Cisco VPN Client behind PIX 515E,-> VPN concentrator

I'm trying to configure a client as follows:

The user is running Cisco VPN Client 4.0. They are behind a 6.1 PIX 515E (4), and I need to connect to a VPN concentrator located outside of our network. We use PAT for address translation. As far as I know, to allow ipsec through Firewall 1 tunnel, I need to upgrade the pix to 6.3 and activate "fixup protocol esp-ike.

Is there another way to do this? I am also curious to know how much more easy/better this will work if we were dealing with pptp.

You don't necessarily need to fixup protocol esp-ike active. The remote Hub there encapsulation NAT - T enabled so that clients behind the NAT can run?

    Hi all

I need your expert help on the following issues I have:

    1. I would like to create more than 1 client VPN on my PIX-515E groups. This is so that I can give a different part of the internal network access to different type of VPN connection. For example, I want a group to have no XAUTH, while the other group must use RADIUS XAUTH. Is it possible for me to do this? I see the PIX automatically enable RADIUS on both groups of VPN clients.

    2. the RADIUS server is a Microsoft ISA with IAS server and it is located on the PIX inside interface. The VPN endpoint is external interface of the PIX. Is there a problem with this Setup? Do I need to have the RADIUS server that is located on the external interface?

3 can. what command I use to debug RADIUS authentication?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi vincent,.

    (1) you can use the vpngroup *-authentication server ipaddress to specify the IP address of the Radius Server on a particular group... If you do not specify this, the authentication of the user is made locally... also check for vpngroup * order of user authentication

    (2) there should be no problem with the installation of your... should work fine... If the RADIUS is outdoors, it is subject to many attacks... so have it inside...

    (3) use the "RADIUS session debug" or "debug aaa authentication..."

I hope this helps... all the best... the rate of responses if found useful

  • Several outbound VPN connections behind PIX-515E

I will take a PIX-515E off-site for a provision of access internet location. I have several people behind this PIX, who will have to return to the same Office VPN. One person can VPN through the PIX very well, but if someone else tries to VPN they cannot. Once the first person has disconnected for 10 minutes, then the next person can connect. I activated the NAT - T and added fixup protocol esp-ike. What can I do it wrong? Thank you.

fixup protocol esp-ike - allows PAT to (ESP), one tunnel.

    Please remove this correction.

If the remote site has NAT - T enabled, then you should be able to use NAT - T and more than 1 user should be able to use behind the PIX VPN client.

    See you soon

  • Several VPN clients behind PIX

Multiple users in our company have establish a VPN client connection to a VPN Internet gateway. The connection must go through our PIX. I already active correction for esp - ike Protocol and this allows a user to get out. When following users try to configure a VPN connection to the VPN gateway on the internet, the following syslog error appears:

3 PIX-305006%: failed to create translation portmap for udp src inside:192.168.0.102/500 dst outside:1x5.x17.x54.x10/500

It seems to me that the PIX only supports an outbound VPN client connection at the time. Is this true?

When I perform a clear xlate, first user disconnects, but new users is able to establish a VPN connection.

    Kind regards

    Tom

That's right, Tom - in the release notes for 6.3 (1), the PAT for ESP section says "PIX Firewall version 6.3 provides protocol PAT IP 50 capacity to support unique outbound IPSec user."

If you have enough public IP addresses and the remote VPN gateway supports PPTP, then a means to achieve multiple outbound VPN connections would be to set up a separate pool of the NAT for users who require outbound access and assign internal IP addresses of those users to use these addresses.

Having had just a quick look around, if PPTP is an option, then the PPTP PAT 6.3 support can help.

  • Help, please! Microsoft Vs Cisco VPN Client VPN

Could someone please indicate if the Cisco VPN Client is safer than the VPN integrated Microsoft on windows XP? If the Cisco client is more secure than why? Microsoft it does not use IPSEC and PPTP right?

    Please advise - very urgent!

I don't know a customer Cisco Cisco VPN concentrator is safer, but I'm not sure exactly why.

    Carlton,

Take a deeper look at the same time, all your questions will be answered once you look at these links.

IPSec is a Cisco VPN standard, open customer or any customer VPN IPSec based should meet these standards. You'll learn more by reading these few bellow of links at the end of the reading you will be to have a better

perspective on the customer you would gear more to use as a professional network.

Personally, I've been away little by little PPTP and substituting Cisco VPN clients. Don't get me wrong, PPTP is still widely used there, but it is more vulnerable.

With Ipsec VPN, you have a wider choice of authentication algorithms, to base

granularity of ciphers as a way to implement a secure VPN extreamely for RA architecture

  • problem of traffic flow with tunnel created the network with a tunnel to a VPN concentrator

Hi, I worked with Cisco and the seller for 2 weeks on this.II am hoping that what we are witnessing will ring a Bell with someone.

    Some basic information:

I work at a seller who needs from one site to the other tunnel.  There are currently 1 site to another with the seller using a Juniper SSG, which works without incident in my system.  I'm transitioning to routers Cisco 2811 and put in place a new tunnel with the seller for the 2800 uses a different public ip address in my address range.  So my network has 2 tunnels with the provider that uses a Cisco VPN concentrator.  The hosts behind the tunnel use 20x.x.x.x public IP addresses.

My Cisco router will create a tunnel, but I can't not to hosts on the network of the provider through the Cisco 2811, but I can't get through the tunnel of Juniper.  The seller sees my packages and provider host meets them and sends them to the tunnel.  They never reach the external interface on my Cisco router.

I'm from the external interface so that my endpoint and the peers are the same IP address.  (note, I tried to do a static NAT and have an address of tunnel and my different host to the same result.)  Cisco has confirmed that I do have 2 addresses different and this configuration was a success with the creation of another successful tunnels toa different network.)

I tested this configuration on a network of transit area before moving the router to the production network and my Cisco 2811 has managed to create the tunnel and ping the inside host.  Once we moved the router at camp, we can no longer ping on the host behind the seller tunnel.   The seller assured me that the tunnel setting is exactly the same, and he sees his host to send traffic to the tunnel.  The seller seems well versed with the VPN concentrator and manages connections for many customers successfully.

The seller has a second VPN concentrator on a separate network and I can connect to this VPN concentrator with success of the Cisco 2811 who is having problems with the hub, which has also a tunnel with Gin.

Here is what we have done so far:

    (1) confirm the config with the help of Cisco 2811.  The tunnel is up.  SH cyrpto ipa wristwatch tunnel upward.
    (2) turn on Nat - T side of the tunnel VPN landscapers
    (3) confirm that the traffic flows properly a tunnel on another network (which would indicate that the Cisco config is ok)
    (4) successfully, tunnel and reach a different configuration hosting
    (5) to confirm all the settings of tunnel with the seller
    (6) the seller confirmed that his side host has no way and that it points to the default gateway
    (7) to rebuild the tunnel from scratch
    8) confirm with our ISP that no way divert traffic elsewhere.  My gateway lSP sees my directly connected external address.
    (9) confirm that the ACL matches with the seller
    (10) I can't get the Juniper because he is in production and in constant use

Is there a known issue with the help of a VPN concentrator to connect to 2 tunnels on the same 28 network range?

Options or ideas are welcome.  I had countless sessions with Cisco webex, but do not have access to the hub of the seller.  I can forward suggestions.

Please help about the VPN concentrator... How I can set VPN concentrator in failover mode... Just as we do firewalls?

    Help, please

    Hi yogesh,

Concentrator VPN supports failover through VRRP. Please find the following for your reference document:

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/products/HW/vpndevc/ps2284/products_tech_note09186a0080094490.shtml

As for the addition of failover for VPN concentrator, you happen to have a spare hub VPN to run VRRP?

Don't know if you know, however, VPN concentrator comes end of life and the last delivery date was November 2007, as a result, you will not be able to buy VPN concentrator more.

  • PIX: Cisco VPN Client connects but no routing

    Hello

We have a Cisco PIX 515 with software 7.1 (2). He accepts Cisco VPN Client connections with no problems, but no routing does to internal networks directly connected to the PIX. For example, my PC is affected by the IP 172.16.2.57 and then ping does not respond to internal Windows server 172.16.0.12 or trying to RDP. The most irritating thing is that these attempts are recorded in the system log, but always ended with "SYN timeout", as follows:

    2009-01-06 23:23:01 Local4.Info 217.15.42.214% 302013-6-PIX: built 3315917 for incoming TCP connections (172.16.2.57/1283) outside:172.16.2.57/1283 inside: ALAI2 / 3389 (ALAI2/3389)

We tried to activate and deactivate "nat-control", "permit same-security-traffic inter-interface" and "permit same-security-traffic intra-interface", but the results are the same: the VPN connection is successfully established, but remote clients cannot reach the internal servers.

  • Cisco VPN client, PIX, and proxy

Hi.I have problem in my company. We have users that go through a proxy server located in the DMZ of a PIX to the internet (allowed through the ACL of the DMZ on the outside, etc.). Which works very well.

The problem arises when they use a Cisco VPN client to connect to another company, and they can no longer access the Internet, but may work via VPN to a remote site (client has been authorized by the Cisco PIX). Everything returns to normal when they no longer use the VPN client.

Any ideas why this would happen?

Without the proxy, browsing the internet via the vpn connection, or split tunnel is configured and you are leaving locally. If split tunnel is configured, the ip address of proxy server can overlap with the remote protected network.

Fortunately, it is easy for you to know how the vpn is configured, just check the route details of vpn client statistics tab.

Verify that the routing table local pc will also help you to solve this problem.

  • How to allow access to a local area network behind the cisco vpn client

Hi, my question is about how to allow access to a local area network behind the cisco vpn client

    With the help of:

    • Cisco 5500 Series Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) that is running version 8.2 software
    • Cisco VPN Client version 5.0 software

Cisco VPN client allows to inject a local routes in the routing table Cisco ASA?

    Thank you.

    Hi Vladimir,.

Unfortunately this is not a supported feature if you connect through the VPN Client. With VPN Client, that the VPN Client can access the VPN Client LAN host/local machine, not host from the local network to business as customer VPN is not designed for access from the local company network, but to the local corporate network.

If you want to access from your local business to your LAN network, you need to configure LAN-to-LAN tunnel.

  • Number of VPN clients behind a PIX 501, restriction?

Is there a restriction in the number of VPN clients can be behind a PIX 501. Is is just limited by the number of hosts (10, 50, Unlimited)?

    Hello

Behind a PIX VPN clients. Will you use NAT - T (must). It will be limited only to the number of users (normal users) through the PIX. So if you have a license to use 10 or 50 then the VPN connection is counted in this list.

Connection VPN Client through PIX is not IKE tunnel. They are normal UDP500 and UDP4500 peers.

If you see the MM_WAIT_MSG2, which means that her counterpart (the other side) does not answer and this side where you can see the status MM_WAIT_MSG2 sent the first message IKE, however, did not hear of the peer.

You can check if UDP/500 is stuck on the way between the 2 sites.

Try running traffic on the other side and see if you also get the same status of MM_WAIT_MSG2. If you do, that confirms 100% 500/UDP is blocked on the way between the 2 sites.

Try to add the "isakmp nat-traversal" command to your PIX. I suspect what happens is that Remote LAN users is translated to a single IP address as they pass through the DSL connection. I also assume that the machine doing the translation has a capacity of IPSec passthrough. Linksys routers would be a good example of this type of NAT device that allows IPSec pull-out.

If that's the case, that a single VPN connection will be able to operate both. The above command will turn PIX detect clients that are located behind a NAT device, and then try to configure the VPN sessions in UDP packets and so to work around the limitation of NAT and IPSec passthrough device.

  • PIX 515E and remote access VPN

I use a PIX 515E with: ASDM Version: 5,0000 51 PIX Version: 8.0 (4) and configure it with remote access VPN.

I would like to get an email every time that a user login (and or disconnection) to the VPN. Remote clients use the Cisco VPN Client.

    Any help is appreciated,

    Hello

Here is a link to the email configuration when you log in to the ASA/PIX: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security/pix-500-series-security-appliances/63884-config-asa-00.html#anc7

Then you can create a list of message to send the logs only for the connection/disconnection of the VPN user: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security/pix-500-series-security-appliances/63884-config-asa-00.html#anc18

There is a wire that is linked here: https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/10798976/asa-email-logging-issue
