  If you shut down a computer while it is busy to be updated, you can bribe and break completely erase all your files and data and having to get a professional service or replace this computer.

  You should contact Asus for help at this point and see if they can send you a recovery CD to use.

  In this case backup your data and use the Toshiba Recovery disk and reinstall Windows. It only takes a few minutes and not so long as trying to correct the problem.
  I think it would be the best solution because the same phenomenon occurs in safe mode and last known good configuration.

  It's the normal advice I'd give to record data; but we have no idea of the State of your hard drive.

  Saving your files:

  You can remove the hard drive and put it in a hard drive USB enclosure > plug it into another computer > and try to read and copy your data in this way.

  Or, you can download Knoppix > make a bootdisk to > start your system with it (IF your material is all work) > and copy your data from the hard drive like that.

  Yes, this says it's not compatible. So I don't think it'll work in Win7. There a firewire connection? If this is the case you can use it if the laptop has firewire top. All you need is a cable
