Client light configurations... HOW!

Dear community of VMware,

Please this post if it was answered elsewhere (just a link to where he answered enough) one excuse, but I can not figure this out for the life of me.

First of all, let me mention where my small media/production company uses VMware products.

At present, we have a small collection of IBM servers, running (x 2) all hearts Xeons, 16 GB of RAM and attached to the promise vTraks via iSCSI. They all run ESX 3.5 and have several invited computers that host our e-mail, web server system and one dozen other specialized servers that work for most of the essential production owner application.

We will be soon retiring these machines for those newer / faster, and I want to use them at home for administrative staff offices.

I read several whitepapers touting the benefits and successes of the use of VMware to offer environments of office throughout hospitals etc.. How do? All items are very low on the technical details, and all the details of VMware are all bearings and no architecture.

  • (1) what software is used on the server? I guess it's ESX 3.5 on a single server, and then another machine manages, distributes and provides sessions. Is this good?

  • (2) what are the people who use the light client side? If I use normal PC with Windows XP, then load the guest operating system, that the only advantage of the use of VMware, the solution is management, which is not very convincing as a solution.

What I'm really trying to do is to minimize the cost of the deployment of 20 desktops throughout our office, and a light low-cost customer solution is extremely attractive. Using VMware is preferred because I want to offer different operating systems to each Member of the staff like Linux / Open Office will work very well for 70% XP and clients for the 30%. I also want to each Member of staff to have their 'own' environment.

I am not advocating a complete consultation because it is something I would expect someone to charge (and I really believe in paying consultants), but maybe it's a white paper that is detailed enough that I'd be capable of establishing a test environment, so then I could present the idea to other people in society.

Thank you!

I thought you wanted to provide Linux virtual desktops to thin clients... not virtual Windows desktops to Linux customers any.

Yes, Linux supports RDP client-side.

Virtualization is a trip, so this project is still ongoing (as it's more for many virtual infrastructure)

Massimo.

  • Catch 22 - Port Trunk Configurations: how to combine identifiers VLAN native with DHCP (but allows traffic of VM)

Catch 22 - Port Network Configurations: how to combine identifiers VLAN native with DHCP (but allow the virtual computer)

I came across a Catch 22.  Maybe someone can restore the directly here.  I found a "witch hunt" for sure.

It comes with the Ports of junction on the side of the switch of the ESX host network.

    Context:

Ok. The Setup is a HP Blade C7000 enclosure.  I try to configure ports for switching to the blades.  ESX 3.5 U4 will be installed the BL460cs.  Installation is preferred method: revive unattended.  No problem with the syntax of Kick-Start,

I am here, it's the side network.

    The problem:

I find a major complication in that the switch ports must be configured for both traffic Service Console and VMkernel, more Virtual Machine since only two NICs by blade. Not best practices, but we have only two switches Cisco 3020 inside.  The two uplink physical NIC is paired in the same vSwitch.  (No iSCSI does fortunately).

So the Catch 22 question is as follows:

If the id VLAN native set up on the switch port, DHCP works of course and the VMware boot loader is able to grasp a binary / packets on the network (FTP Site) and install OK.  But after no installation, no communication with SC unless I set the VLAN id of the SC to '0 '.  The value "4" 0 does not communication, but "40" is the VLAN native.

If id configuring VLAN native retired from the Switch port, DHCP will not work and host does not have IP address during the VMware boot process.  This is as expected as traffic without label is not assigned an eligible

    VLAN, so no comms.

The Port of the Switch configuration:

    interface GigabitEthernet0/16

    SERVERNAME description

    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

    switchport trunk vlan native 40

    switchport trunk allowed vlan 40-254

    switchport mode trunk

    switchport nonegotiate

    Speed 1000

    No cdp enable

    spanning tree portfast trunk

    end

    Summary

OK, let's summarize where things are and if possible please attach responses to their digital identity.

    (1) is there a way to delete the VLAN tagging altogether side ESX host? Not only the id '0 '. The problem is with clearly with the VLAN native defined as "40".  If "40" IDs specified on the Group of ports for the Service Console, no joy, no comms. If the id of '0' value, capable of ping gateway and communicate on the network.

    (2) what is the problem with the definition of VLAN native as "40" when the config for the switch port is set as VLAN native "40"?  Or if it was a problem?  Both parameters clearly do not work together.

    (3) a switch receiving a unmarked frame it will assign to the VLAN Trunk native. Ok. Trunking bases and why I need a VLAN specified on the port for DHCP native work.  But it seems that since the id VLAN is set manually even as VLAN native, closed communications and no traffic as possible.

    (4) executives made tag 802. 1 q VLAN native?  I think that it is not and this could well be the problem. Since the id VLAN "40" is not labeled, but try to score the side host vSwitch port group.

Please let me know your thoughts, community and how in general, we are approaching 2 NIC ESX configurations.

When trunking multiple VLANs, you either have a default VLAN is nothing is tagged, or you don't.  That's what the vlan native to you, it defines which VLAN would be used if no tag is visible on the packets traversing the network.  For servers, if you are marking, then everything has to tag, if you're not marking at the server level, then the port must be either an access port or a VLAN native or default must be set.  I also don't keep your service console the same network as your vm.  Keep this isolated for the security of the network.  If you isolate this VLAN, you can separate and use a single IP address for installation and one for post construction.

Or, you can provide an IP address during the build.

    Hello

We just bought some HP t520s to complete a lab that we t510s.  The t510s work very well.  The t520s are almost here.  I just need to hide a pesky startup screen.  When the t520 marketing and gets to the GUI, but before that the network is connected, it displays a splash screen telling me that his "waitting for the network.  Unfortunately, this splash screen also has a button called "network settings."  This button, this bad boy is what I want to disable delete or hide.  I don't care if the start screen appears or not, but in giving users access to network settings and host name and all sorts of settings is a waitting accident to happen.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get rid of this button?  I would really appreciate hints, ideas, comments or words of wisdom on this topic.

Try the following: in xterm type regeditor, go to config-Assistant, enablenetworkcheck the value 0, enableupdatecheck the value 0, the network/update dialog box will not be displayed. You must type the value in the value dialog box and click on save before you go to the following registry key. If this does not work as expected please open a case with www.hp.com/go/support

  • Client pix VPN how to authenticate with Active Directory

Hi all, I've just set up my first Client VPN on a Cisco PIX. Everything works very well so that hitting the correct subnet and logon. However, I would like to see how I can get my connection of remote users with there active directory accounts. Right now I use the local connection for the pix for testing purposes. Sounds easy, but I'm missing something

    We use:

    Cisco Pix 515E version 6.3 (3)

    Thank you

    Dan

Unfortunately the PIX 6.3.3 version does not support Active Directory authentication. V6.3.3 PIX only supports authentication to the server database, radius, and Ganymede local PIX.

If you want to authenticate to active directory, it is support for PIX v7.x go.

Here are the different types of authentication support for PIX v7.x leave for your reference:

  • HP Officejet Pro 8610: Unclear Instructions online, using the phone fax configuration, how to print envelopes

Terminology used in the instructions I'm not familiar with.

    Hi @chazz85,

I'd be more than happy to help you with your configuration envelopes and printing of fax.

Are there specific terminology that you want me to explain?

Let's start with the implementation of the fax machine.

The best market-well because it is in this document to set up a new Fax.

For me to simplify this configuration for you, I would need to learn more about the installation of your home Tel/fax line.

    • Is he a dedicated phone line? Only used for faxing.
    • Or is it a shared phone line? Phone and Fax.
    • Is your analog phone provider (typical telephone lines) or digital? (Cable connection)

    If the row is shared;

    • You have the distinctive ring service? 2 numbers, same phone line that present different ringtone profiles to indicate the type of incoming call
    • You have an answering machine? An answering voice calls in the same phone number you use for fax calls.
    • You have voicemail? A subscription to voicemail service using the same phone number as the fax.

    The (Simplified) recommended configuration would be;

    1. Telephone jack in the wall (RJ11) connected to line 1 on the printer using the cable provided in the box with the printer

      Then, if any;

    2. Port 2 - EXT on the back of the printer connected to the answering machine (using a phone cable)
    3. Your phone will then connect on the answering machine (once again using any phone cable)

Once I have more information about your setup I can help you further.

    Now for printing the envelope.

    I recommend the user to the 8610 Guide to show you how to correctly load an envelope. I copied the steps here for you;

NOTE: If your printer has a second tray (tray 2), do not insert the envelopes for printing in this slot.

    1. remove the main input tray. Remove all existing paper from the tray.

    2. Insert the envelopes facing print down and charge according to the chart. Make sure that the stack of envelopes does not exceed the lower line of the marking in the status bar. For more information, see the diagram engraved in the status bar.

NOTE: Do not load envelopes while the printer prints.

    3. slide the paper width guides in the tray until they touch the edge of the stack of envelopes, then re-insert the tray.

    4. remove the output tray extension until the planned paper size is reached.

I need to know what program you are trying to print from. If it's Microsoft Word, I find this document print an envelope very useful.

If it's another program, you can try the manual suggests.

1 load the envelopes face to print down in the status bar.

    2. in the menu file in your software, click print.

    3. make sure that your printer is selected.

    4. click on the button that opens the Properties dialog box. Depending on your software application, this button can be called properties, Options, configure the printer, printer, printer or preferences.

    5. Select the appropriate options.

    • Under the layout tab, select Portrait orientation or landscape .
    • On the paper/quality tab, select the paper type appropriate media drop-down list in the area of selection of the status bar, and then select the appropriate, print quality in the quality settings area.
    • Click on the Advanced button in the paper/output box, select the size of paper in the paper size drop-down list.

    6. click OKand then click print or OK in the print dialog box.

Please let me know if these steps solved your problem, or if there is anything else I can do to help.

I look forward to hear from you!

    Thank you

  • Web client - System Configuration node displays 'Unknown' for the Uptime and the workload, no value for IP & Hostname

When I connect on our vCenter 6 Update 1 device (embedded PSC) via the Web Client with integrated Active Directory ID, select "System Configuration", then select the node for vCenter, summary screen displays all the information IP or host name.  In addition, the status of availability and workload for storage/memory/swap/load of work view all 'unknown '.  See attached photo for reference.

All values under management-> settings are also empty.

When I login with [email protected], all the above values are displayed and I can change the settings of the device of vCenter as expected.  This made me suspect a permission problem exists, but I cannot know what SSO group to add our AD is less to enable management or control of the aircraft from vCenter for that it works as expected.

Already tried to add our accounts to the following groups in SSO under the vsphere.local domain:

    DCAdmins

    SystemConfiguration.Administrators

    ComponentManager.Administrators

    Directors

This information on the purpose of each group unfortunately did not help me understand which could apply:

Groups in the field of vsphere.local

Thank you very much for the help!

I just did some digging on this myself (we deployed now U2 6.0) after I tried the same things (adding AD users in the SSO domain groups, etc. etc.) without success.

What I have found is that it is simply a WELL-KNOWN PROBLEM with 6.0 U2 and maybe they'll fix with U3 6.0 when that comes out (later this summer)?  Maybe it'll be 6.5 at that time, with an announcement to the VMworld 2016 or something - who knows.

The workaround is a joke--suggesting the deployment using only the SSO domain by default.  Well, which is never going to happen naturally, so he says as a workaround is, if you really need to get and display status, etc. from the web client, you simply connect with your [email protected] account that was created at the initial time of installation.

  • vSphere Client Plugins Web - how to debug the Flex INTERFACE

    Hello:

It seems that, in order to develop, Flex at base of plugins using the vSphere Client Plugins SDK Web and get 'full integration', the developer is encouraged to use a MVC framework which is part of the SDK. In addition, I see things that seem to indicate that, once the plugin is runing in the context of the VC, actions will be triggered by the context running, etc...

It may seem that in order to develop a base Plugin, the user interface must be developed, compiled and deployed each time.

How should we do about writing a typical user interface application where the developer is able to set breakpoints, etc...? I can do it now if I do not use the hooks of VmWare, such as previously mentioned, but what if I wanted to exploit the pegs supplied?

Thanks in advance for the help.
