Clean install on laptop 2008

I was given a late 2008 13 "MacBook aluminum 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo/w 2 GB of storage. It has installed ElCapitan and is slow as molasses. It took 60 seconds for the window "about this Mac" to come!   I want to do a clean install with a BONE that will make it as fast as possible and see if it is fast enough to be functional for Safari, Mail, numbers and Pages. My personal computer is a current 15 "Macbook Pro, which I could connect at 13" via USB 2.0.   I also have a 32GB USB key.

(1) what OS if I put on this laptop? According to the Apple support, it is the older model which will work with ElCapitan. An earlier operating system, (i.e. Lion) would go smoother? Or model would be more effective?

(2) do I need to find the original installation disc provided with the 13 "to start it for a clean install? Can I use an installation of Lion from a laptop disk 15 "former and then update to model?

Here are your options and the requirements that you must begin by wiping the drive and installation of Snow Leopard:

Upgrade to Snow Leopard

You can buy Snow Leopard at the Apple Store:Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (US). The price is $ 19.99 plus tax. You will receive a physical media by mail after placing your order.

After the installation of Snow Leopard you will need to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Combo Update v1.1 update Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store lets you download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.

     General requirements for Snow Leopard

1. equipped mac to an Intel processor

2. the 1 GB memory

3. 5 GB of available disk space

4. DVD drive for installation

5. some features require a compatible Internet service provider;

conditions apply.

Clean Install of Snow Leopard

Make sure that you have backed up your files because the following procedure will remove all of the hard drive.

1. start the computer using the Snow Leopard installation disc or disc 1 that came

with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.

After the ring, press and hold the C"" key.  Release the button when you see

a small gear appear under the dark gray Apple logo.

button. When the menu bar appears select utility drive in the Utilities menu.

After charge OF select hard drive entry in the list on the left (mfgr. ID and drive

size.)  Click the Partition tab in the main window of THE.  Set the number of

partitions to one (1) from the Partitions of the dropdown menu, click on the Options button

GUID, click OK, and then select define the Mac OS Extended format type

(Logged, if supported), and then click the apply button.

3. when formatting is complete FROM and return to the installer.  Move forward

with the installation of OS X and follow the instructions included with the installer.

4. Once installation is complete your computer will restart in the Setup

Assistant. After finishing Setup Wizard will complete the installation, after which

you will use a new installation of Mac OS X.  You can now begin the process of updating

at the opening of updated software and installing all recommend updates to bring your

current installation.

Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 v1.1 updated Combo.

Upgrade to El Capitan

You can pass the Lion El Capitan or directly from Snow Leopard. El Capitan can be downloaded for FREE from the Mac App Store.

Upgrade to El Capitan

To upgrade to El Capitan, you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or installed Lion. Download El Capitan from the App Store. Sign in with your Apple ID. El Capitan is free. The file is big enough, more than 5 GB, allow it some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

Mac that can be upgraded to OS X El Capitan

1 iMac (mid-2007 or newer) - model identifier 7.1 or later

2 MacBook (late 2008 or early 2009 or newer aluminium) - model identifier 5.1 or later

3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

4 MacBook Air (late 2008 or newer)- model identifier 2.1 or later

5 mac mini (early 2009 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

6 mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

7 Xserve (early 2009) - model identifier 3.1 or later version

To find the identifier of the model open system information in the Utilities folder. It is displayed in the Panel on the right.

My applications are compatible?

See table of application - RoaringApps compatibility

Upgrade to Lion

If your computer does not meet the requirements to install the Mavericks, it can still meet the specifications to install Lion.

You can buy Lion to the Apple store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus taxes.  It's a download. You will receive an email with a redemption code that you then use on the Mac App Store for download Lion. Save a copy of this installer to your download folder because Setup deletes itself at the end of the installation.

Lion system requirements

1 mac with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,

or Xeon processor

2. 2 GB of memory

3 OS X 10.6.6 or later (10.6.8) recommended

4. 7 GB of available space

5. certain features require an Apple ID; conditions apply.

  • R050sa flow 11: Activation fails after a clean install on laptop pre-installed Windows 10

I just bought a HP notebook 11 r050sa stream with Windows preinstalled Home 10, but could not start when it opened its doors to the top (circle kept spinning turn for hours).

As I was intending to do a clean install anyway, to remove any HP bloatware, I decided to delete all partitions and perform a new installation from a USB key using the official Microsoft Media creation tool for Windows 10 Home https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10.

Installation went well but the activation failed indicating that I have "do not have a digital right.

How is this possible, since the PC came with Windows preinstalled 10? How can I get my license back?

There was a surprising new twist in this question, should I report it here in case someone else is in the same situation.

When I received the activation failed I reported to my original request, I had done the installation using the edition entitled 'Windows 10 unilingual homepage' (see figure below), which seemed to me the only option if I wanted to install "Windows 10 home" which is preinstalled on my laptop.

Yesterday I did a last attempt at creating USB installation after selecting 'Windows 10' (see figure below). Yet once, I removed all partitions on disk and performed a completely clean install on my HP notebook 11 r050sa flow.

The result is that, in the end installation smoothly, I found my computer with installed "Windows 10 Home" and fully active, without the need to insert an activation key of windows, with all the drivers installed automatically by Windows and without any HP bloatware!

I'm puzzled by the outcome, but happy...

  • Laptop HP 15-f111dx: 10 windows clean install

My laptop came originally with 8.1 Windows preinstalled (purchased in 2014). Last year, I did the free update for Windows 10. I also did the original OS HP Recovery disks for the supplied Win 8.1 system with my laptop, and I did the 10 Windows upgrade USB recovery.

My question: I plan to do a Windows 10 'clean install' because I don't think I necessarily need ALL the pre-installed software HP initially installed on my computer, which of course remained after I did the upgrade to win 10. However, my question is if I do a clean install, I'm aware that NONE of the software original HP and drivers (including the HP Support Assistant who helps with updates software/driver) would be installed.

I have concerns not to get the updated drivers if I did a clean install.  I assume that there is no possible way to later install SOME of the software that came with my original installation, as the DVD burning software (CyberLink), Foxit Phantom PDF program, etc.

Can someone shed some light on this topic, especially if you did a clean install of win 10? Thank you.

  • Laptop HP 15-R204NE: clean install of Windows 10

    Hello

I'm ready to do a clean install of Windows 10 but the only thing that worried me are the drivers provided factory installed with my laptop, it was initially delivered with Windows 64 - bit of 8.1. I don't want to lose one that I have no idea how or where I'm going to do if I lose everything. If someone has a way to understand this help is very much appreciated.

    Kind regards.

    Hello Zarakkhan ;

I read your post on the new install of drivers of Win10 and wanted to help.

As to the first, the upgrade of active Win10 through something known as right digital, install some sense, when you perform an upgrade on the spot on an existing Win7/8/8.1, upgrade reuses the existing product key for activation.  After you confirm that the machine is turned on, you can THEN do a clean install on the same machine.  IF you do a clean install without activating the first, you will not activate your copy of Win10.

That said, MS released earlier to a new update to Win10 and (allegedly), you should be able to do a clean install with NEW media made from multimedia authoring tool and have it activate using your product key of Win8.1.  But, I haven't read anyone done this yet, is just a rumor at this point.

As for save the drivers, there's a product excellent freeware called Driver Backup.  After you download and install it, you can then save out all your current drivers on a USB key.  This will make reinstall them later a simple process. I know it works because I use this product myself.

    Good luck

I'm a volunteer and I do not work for, or represent, HP.

  • HP Envy TS m7 Ntbk E0K99UA #ABL: HP Envy laptop Windows 10, clean install and reinstall applications preinstalled

    Hello

8.1 Windows, I've just updated my HP Envy laptop to Windows 10. I now have a Windows 10 product key (that I found using the Microsoft tool productkey. The update went well. All the drivers have worked. The question isn't here.

I have to do a clean reinstall of the laptop. Too much shit...

I know how Windows 10, but I don't know how I'll be able to reinstall the app pre-loaded, he came with the laptop.

Firstly, Windows 10 kind of RecoveryMgr blocked... I just can't access more...

If I boot with the drive D or the backup media, I created, I'm only given the opportunity to reinstall completely (but, of course, for Windows 8).

    Two questions:

    1. from the D drive or my backup media, is there a way to separately select application to install? (Everything seems compressed and it allows me to start the installation of each software program.

2-if I reinstall Windows 8 using backup media, I created (or d reader app), I'll have my own installation... but I'll be able to re-update to Windows 10? (remember, I now have a product key...).

    Thank you.

    Sébastien

Your best option would be to use the recovery media to reinstall the original OS. Since you have an activation key of license for the original operating system meets the requirement to update Windows 10.

Once you have done this, you can use the key to creation of Windows Media to create a bootable installation flash drive or to proceed directly to Windows 10.

Windows 10 installation as an upgrade has the advantage of you to have the applications installed at the origin of the original OS present and ready to use in your new installation of Windows 10.

Otherwise with a clean install of Windows 10, the HP Recovery Manager wil do not exist, or you can install it separately.

Have you pressed a key after this part of the 2nd message: "press any key to boot from cd or dvd"?

If you haven't done so already, it's trying to boot from the hard drive, and that's why you're the "BOOTMGR is missing" part of the message.

  • A clean install of Windows 7 - do not accept keys of the laptop

I had an older laptop and the hard drive had a mechanical failure.

I bought and installed a new hard drive and clean installed Windows 7 as downloaded from the Microsoft Web site. The computer is old enough that the manufacturer offers more support for recovery. I installed Windows and I used the key from the sticker on the laptop, and it seemed to accept it.

However after that I'm getting now pop up windows saying the key is not valid, and I (now) 19 days left to resolve the situation.

I can't afford to buy a new Windows key - what am I supposed to do?

The only available ISO images * for the general public * to Windows 7 directly from Microsoft would need to enter your product key to make sure that you download the correct edition.

I would try to change your product key via the given method, just to be sure and have someone else read the product key for you when you enter.

  • Why can't I do a clean install on my Dell laptop?

I bought a Dell Inspiron 17R laptop SE 7720 computer a few months ago. I would like to do a clean install with the installation disc that Dell sent me for the computer. But, when I try to install Windows 7 the DART player does not appear in the select drive window to install. The window is empty. I put the driver CD that was sent with the disc of Windows 7 Instillation. And it says drivers not found. I installed systems before, but I've never run it before. Hope that it helps. Maybe someone else has gone through this.

When you install Windows, the installation disc normally contains the drivers required to run your disk controllers HARD is connected to, and as such, you will see the HARD drive and be able to create partitions, etc as and install.

If for any reason, the controller drivers are not on the installation disc, you will not see the HARD drive and have nothing to the partition. This lack of a good pilots can occur if the controller is a RAID card or the motherboard controller manages the RAID functionality and installation disc doesn't know about them.

Normally drives OEM must contain all the drivers for your specific hardware, so maybe you have the wrong disc or the disc has not been good...

To work around this problem, when Windows Installer boots drive upward, you always get an option to press F6 and then load the appropriate drivers for the controller used (for the motherboard or raid card).

Not knowing your laptop card mother, I assume you have a chipset intel AHCI + RAID features. You can check this by starting at the current operating system and looking at the Device Manager where you should see "Standard dual channel PCI IDE Controller" or "Intel Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset STAT RAID Controller". If you see the later, you must find the Dell IRST driver and download it. Yes, you have TSRI and this driver should be correct.

After downloading, run the executable that should create directories, to not proceed with the installation. Check to see if there is a Readme in the directory created and/or an F6 disk (or something similar) directory. Read the "readme." If there is a floppy F6 directory, place this directory on a USB key and when you start windows installation disc, press F6 and insert the stcik USB into the laptop and go to the F6 floppy disk to the USB directory by selecting the appropriate drivers. Windows Installer should then continue and you should see your HARD drive.

Once you have installed Windows, make another trip to the dell laptop driver page and update all the relevant drivers to the most recent available

    I hope this helps...

    Additional information:

Computers, which are built by large manufacturers provided with pre-installed Windows are supplied with 2 two product keys:

OEM SLP: This key comes pre-installed in Windows, when it comes to the factory. This key is designed to work with the special instructions isn't on the hardware of this manufacturer. Then, when Windows was installed using the OEM SLP (in factory) Windows 7 key leans on the motherboard and he sees special instructions and activates. (that's why you had no need to turn on your computer after you brought it home)

COA SLP: it's the product key that you see on the sticker on the side (or at the bottom, [or in the battery compartment]) of your computer. It is a valid product key, but must be used only in certain situations (for example, if the OEM SLP key stops automatic activation for a reason any). The key must be activated by phone. (Note: all manufacturers that use the SLP OEM system are bound by contract to include a certificate of Authenticity sticker (COA), which has a COA SLP key, on the computer)

  • HDMI issues after a clean install of Windows 7 on laptop HP 2000-2c29WM

My mother bought a laptop of HP 2000-2c29WM of Wal-Mart with 64-bit Windows 8 is installed. They asked me to install Windows 7 on it, so I did a clean install and have all the drivers available for the PC and the Device Manager indicates that all the drivers are correctly installed and up-to-date. All updates have been applied and everything, except HDMI and VGA ports are working properly. Please help because I am at a loss to know how to solve this problem. I am including the PC model number and product as well as the operating system it is running. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    Hello:

Have you installed the driver amd chipset and graphics driver amd?

First install the amd chipset driver and restart.  You want the first file on the Web page.

    http://support.AMD.com/en-us/download/chipset?OS=Windows 7-64

Then, download and install the graphics driver AMD Mobility Catalyst beta from the link below.

  • Can I use my Win 7 Upgrade disk to do a clean install on my desktop that my old laptop has now been destroyed. ?

Ok.. I bought a laptop with Vista pre installed Sony.

Then, I bought a copy of Win 7 Upgrade to upgrade, I did.
Shortly after, my laptop broke and I got a new laptop through my insurance company which had Win 7 pre installed. I just got a new desktop PC and was wondering if I could use my Win 7 Upgrade disk to do a clean install on my desktop that my old laptop has now been destroyed. ?

As long as the original computer disappeared, I think you can use the upgrade on another computer...
