COM Surrogate if you stop, explore Crash

Over the past week, I had a serious problem with my laptop.

Whenever I try to open the files image or video, play games, install the new software/updates, I get an error "COM Surrogate has closed", resulting in the Explorer crashing.

This happens several times in a row, and more recently, it has caused the Java to do the same thing.

I read on all Web sites on the issue, tried all the remedies, without success, including the CMD commands, etc.

Whenever I try to add the COM Surrogate DEP exclusions, Explorer crashes and must restart. I also can not delete all the files, if they are the image files, .exe for updates, videos, whatever it is.

The analysis through the command prompt resulted in a message there were errors and that they have been resolved and I had to reboot.

I rebooted and the problem persists. I have also restarted with a clean reboot and still the same issue

I rolled back to a previous restore point, and which had no effect either.

This all started when I installed the latest round of Windows updates.

I'm at my wit's end, I can't seem to find a solution.

Running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64 bit

AMD C - 50 1 GHz dual core

4 GB of RAM

6250-M AMD

I am running for the safety of MS Scanner and will update as soon as it's over.

There was this recurring error in the event viewer:

The ScRegSetValueExW call failed for FailureActions with the following error:
Access is denied.

This error may be to have installed Panda as suggested in the following link:

http://support.pandasecurity.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=2402

Panda can prevent access to the registry and may affect the installation of the AMD graphics driver.

I would say, at least temporarily, to uninstall panda and see if you can install the graphics driver from AMD.

Consider the alternative security such as Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows built-in firewall software.

Also many applications were crashing with ntdll.dll, a component of Windows however another module as a module of AMD could actually cause accidents.

After return if application errors continue.

    Hello

Thanks for posting the query on Microsoft Community. You have reached the right place. Let us work together to find the cause of this problem and try to solve.

Game in which you try to read?

The COM Surrogate is a fancy name for sacrificial processes for a COM object that is running outside the process which has asked. Explorer uses the COM Surrogate during extraction of thumbnails, for example. If you go to a folder with thumbnails enabled, Explorer will trigger a COM Surrogate and use it to calculate the thumbnails for documents in the folder. It does because Explorer has learned not to trust miniature extractors; they have a poor track record of stability. Explorer has decided to absorb the decline in performance in Exchange for increased reliability resulting by moving these dubious bits of code on the process of the master browser. When the Thumbnail Extractor crashes, the crash destroyed the COM Surrogate process instead of explore.

The issue could also be some third-party programs, the origin of the problem. Clean boot helps eliminate conflicts of software that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows. You can also troubleshoot or determine what conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot.

    Hi kenneth,.

Do you know when this problem started?  Try a system restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem started.  Here is the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html.  Don't forget to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points.  If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two.  NOTE: You will need to re - install any software and updates that you have installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for updates.

If this does not work or you do not have a restore point will come back enough, check out the following article on this error and a few solutions: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/fix-for-com-surrogate-has-stopped-working-error-in-vista/.

If that doesn't work, first make sure that Vista is up-to-date on all service packs and updates and then try the new Windows Live Photo Gallery Windows Essentials: http://explore.live.com/windows-live-photo-gallery?os=other who can not only solve the problem, but can improve your experience with her because she is improved and strengthened.

  • COM Surrogate has stopped working suddenly?

I had my PC Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit since March, 2012.

Tonight, October 17, 2014, I started getting an error "COM Surrogate has stopped working" pop up, all the time, for no apparent reason.

I can not play with Windows Media Player AVI files without this message and ALSO a message that WMP has ALSO stopped working.

I can't play AVI files in right click on the video and using 'Play with WMP Basic' without also getting this message as soon as I do a right click.

I don't know if it's related, but since YESTERDAY I can't load YAHOO! in Internet Explorer. The page will simply not load, so I can't check my email official, formal and work-related.

Chrome works very well, so I CAN access YAHOO! my general, leisure, pleasure and e-mails related to the game.

I always allow upgrades of Windows, so I don't understand why it started to happen out of the blue.

I have a current Antivirus with BitDefender Total Security and perform regular maintenance.

Any suggestions on a fix for this?

    Thank you very much

    (Moved to programs)

The first error points to the ffdshow.ax:

    Fault Module name: ffdshow.AX
    Fault Module version: 1.3.0.0
    Module Timestamp error: 53aedcb1

The second error points to the avformat-lav - 55.dll:

    Fault Module name: avformat-lav - 55.dll
    Fault Module version: 55.43.100.0
    Module Timestamp error: 00029000

The ffdshow.ax and avformat-lav - 55.dll can be components of a pack of codecs such as the K-Lite Codec Pack.

Codec packs are / are installed?

You can uninstall the codec packs and see if the error resolves?

Unfortunately, DivX and Xvid are not well taken in charge, or not at all. Some have had better luck with pre 9.0.1, but they are few.

In order to ensure that things are as good as they get, I follow the steps described in this ARTICLE and also make sure you have the latest version of the DivX CODEC installed.

  • Windows Explorer crashes when you open any folder with MPEG2 files.

WinXP SP3 - When you open any folder with MPEG2 files, windows Explorer crashes. If the folder contains only the MPEG1 files, it opens without a problem. We first thought it was a problem of media player, but we can not even click on a file to open it in media player.

    Hi kathyd,.

    ·        You did changes to the computer before this problem started?

Since we do not know what is causing this problem, I'd suggest unanimous the event viewer on your computer and check the details in the window logs messages/error codes important related to the question, during the time where this problem occurs and after return.

Event logs can help you identify and diagnose the source of current system problems or help you predict potential system problems.

Access the link below to learn how to view and manage the event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

    http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/event_overview_01.mspx?mfr=true

You can try to start both computers in safe mode and check if it can open the folder where the MPEG 2 files are stored and if windows Explorer crashes. To boot to the desktop in safe mode keep tapping key F8 during restart. Once you see the option to start in safe mode select and press to enter.

I hope this helps. Post back with the required information.

Original title: popup Windows Com Surrogate has stopped working? What dose that mean? Also computer very slow suggestions?

This popup comes in at any time and have noticed the computer has been running for extremelyslow. Also Windows will open programs without asking for confirmation. When I run analysis said updates I'm uptodate and the functioning of the system. Any suggestions?

    Hello

    Com Surrogate has stopped working:

Were there any changes (hardware or software) to the computer before the show?

Start the computer in safe mode and see if the problem persists. If the issue is not perist in safe mode, and then put the computer to boot and see if the problem still occurs.

Step 1: Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs do not work in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed.

Step 2: to help troubleshoot error messages and other issues, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: follow step 7 to reset the computer to start as usual after the boot process.

    Computer running extremely slow:

Perform the steps in the article mentioned below and check if the problem persists.

  • When you connect USB device, explore crash in Vista

I have a slow USB device, with some of the big files on it. When I plug in and go on the drive in Explorer, the little light on the device starts flashing like crazy, and explore stops for a minute.

There is a 12 MB file there, which takes about a minute to copy.

I want to watch a 16 k file that takes seconds to copy.
Is there a way to stop explore to copy all the contents of the disc on every time I look at the device?

I disabled these services in efforts to alleviate this problem; Windows Search and Superfetch, ReadyBoost.

Unfortunately, deleting the file is not an option. I'm willing to take a pretty big success in the overall performance to avoid wait a minute each time that I plug.

I have windows vista ultimate SP2.

Thanks in advance for your help

    Hi JackNeuberry,

    • Is what type of device exactly?

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    (a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    (b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.
