  I can still see the close buttons on all tabs with browser.tabs.closeButtons = 1, unless there are several tabs open.

  Just click Project > Preferences... > Start and End tab and configure the action for when the film ends as "close project". Then, configure this button "Don't agree" to simply jump to the last slide. You may want to even make this last slide really short of a calendar view. Maybe 1 or more seconds.
