of WLan.

  • Satellite A505-S69803 - how to replace the Wlan card?

Before we get into the details of my problem.
I pulled out a DSL product, set up hundreds of wireless routers. I was a service technician laptop for 3 years for laptops as well.

I picked up a Toshiba, the price is right and so far cause I learn that you get what you pay for.

This machine has a realtek wireless card.
As everyone knows... Realtek is cheaply made of defective material.

Toshiba refuses to replace this card.
I need to buy a new card for this laptop.
    I need to know if it's a mini-pci, half height mini-pci, pci-e, or mini-pci-e card.
I plan to get a processor intel for her.

I also need that white papers for I can remove the wrist cushion / bezel on this camera. They have guides to the user, but unlike other manufacturers of portable, do not have their service manuals available.

Any help to get to this laptop fixed would be appreciated. He is soon out of town with my parents.

    Hi vlad2,.
Realtek is also known to run perfekt Linux - this indicates that the material is not so bad as you think...

Toshiba sells such unity as specified - if you want to have some other hardware choose another model of laptop computer or replace the wlan by yourself...
in case of doubt, that the card is in it, open the door under which lies the card - for a tech notebook pro like you no big deal - and check it out.
replace this part should be easy...

to respond to your complaint: + "Toshiba will not replace this card." +
course than that! If this works, there is no need to replace and you will always get the same thing as the spare part because this model comes with sound...

I don't like to repeat myself, but a mobile technician should be able to take the machine apart (you will ruin your warranty with this action)
Disassemble the caches is a thing of partner service - not for customers...

by the way: "I learn that you get what you pay for" + means what you see is what you get, to spend more money is not bad at all...
You can't get a mercedes for the price of a small car...

and what is your technical problem with the WiFi network?

  • Qosmio G30-204 - upgrade of the WLAN card

    Hi people.

I currently have an Intel pro/Wireless 3945ABG Network card in my laptop. If I had to upgrade to a newer version, which we'd be one of the newest and best for my laptop?

And the new WiMax from Intel would work in the Qosmio G30 - 204?

    Hey Buddy,

The antenna is placed under the cover of the display and cables are placed under the keyboard or with other words, they are connected to the wireless network card.

By the way: an upgrade to the draft N standard is not possible. In my view an update of the WLAN card is not logical.

  • Qosmio F60 - L10 - how to set up the tv with integrated antenna tuner?

    Good evening
I have a toshiba qosmio f60, I read your answer about tv tuner.
My question is: how to set up the tv with integrated antenna tuner? Thank you

    The tuner is already configured!
You must use Windows Media Center.
Here, you have to choose the tuner and need to look for available DVB - T channels.

Notes; Signals DVB - T depends on the country and region.
In my area I needed an external antenna because the signal is too weak.

  • Satellite L750 system hangs after disconnecting the WLan

I bought Satellite L750 series laptop I have connected Wifi. If I disconnect the Wifi system get hooked. I can't do anything to that. I've updated the driver software and I checked all the possibilities that my knowledge.

    > if I disconnect Wifi system and then get hooked.

I assume you are using Fn + F8 to toggle the wifi.
    Right?
Have you tried to restore the system to verify if there is a system problem?
I think you should do and need to retrieve the laptop using the HDD recovery procedure
Turn on the device, press F8, choose repair my computer, choose HARD drive recovery and follow the instructions on the screen, then you will get the system with the factory settings.
    Then test the WLan.

  • Libretto U100 often loses the connection to the Wlan platform

    Hello

I have a problem with my wireless network card. I often lose the connection with the hub. I read on another forum that it might be a good idea to update the drivers. I've never done this before and I want to make sure I do it correctly. Can you please let me know the exact steps?

    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards

    Hello

The update of the driver is not difficult. First of all to know what Wlan card you use! This can be checked in the device under network adapters Manager.
Open the tree menu and check the card WiFi was installed.

Then you check the Toshiba driver for the most recent updates page or visit the Wlan card manufacturing site to download the latest version of the Wlan driver.

For the most part this driver package includes the setup.exe file. This file should be run. All that s. But if the setup.exe will fail then you could install or update the driver through Device Manager. There is an option that allows you to update the driver. You must choose the driver download source and the windows updates the old driver. All that s.

    Hello

Did you mean WiFi encryption that blocks the entrance to the local wireless network?
I suppose that you have set the encryption (WPA, WEP, etc...) on your router WLan but didn't configure the wireless network adapter.

Well, in my opinion, you should check out what WLan encryption makes the card holder and then choose it on the WLan router. The encryption key must be set to the router and the laptop!

    Hello

Your description is a bit confusing.
So here are my Tips how to connect the laptop for WiFi using the Vista operating system.

First check if your WiFi is turned on. You must use the key FN + F8 to go tot eh card WLan and then turn on the WLan switch on the side of the laptop.

According to your WiFi (Atheros or Intel) card I advise to use a WLan configuration as Atheros Client Utility or Intel ProSet Utility tool.

You can use these tools to configure WLan. I use one of these tools and I can connect and configure the WiFi network very easily.

If you want to use the Vista WLan own configuration options, can access the network locations and right click on the WiFi connection.
Choose then rebuilt Waln connection or something like that.
Then choose your WLan which has been configured on the router WLan and put the right encryption settings and you should be able to connect to you wirelessly.

    Good bye

  • Satellite 3000-514: how to enable the WLan Intel 2200BG material button

    Hello.

    I have a Toshiba Satellite 3000 514 and a WLan Mini - PCI Intel Centrino card. (Provided? ? ® PRO/Wireless 2200BG) running win - XP and Ubuntu.

Is there a solution to work around the problem, the wlan software wants to push me a hardware button to turn on wireless lan, that my laptop is enough?

In a German forum, that someone talked to solve the problem by using the 'easy', a program I already downloaded from Toshiba.
But you can only choose the .exe files to be connected to a button. Is there a .exe file to make the software think that I pushed that no wlan-hardwarebutton existion?

    * sigh * Help!

Thanks in advance. Sorry for my bad English.

    GMC

delicate sounds. I have no software solution for you, but I have another solution for you.

Since you're a German guy, you can check/read this:

It s a card atheros as I have in my Tecra 9100. So, I had a lot of problems with the card intel since they require a full work centrino
platform to work and so most of these cards are 'material' switch (in your case a button) to work.

With the card atheros Don t you have these problems with switch/button since they work at all times without the need for switches or buttons.
The downside is that you can't turn off the map for energy saving purposes.

So I hope that I could help you. Would appreciate some comments. :)

    Nice weekend.

    Welcome them
