Cisco still sells router-AP (wireless routers) for domestic use

Well, do not really know where to ask
But what is described

Cisco router-point of access is great and fearsome performance for a domestic use, but cisco is still for sale? If so, can someone give me a link to the list of products?
Think so just to clarify, I'm not talking about Linksys wireless routers :)

If you are looking for equipment of the company, so it's Cisco, but since they let go the Linksys line, it is not any kind of home router AP. Cisco has an SME but that may not be what you want too.

  • Suggestion for setting up a good secured router including wireless routers

I've owned three routers LinkSys Wireless since May 2007: two WRT54G (V6 and V8) and my current V1 E3000.  All provided configuration options that can do if it is very difficult, if not impossible, for unauthorized access to my WiFi routers.

All changes must then your system is connected to one of the router's Ethernet ports and not through WiFi due to the modification point #3 of "General Suggestions.

All the elements in square brackets by "<>" are the titles of LinkSys Admin web pages or sections of web pages.  Don't forget to click "Save Settings" on a single web page before you go to another web page or your changes will be lost.

Please note that not all pages of the LinkSys Router Web Admin can use the titles of Section-page/website such as used in this suggestion.

Make sure you know MAC address and physics of your wireless adapter so that it will be necessary for the point #3 «Proposals WiFi»  Assuming that you have a Microsoft Windows-based system, use a 'Command Prompt' to issue command ' ipconfig/all' to determine the MAC address (aka physical) of your adapter WiFi wireless connected to a router.

After all the suggested changes, repeat the process to ensure that the changes have been saved.

    GENERALS.

    (1) < administration/mgmt=""> change the Admin password to one of your choice.

    (2) access to disable HTTP and HTTPS allow access.  After that it changed was recorded, you must reconnect to the router via note https://192.168.1.1 URL using httpS or http (without S) for a secure connection to the router admin web pages.

    (3) in Wireless disable access to the Admin web pages.  Must use the Ethernet port on the router.

    (4) in disable remote management AND disable UPnP - UPnP (a well-known Protocol should can route diversion if enabled).

    Specific suggestions of WiFi.

    (1) in turn off the SSID broadcast.  This will prevent the intruders 'driveby' to see the SSID of LinkSys Router.  Make sure that change you the default SSID of your choice.

    (2) in set your security level to the WPA or WPA2 (preferred WPA2).  Do NOT use WEP because it's encryption algorithm can be cracked in less than 5 seconds.  This will protect your transmissions between your system and the router.  The E series routers are supported both WPA/WPA2 depending on the client configuration.  My WRT54G routers would support only WPA or WPA2.

(3.) in Select AES, TKIP not as security consultants have recently discovered a flaw in TKIP encryption crackable.

4.) Select a passphrase that you and systems all allowed must be used to secure your router connections.

    (5) in the enable filtering MAC and "Allow only PC" whose MAC addresses are defined in the .  Both of these changes will require that you register addresses MAC and physical of all wireless clients that allow you to connect to your network router.  Failure to record the physical address/MAC system will refuse this system to access your network, even if they have the correct passphrase AES and SSID.

    1. disable the SSID broadcast is useless. Any Drivede will detect always immediately the access point because it should send signals of tag.

It is trivial to force a wireless client to reveal the SSID. Thus, any hacker will be able to learn the SSID almost immediately after it has detected the presence of your router.

In addition, to disable the SSID broadcast causes known problems of connection/reconnection with several wireless devices.

In addition, broadcast disable SSID drains the batteries in your wireless devices as they have to actively seek a connection to your SSID to know whether here or now.

As long as your wireless device is not connected to a wireless network, it will be continues to try to connect to your SSID at regular intervals. For example, if you have your iPhone set up to connect to your home network and you pull out your iPhone permanently tries to connect to your SSID, transmitting the requests of the association on a regular basis, actually bloating on your "hidden SSID' to anyone.

As transmitting something takes a lot more power then passively scanning and tuned radio waves, it drains the battery. If you need good battery life with your ever wireless devices connect them to a network with SSID broadcast disabled, or make sure that the device does not automatically connect to it!

Never disable the SSID broadcast, especially not for security reasons, because they do not offer any added safety or an advantage.

    2. the MAC address filtering does nothing more. MAC addresses are always in the unencrypted part of wireless packet. Any attacker will immediately learn the MAC addresses of your wireless devices. It is absolutely useless in the means of security and cause problems as the best for you. Do not bother about the filtering of MAC addresses. It does not prevent attacks on your network as it is easily circumvented.

Use WPA2 with AES and a password strong. That's all that is necessary to protect your wireless network.

The rest is a joke for any aggressor and bothers you much more than the alleged assailant. If an attacker was able to decipher your network WPA2/AES the SSID of your network and MAC addresses are a free byproduct you will get during the cracking process...

  • Help create a VLAN for domestic use.

I use Cisco SG300 and SG200 series switch. I put my home network as attach photo.

I want to configure VLANS with these condition

    1. all ports can connect to the internet via ADSL router.

2.VLAN10 (home alarm and IP camera) can access residential, access point and PC file server to connect

    3. each port can connect to PC file server

I am new to network and do not try to install myself and understand not static route.

    Thank you.

    Hi paylo,.

Are you sure you want to do this on the switch instead of the router? Will you use static IP addresses for VLANs, or do you want your router to deliver DHCP?

To continue using the switch for routing inter - vlan, make sure the SG300 is mode layer 3.

    1. If you are currently in mode layer 2, open a CLI connection and issue command:

    router adjustment system mode

Take note that this will delete your current config and the switch will reboot.

    2. create the VLANS on your switch under management VLAN-> create a vlan

    3. go to IP Configuration-> interface ipv4 and assign each vlan a static IP address for the switch in the subnet for the new LAN virtual

    4. vlan management-> the Interface settings. I leave all ports as trunk ports, or change the Trunk ports, if you have already changed their.

    5. vlan Management-> Port VLAN membership. Assign your VLAN ports appropriate.

    6. when everything is all connected, you should be able to see the switch of the static routes for you already created under static Configuration of the IP-> IPV4 routes. Make sure all your subnets are there and demonstrate local range type

    7. you may need to add a route for example 0.0.0.0 with the next hop is your router

At this point, you should be up and running, with all them VLAN connected to each other and to the internet.

If you want to restrict access between them VLAN, you will need to create access control lists.

You must first create an ACL (Access control-> ACL based IPV4) and give it a name. then move on IPV4 based ACE where you put real access control rules.

This is a sample set of rules that I did, it will block all access between two subnets (each vlan that you created above should be its own subnet) and allow certain traffic like 3389 - remote desktop, etc. You will need to customize according to your needs and IP subnet. So for ex, to enable the Xbox access the file server, rather than all - everything, you put the xbox or IPs specific subnet as the source, the file server as destination, and the ports as source ports. Don't forget to do the reverse of the rule as well.

Then go to-> links ACL access control and bind the list control access to ports there.

Hope that helps, good luck with your game to the top.

    Best,

    David

  • What wireless network for Time Capsule backups?

Just installed a new Capsule of time at home. The time Capsule is a wireless router, and I can connect all my devices wirelessly to the Network Time capsule wireless. I still 2 other active wireless networks because I use 2 additional wireless routers for access anywhere in the House. All three of my wireless networks are created from the same internet modem. I want to confirm is whether or not my Mac can be connected to one of the 3 networks for automatic backups on the Time Capsule wireless? Or is the Mac must be connected to the network of the time Capsule for automatic backups to time capsule wireless? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Cascading of wireless routers. How?

    Hello!

I need 2 routers cascade, but I can't use threads (at least for the moment), to extend the coverage of my private home network.

First router is a WRT610Nv1, connected via PPPoE for my ISP and Internet. The two radio freq (2.4 & 5 MHz) are activated but I use mostly the 2.4 with the devices.

Second router is an E2000, 2 floors below. During this second device, I would like to connect some cables (XBOX) and some wireless device (computers). It would be ok to configure E2000 as an Extender (same IP subnet) but I can't find any option or similar configuration to use WDS.

Currently the E2000 place is taken by a 3rd router (WRT150Nv1.1 with firmware WW - DRT) acting as a Repeater bridge (over 2.4 MHz) but I want to dismiss this 3rd possibly using 5 MHz and didn't want to put the dd - wrt firmware in E2000.

Is it possible to connect WRT610N and E2000 cascade wireless? How can I configure them?

Thanks in advance for any suggestion...

    Concerning

    Roberto

No you can not mount cascade two Linksys wireless routers, you must use a thread.  However, there are 3rd party firmware that can do this.  Make a search for DD - WRT and discover their firmware.

  • Cisco 837 as router ADSL2 +.

Hey guys, I hope someone can answer a few questions I have and see on the setting of a configuration that I have problems with!

I have a situation where I have ADSL2 + with a couple of IP addresses additional, unfortunately my current router does not properly support Translation NAT, nor does it support additional IP on the same interface... so my solution was to fill the current router (Netgear DGN2000) and push it into a Cisco 837 I without apparent reason laying around.

My idea was to implement the Ethernet0 interface as a LAN interface and the Ethernet2 as a WAN interface traffic and route between them, but I have problems obtain the WAN to authenticate correctly - I never did authenticating PPPoE on a Cisco before, and even less when I do not use interfaces ATM0/Dialer0 of the to do!

My setup is attached as it is, I wasn't sure if I needed to configure the IP address of my real world interface Ethernet2, or the Dialer0 interface would take care of this for me? I used the advice of configuration in (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/access/800/819/software/configuration/Guide/9ppp_e_nat.html) to set up what I have now, but wasn't sure if it would work on a different device.

Last things, I read somewhere that the Ethernet interfaces on the 837 were 10Mbit only - this would mean that if I push my link ADSL2 + through it, I would not be able to get faster than that? Or he ignores what I physically connect through a FastEthernet port?

Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

    Hi Damien,.

Your configuration as a result of problems:

    1. Routing is disabled (I wonder how this happened) so the router is not a router at all. Fix this by adding the ip Routing and ip cef to your global configuration.
    2. The VPDN turned on unnecessarily. Remove the VPDN configuration altogether by entering the No vpdn-group TPG and not activate vpdn in your global configuration.
    3. Remove the interface Ethernet2 NAT configuration - this interface is not enabled, it is not necessary to configure IP NAT. enter no external ip nat in the Ethernet2 configuration.
    4. On the interface Ethernet2, try to remove the enable pppoe command. This command enables the PPPoE server feature which is useless, because you are a customer. The only required command regarding the PPPoE is the configuration of customer, have you already present with the command pppoe client dial-pool-number 1 -command who must stay on Ethernet2.
    5. Dialer1 interface, add the command ip tcp adjust-mss 1452 to make sure that the TCP sessions are not segments oversized requiring fragmentation. Add the ip nat outside command, as is the Dialer1 interface that is IP compatible interface to the outside world.
    6. On the Dialer1 interface, the controls group dialer and ppp authentication are useless and should not be present. The first command sets a list of "interesting traffic" which can cause a dialer to dial a number, but this only applies to compounds such as analog modems or ISDN, not in PPPoE technology. The second command actually cause that you need your ISP to authenticate in some cases, and it won't. As a result, issue the following commands in the configuration of Dialer1:
      1. No dialer-Group 1
      2. no authentication chap pap callin PPP
    7. Remove the route ip 10.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 Dialer1 static route and replace with ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Dialer1 -I suppose you want all internet connectivity through the Dialer interface.
    8. Remove the ip nat inside source list internal interface Ethernet2 overload and replace it with the ip nat inside source list interface internal overload Dialer1 : this is the IP address of the Dialer1 you are hiding your internal network behind.

Try to make these changes and retest your connectivity. If it still does not please post your config then in force.

    Best regards

    Peter

  • Addition of wireless routers in series with the existing network

I have a client who wants to add at least 3 Wireless throughout their existing network routers. The problem is that these routers must be in the same subnet as the existing network. Oh, we use routers Linksys WRT610N. By default, routers set up a new subnet with a DHCP assigned IP of the primary subnet. I was able to change the static WAN IP, but I do not know how to configure the rest. The point of this is that if a user connected via the ethernet cable or wireless signal, they should be able to access the same network resources. I chatted with support, but they are not allowed to help what it isn't is not a "standard" configuration Anyone can shed some light on this subject? I've done this before with another customer, but its been a few years and it's a different router.

    Thank you!

You don't want a router. You want a wireless access point. You have wireless routers that you do not use as routers, but only as access points. A router by definition routes traffic between several subnets connected to the various interfaces (LAN and WAN). This kind of configuration is not what the WRT is built for and that's why support said you that it is not a standard configuration for a WRT.

You can use a WRT as simple access point.

Reconfigure the router via its web interface. Connect a computer to the router first.

    1. set the LAN IP address on a free IP address in the existing network.
    2. make sure NOT to set a static IP address on the type of internet connection.
    3. on the main configuration page turn off the DHCP server.
    4. now save the settings. You will lose the connection.
    5. unplug the computer and one of the numbered LAN ports of wire to your existing network.

Now you can access the web interface of the WRT to the new LAN IP address. All wired to the other 3 LAN ports and everything wirelessly connected has access to the network directly.

  • It is a way to password protect guess access on a router E2000 wireless?

I want to put in place access invited to my router E2000, but only for a few friends, not my entire neighborhood. When I created originally by Cisco Connect, I was able to set up an account with a password, but it shows up in my registration non-secure wireless - you don't need the password to access. Is there a way to password protect the connection without comment thread?

Yes, it does not appear to be unsafe, but in order to be able to surf you need generates the Cisco Connect password.

So no, it is not open, but I think they are always connected to the router, and that's not good either.

Hi, my name is Thomas Yeo, staying in Malaysia. I am a student. I own a HP Pavilion notebook g4. Is the product name and number is HP Pavilion g4-1204tx. It runs Windows 7. • Wireless card for dv8t

    Hello all,.

I am looking for an internal card replace the Intel Wifi 5100 agn card that came with my machine.  I tried every fix posted in the forums and the updated drivers to V13.1.1.1 but is not connect with my Linksys wrt160n router.  He has no problem to connect with my wrt54g router, but wireless is a nogo.

I'm leaning towards it being the card because I can connect two routers with portable Gateway to my wife with a n Atheros wireless card.  So I tell myself another card to my Hp n wireless might work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but I ended up solving the problem myself.  Stupid me, I forgot that the old G router has been on channel 1 in order to make it work in my house.  Because my building is old more than 125 years old and the walls are original.  This means that the plaster is maintained by a mesh of underlying lead.  It seems this degraded the signal wire and only channel 1 worked.  I went from the N-router to Canel and boom it works.  Didn't even have to disable N mode to operate.

Sounds weird, but it wasn't the problem.  Thanks again for all the suggestions.

  • HP Touchpad browser works only with the Cisco Valet Plus router

I bought a 16 GB HP Touchpad several months ago and had been enjoying his excellent WiFi feature with my old G from Linksys WRT54GS wireless router until I replaced it with a new Cisco Valet Plus (model M20) wireless-N Router a couple of days.

Although I could easily and successfully, join the Touchpad to the Cisco Valet network, browser fails most of the time to load web pages.   For example, if I go to www.yahoo.com, the browser is going to slowly load the web page, or it will expire with a pop-up message error "Impossible to load the Page.   If I try to select a link from the homepage of Yahoo, it expires with the same message.  And this happens for all web pages.  If the initial page happens at all, I can then from this page a link to any other.

I know that the issue is not with the router because I have several other devices connected to it and they are all working well, including a laptop HP ProBook, an iPad and a Wii Console, I use to watch Netflix movies on.  None of them has a problem - only the Touchpad.

If I go into settings-> Wi - Fi, it shows that the Touchpad is connected to Cisco network.  And when I run the diagnostic system, it shows that the Wi - Fi works correctly.

Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem?

I have found a workaround that did the trick.  I had to change the channel setting auto on a coded hard 1 channel wireless.

Now, the Touchpad works very well, as well as all other devices that have worked.
