Cloning of cold

Hi all;

I'm a cold cloning.  my original database is in "No. ARCHIVE LOG" .

When executing create control file, I have not any out or any error. I've waited a long time.

  • As no data loss will synchronize during P2V?

    Hello

    We are using Converter Standalone 5.5.2 and running a P2V of a physical Machine.  And we are reducing the size of an HD (database of SQL Server running), as our SAN is short of space, and so the synchronization cannot be enabled.

    We would like to ask for your opinion

    (1) the State of HD on the virtual computer is that when we start the P2V process?

    (2) any changes made to the SQL Server database between the P2V process will be lost?

    It would be better if a cold Clone to do in this situation?

    Thank you

    Hello

    This is correct, that data on the volume will be at the beginning of the conversion.

    Cloning of cold is not supported for a long time and the old converter is not available for download. Not to mention cold clone requires the computer to shut down. You can stop SQL Server only during the conversion.

    Alternatively, you can possibly keep the size of the volume and use a provisioning. This will work if the volume size is no bigger than the size of the data store (only larger than its free space) and the volume is too fragmented, meaning that it is empty after a certain point.

  • cold cloning .iso

    How can we get their hands on the cold cloning .iso image?  The docs say download VMware vCenter Converter 4.1.x edition and extract the .iso image file, but could not find this version anywhere.

    Prepare for cold cloning

    VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 4.2 does not support cold cloning, you must use the Boot CD

    an earlier edition of Converter vCenter. Features supported on the boot CD depend on the version of the product

    you choose.

    VMware vCenter Converter 4.1.x edition isn't a free software product.

    Procedure

    1 to get a bootable CD, go to the download of the VMware Web site and download vCenter Converter 4.1.x

    installation.

    2 extract the Boot CD .iso from the installation package.

    3. write the file .iso Boot CD on a CD.

    What to do next

    Follow the instructions on the screen to a cold cloning.

    You must obtain a license for the ESX enterprise.   If so, then your account will allow you to download the ISO of cold Clone

  • Cloning by rman on a different server with the directory structure different and different DBNAME in EBS 11i using quick Clone

    Hello

    We want only DB (not apps) cloning through PROD rman, step TEST EBS 11i using quick Clone without taking downtime of PROD (i.e. No. BKP COLD).

    Source and target are on different servers, different file structure and the different database name.

    Kindly let me know the detailed procedure?

    Kind regards

    RR

    You can use this simple method that I am.

    Take backup of production with rman:

    {

    overlap archivelog all;

    backup format compressed backupset database tag PROD_FULLBKP ' / u10/PROD1_L0_BKUP_20131125/PROD_DB_set%s_piece%p_%T_%U' filesperset 15;

    SQL 'alter database backup controlfile to trace. "

    SQL 'alter system switch logfile;

    SQL 'alter system switch logfile;

    SQL 'alter system switch logfile;

    overlap archivelog all;

    backup as compressed backupset archivelog all delete input PROD_ARCHBKP format tag ' / u10//PROD1_L0_BKUP_20131125/ARCH_PROD_set%s_piece%p_%T_%U' filesperset 20;

    backup format ' / u10/PROD1_L0_BKUP_20131125/PROD_ctl_%T_%U' current controlfile;

    }

    Move the backup on the test server:

    SCP /ftp

    Modify the pfile to the test server:

    Parameters such as:

    db_name

    control_files

    modify the pfile to match the location of the test server

    Add this parameter

    db_file_name_convert = ' / PROD_datafile_location/datafile ', ' / test_datafile_location / data ', ' / PROD_datafile_location/tempfile ', ' / test_datafile_location / data.

    log_file_name_convert = ' / PROD_redofile_location/ONLINELOG ', ' / test_redofile_location / data ".

    Start the DB:

    Start the db in nomount:

    startup nomount.

    Connecting to rman and start to restore:

    Auxiliary RMAN.

    RMAN > run

    {

    allocate auxiliary channel a1 device type disk;

    allocate auxiliary channels a2 device type disk;

    allocate auxiliary channel a3 device type disk;

    allocate auxiliary channel a4 device type disk;

    data duplicated in the PREPRODUCTION backup location ' / u10/PREPRODUCTION/oraR12/clone_backup/PROD1_L0_BKUP_20131125 ";

    }

    OR

    If you specify time/perform a recovery of time based, like below:

    RMAN > run

    {

    allocate auxiliary channel a1 device type disk;

    allocate auxiliary channels a2 device type disk;

    allocate auxiliary channel a3 device type disk;

    allocate auxiliary channel a4 device type disk;

    data duplicated in PREPRODUCTION backup location 'LOCATION_OF_BACKUP', until ' TO_DATE (7 July 2012 09:45 ',' DD/MM/YYYY HH24:MI:SS') ";

    }

  • Names of files does not change cold SVMotion

    Aloha,

    According to the present- http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2008877

    If my name is not synchronized with the corresponding folder and file names, do a cold SVMotion should rename the folder and file names the same as the display name. I just tried this, and only the name of the modified folder. Anyone else having the same problem?

    And oh yes - using 5.0 U1.

    Mahalo,

    Bill

    Hi Kahonu,

    The KB (1029513) that you reference apply to versions previous of ESX/ESXi only 5, you can also see the introductory text that migration can cold rename files. Here is the full text:

    KO 1029513

    Note: storage/Cold Storage vMotion or using the console only renames the folder names and not the files in ESXi 5.0. This behavior has been changed to support DRS on ESXi 5.0 storage. For more information, see vSphere 5 Storage vMotion is not renaming the files of virtual machine on the completion of the migration (2008877).

    A virtual machine files can be renamed during a migration operation of disc, as the Migration of the cold storage, or by manually renaming their place in the ESXi/ESX console. Select your preferred method.

    Alternatively, a virtual machine can be cloned to a new virtual machine using the Clone method in vCenter Server or using vCenter Converter and remove the old virtual machine.

    The text begins by ensuring that you understand that in ESXi 5.0, the file names are not changed. I agree, the information below is a bit ambiguous and something VMware should clarify by saying perhaps "for previous versions of ESX/ESXi, virtual machines..." ».

  • What is 'Migration to cold with resettlement of the file'?

    Hello

    I just read http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1005241 on the migration of virtual machines with attached RDM. The document states that the following is true when you are migrating cold with moving file.

    When you are migrating cold a VM with RDM attached to it, the content of the raw LUN mapped by ROW is copied into a new hard to destination file, effectively converting or cloning a raw LUN in a virtual disk. This also applies when the virtual machine is not moving between ESX hosts. In this process, your raw LUN origin is left intact. However, the virtual machine is more reads or writes to it. Instead, the newly created virtual disk is used.
    I just tested this and migrated cold a VM with vRDM attached to another data store. However, the vRDM has not converted to a virtual drive, but remained as a vRDM. Is the "Cold Migration with file transfer" something different than right-clicking on the VMS in vCenter, choose "migrate" then 'Datastore change' or 'change of host and data store '?
    Thank you
    Michael

    Hello

    Glad to hear that it worked for you, yes the document isn't very desciptive processes to do it, the only reason that I know how to do it is previous experience.

  • RAC RAC CLONE OF RMAN cold backup

    Hi all

    I need your help in my Oracle RAC 11.2.0.2 to remote host environment cloning. Here's the disc structure

    DGVOT (disc ASM holding OCR and voting disk group)
    DGDATA (disk group ASM containing data files)
    DGFRA (disk group ASM files for fast recovery)

    Remote host is on a different location so cannot use duplicate RMAN with auxiliary channel.
    Have the luxury of downtime so I wanted to take coherent RMAN (Cold Backup)

    SAME structure of the disc is available on remote hosts.

    11.2.0.2 CLusterware (IG) over the oracle binaries are already installed.

    Can any body tell me the steps to
    (1) how to take cold backup on the disk so that I can tar and copy to the remote host
    (2) clone of the database on the remote host
    (3) how do I add the listener for the database and other resources of this databasee clusterware.

    in fact, it's my first clone CARS, so I'm well aware of the steps in detail.

    I went though a lot of notes metalink but nobody fits my needs. your tips will help me a lot

    Kind regards

    Hello

    (1) how to take cold backup on disk so that I can tar and copy to the remote host.

    Use Rman cold backup

    At the stage of the mountain run
    RMAN > backup database archivelog format '%U /dbp ";
    RMAN > backup controlfile current format "%U /ctl";

    Copy these to the remote host backup sets

    (2) clone of the database on the remote host

    Create groups of similar ASM disk as source
    create pfile/spifile, starting in nomount mode instance
    backup set from catalog

    RMAN > catalogue start with "";

    Restore controlfile

    RMAN > restore controlfile;

    RMAN > restore database;

    RMAN > restore database;

    On the success of the recovery

    RMAN > sql 'alter database open;

    (3) how do I add the listener for the database and other resources of this databasee clusterware.

    Srvctl user to add resources

    Use: srvctl []
    orders: activate | Disable | Start | stop | move | status | Add | Remove | change | getenv | setenv | unsetenv | config | convert | upgrade
    objects: database | instance. service | nodeapps | VIP | network | ASM | diskgroup | listener | srvpool | Server | scan | scan_listener | oc4j. House | filesystem | GNS | CVU
    To get detailed help on each command and each object and its use of options:

  • Database cloning strategy

    Hello

    I have the database of production (1102.0.3.0) in Windows 2008 server R2 64 bit version. My database has some patterns which also partition tables and links Db and the views of M.
    Now my team leader asked me to install the same environment (such as cloning) in the test environment. I have a lot of options to create the same configuration database using options such as Import/export, data pump, Rman backup to hot and cold.

    My doubt is which option will best and optimal to achieve the same?
    can someone tell me in what approach I should proceed?

    Thank you and best regards,
    Vikash Jain (Junior DBA)

    Salvation;

    1. you can go with data pump
    2. you can go with rman(restore/recover)
    3. you can go with the clone process

    I suggest you go with option 3 or 1 (I chose option 3). Please see:

  • Converter offline iso cold

    Hello

    I would like to find a way to get iso cold start VMware Converter.

    I can't find any good information about it, even if you can read this here

    ' Is there a compatibility list for VMware vCenter Converter, similar to the one for P2V Assistant? . " There is no list of hardware compatibility for VMware vCenter Converter. VMware vCenter Converter supports and recognizes most of the types of server hardware. VMware vCenter Converter provides two mechanisms of cloning: cloning (live migration) and cold cloning (cloning using a BootCD) Hot. With hot cloning, VMware vCenter Converter communicates directly with the guest running on the physical computer operating system source as such has no direct hardware level dependencies. With cold cloning, VMware vCenter Converter BootCD provides a boot environment to Windows PE, which provides support for the latest hardware and is thus able to recognize most physical server systems. For cases where the VMware vCenter Converter BootCD does not recognize the physical hardware source, VMware provides a utility that allows administrators to download the necessary storage and drivers card network provider's Web site and the downloaded drivers to inject into the BootCD distribution. This can be used to create a new Converter BootCD image that will help recognize the system hardware. "

    Thank you for your answers...

    Hello

    To download the converter cold clone cd, I guess you need log in the portal to vmware.com and you need VMware vCenter Enterprise Edition to get an option to download the cd.

    Hope this information helps

  • Doubt on cloning

    Hi all

    Our production database is using newspaper archive and we'll take cold and RMAN backup daily weekly backup. After taking cold backup and create a new instance with cold backup using quick clone, the new instance doesnot a log mode archive programmed in initSID.ora file, some would explain the reason.

    Kind regards
    Charan.

    After taking cold backup and create a new instance with cold backup using quick clone, the new instance doesnot a log mode archive programmed in initSID.ora file, some would explain the reason.

    This is an expected behavior as quick Clone does not allow default archivelog mode and you have to manually enable once you are done with the cloning.

  • Cold clone P2V Windows Small Business SERVER 2003?

    Hello

    Our small business runs a windows server sbs 2003 running exchange and the domain controller.

    I read on the forums that it is not recommended to P2V one domain controller and I know to do a conversion, while the host is running, causing errors. But what could be the problem cold cloning the machine and then initialize in esxi? I do not understand the consequences, should not simply be like turn the physical machine and the new? I don't see myself messages in forums to say "don't not P2V a domain controller", but I have not seen someone tell why and if they do hint only 'hot cloning. "

    (Sorry if this sounds ignorant, I'm not much more than a windows guy and would prefer not to have to do a full migration if I have to).

    Thank you, any help is great

    Still, it's true that it's a good idea not to do a P2V of a domain controller... But if it is the only one, and if you do it in a cold way, and if you remember to start with the right time/clock... so you can try the way.

    The other solution might be using Microsoft documentation how to an SBS SBS migration (to migrate to a new SBS in a virtual machine). But isn't very simple
