  I have a Compaq Presario CQ62-209WM.

  I recently had a problem with this computer where the screen would go completely black during start-up or process during recovery from sleep mode.

  I updated the Bios and the problem disappeared, but now there's another problem.

  Because the Bios has been updated, the computer turns on if the power cable is plugged. But if I turn it on and then unplug the cable, it works very well. It does not lose power and the battery holds its charge normally.

  My compaq presario cq62-231nr (product # XC434UA #aba) stopped working last week and I took it into the store of the computer it is diagnosed. They said that the hard drive has failed and they were unable to get all the files out of it. They wanted about $200 to fix so I just brought home. I bought a hard drive to it (500 GB hitachi) and when I install it myself. I have 4 dvd recovery disks that I made for her when I bought it there are 1 1/2 years. Never done this before so I am a little worried about smooth how it will go. My questions are:

  1-will the recovery discs works

  2 - 500 GB hard drive will I put actually no difference from the old hard drive was a 320 GB

  3 - What steps should I take after I put my hard drive in and start it (insofar as the use of the recovery discs)?

  4 - I need a key at any time in this process? I don't have one that I know of.

  When you turn on your PC for the first time after installing the new hard drive, you must press the F9 key to the HP welcome screen.

  This will give you a few startup options.  Your DVD player should appear as one of these options.

  Don't do anything about the selection who again. First, open the DVD drawer and insert the diskette 1 of your set of recovery disks. Close the door and wait a moment – just a few seconds.

  Then select the DVD - ROM drive in the list of the bootable devices in the list of startup options.

  Follow the instructions on the screen.

  You never know how long will last the electrical components.  This is why it is always advisable to keep the backup files.

  There's an old saying... "It is not a question of if a hard drive will fail, but a matter of time."

  You can virtually none of the PENRYN 45nm lithography processors put in it, the optimal processor, you can upgrade is the Intel core 2 duo t9500. I have the same laptop and I have the next step down from what is the Intel core 2 duo processor t9300. There is no complete list of the processors that it will support the lists that you will find are incomplete at best even Intel does not update their information. Go to intel.com and search PENRYN in a search more people you can use, you need to compare to ensure that.

  You replace the startup disk in the BIOS cd. Then boot from the XP CD. And press a button when it tells you. However, he will wipe away Windows 7. So, if you want anything copy everything you want (with the exception of programs), before formatting the hard disk.

  So, I have my other laptop, Compaq Presario CQ61. For like 5 or 6 months I had a lot of problems with it, like freezes, BSOD-s and not to forget that convenience store was down. I transferred all personal files on the external HARD disk and decided to reinstall Windows (7 - legal copy), hoping that the problem will be solved, but in vain. Finally, I installed Windows 8 Pro, because as said in the forums, people, it may be a problem with the installation disc. For like 4-5 days my HP laptop was running well, all the updates that are installed (haven't seen it lately), I just thought it was a miracle and my problem is solved. Today, he appeared. BSOD. After reinstall or to install both versions of Windows, I had, it is my belief that it is a hardware problem.   Thank you for visiting the Forums HP's Support and welcome. I looked in your question about your Compaq Presario CQ61 and works very well, and then get the BSOD and stop. I recommend to restore the default BIOS settings if you can get it to go to the screen. You could restore the BIOS with this document by selecting the reload the default BIOS settings. No restoration. Restore default BIOS is necessary because I think that this will solve the BSOD.

  Here is a link to solve the BSOD if the restoration of the BIOS does not help.

  If this does not help at the end of the document it tells you to do a test equipment.

  The hardware test indicates if any parts are missing or have problems.

  So I just joined here to see if anyone can help with my problem, because frankly, I'm out of options now about two weeks asking friends and colleagues and searching the Internet for answers to similar problems. I tried twice with the information I found on this site for quite some time and it does not work for me!

  In any case, I have a HP Compaq Presario CQ56 laptop. It has been implemented correctly when I bought it, everything worked perfectly. I managed to catch a virus that prevented me from even turn on my computer (which is strange, because I'm not a fool with computers, and I know what not to do/download sites to visit), so I had to restart my computer to stock, I used my Windows 7 disc, partitions formatted and installed windows again.

  Now, for some reason it doesn't connects wireless Internet. It connects when I have an ethernet cable connected, but it is not all networks, as shown in this screenshot:

  So you see my problem it is very frustrating. I don't know what is the cause, but I guess it must be a driver problem? Which is why I write here, if this is indeed in the wrong section, please accept my apologies.

  Hi melvingene, welcome on the basic behavior of HP you describe is more than a failure to market, as opposed to stuck in mode 'sleep'. With the flashing lights, it might alert you to a specific hardware problem. Try the troubleshooting described in this paper: computer does not start and the lights blink or the computer will beep

  If you do not started, you probably encounter some kind of hardware failure.
