Computer freezes for a security program installs updates XP

My computer is a HP Pavilion 733a decade, XP with SP3, and it has 512 MB of RAM (it is a little long in the tooth, but as a retired, that's all I can afford).  It also runs Microsoft Security Essentials.  I have automatic updates in the control panel the value, "Notify Me but don't automatically download or install»

Periodically, the computer is practically "picked up" by what seems to be security download and installation of updates.  Meanwhile, the hard drive works and any file or website, I'm trying, just of freezes and the forward symbol.  This process can continue for a few minutes, during which, I can't do anything.  At the end of the process, the old 3.5 "floppy drive (which I have never used), is accessible and then turns off the busy lamp, and everything returns to normal.  I was even online ebanking, and had interrupted the link, leaving the unfinished transaction, which was more disconcerting to say the least.

It seems that updates have been downloaded and installed, and then the computer either scans the files existing, or automatically switched off and re-boots.

Hoping someone can help,

Bernie.

    Thank you.

    Good,

    1:
Updated the chipset drivers even though it said I was with the best.

    2:
Run a SFC scan, which revealed no violations of integrity or files not repaired.

    3:
five hours and 8 infected files later, my computer is totally cleaned.

I opened the event viewer, but I don't know what I'm supposed to be looking for. There are many changes to the machine because it began to act up, which were intended to correct the problem. I installed the Service Pack 1, then 2, scan MS Safety and new chipset.

I also ran a memory diagnostic, but all was well.

What should I look for in the event viewer? I know that the problem started in a 12 hour window. Should I save and post the logs at the time?

  • roar of hard disk and the computer freezes for a few seconds

My hard drive makes a sound whirring for a few weeks now and when I type in emails or messages like this, the computer freezes for a few seconds. Any ideas how to fix this?

A desktop computer. Your problem could be overheating.

You must remove the side panel right and remove dirt dust bunnies fans. Also, make sure that all the fans are working. Safety switch the computer off and pull the power cable before removing the side panel. You can then move the computer backon and check that the fans are working.

Then, turn off the computer and some time for that cool. It is best to use a wrist band, which you set on the casing of the computer to you the earth before touching anything inside the envelope. You can buy one in a store of computer accessories. Static electricity can damage a motherboard if you don't take precautions.

Then, you use a small brush to remove the sheep of dust around the fan on the processor. I used an electric razor, cleaning brush. I use an Air blower to clean the power supply fan. An air Duster is also useful fopr cleaning keyboards.

Removal of the dust bunnies should reduce the noise that makes your computer. It can also reduce overheating, which can lead to errors of Blue Screen of Death.

Another way to check the hard disk to see if it is overheating is to use HD Tune 2.55 (free):

  • Computer, freeze, and Microsoft Security Essentials scan stop on this file each time: c:\Program HP Imaging\bin\hpqthb08.exe

My computer, one almost four years, Dell Inspiron 1454 with Windows XP Pro, continues to freeze when left to sit for a few minutes. Also, I discovered that when I run the Microsoft Security Essentials quick or full scan analyzing stops on the file HP Digital Imaging mentioned above several times.  I was wondering if this means something on the reason why the computer freezes up. Also, Windows Live Mail continually lets me know that it is "not responding." Yet once, I guess it's because of the freezing problem not Windows Live Mail is the cause. I do not know.  I made some different system using different dates restorations and who has not solved anything so far. I use the computer during a run without problem, but if I have a cup of coffee, for example, I have to restart when I return. Sometimes, the slider moves, sometimes not, but no matter the computer is unresponsive after that I took a break or just out of the blue when I try to open an e-mail or another task. I guess it's time for a Mac, but I thought I'd see if anyone has some ideas on how to solve this problem. Thank you!

    Hello, Olivia,.

This problem is probably due to an outdated HP Digital Imaging monitor. Even if you decided to switch to a Mac, the question may still popup because you have installed hpqthb08.exe.

Fortunately, there is an update that you can apply.

  • Computer freezes for a few seconds

My computer seems to freeze every 3-5 minutes for a few seconds (by what I can say, I can always communicate with things on the desktop, but nothing seems to move). I scanned my computer for malware (Nothing found) and my hard drive does not need to defragment.

    Why is this happening?

    I really appreciate the help.
Curiously, just a simple reboot fixed it.

Perhaps a task did not work properly and was playing with the GPU?

    In any case, thank you.

For example, while I am typing my computer freezes for a few seconds and I can't type or will not move the mouse. This lasts a few seconds but then starts to work again ok. This happens on every 10 minutes or so... enough to get on my nerves, especially at the time of the school. How can I fix? I also get a pop-up whenever I go to a new page. How can I stop this as well? I'd be so grateful for any help on this matter.

    Hello

What the popup say or lead?

Search for malware, and then run the cleaning as described below.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you need search malware here's my recommendations - they will allow you to
scrutiny and the withdrawal without ending up with a load of spyware programs running

    cause.

No one program cannot be used to detect and remove any malware. Added that often easy

    1. you have any anti-virus installed on the computer program?

After the upgrade to Win 8.1, I had some experiences with my computer freezing for 5 to 10 seconds every few minutes. Music continues to play, the cursor keeps blinking (although sometimes it freezes too) and the mouse can be moved, but try typing don't work and try to close, open, move or otherwise interact with the programs (applications office and modern) fails. Then, at the end of the gel in short, everything what has been done during freezing happens everything both. Restart breeze the trend until it starts again (sometimes hours later, other time days).

It seems to be overheating problems and SFC came clean the problem only arose recently (well that before, it happened sometimes with IE only but who stopped). I'm not running 3rd party antivirus and Defender is coming clean, and so have free McAfee scan.

My computer is a Dell XPS 1520 running Windows 8.1 update update 1.

One last note, the problem seems to occur sometimes when I use Windows built-in backup of the file system. I can't actually think any time it all started when I was not hung on the backup media, even if it persists after the disconnection. I used three different types of backup media, so I don't know if one of the drives is the cause, but I will deal with that now.
