Computer message is very low on disk space

My pc says that I have a low disk space. I'm running on Windows X P. I have add remove programs and removed everything I can. However, after these actions, I went to my computer and click with the right button on properties, and yet no space has been released. I removed several large programs. What I did wrong or what did not? Someone please help me with this.

Please provide the capacity of your hard drive (C :) and the amount of free space on it.

I suggest you do this:

1. move the files of personal data such as videos, music, photos, etc. on another disk - for example, a flash USB, external hard drive, DVD drive. (copy the files then check that they are in the new location and work then remove the ones on the original hard disk).

2. run Disk CleanUp *.

3 * to defragment your hard drive.

* Please see: http://www.microsoft.com/atwork/maintenance/speed.aspx for the method.

Do not be tempted to use the 3rd party or optimizers of PC registry cleaners - they often do more harm than good.

First of all, please note that you are confusing memory with disk space. The term 'memory' is used to designate the place where the computer contains the program and data, that it is working with at the moment. It is normally a memory (RAM), but which can be extended with the page or swap hard disk file. The word 'memory' is never used to refer to the space on a drive (if it is a hard drive, floppy disk, CD, DVD or thumb drive). Space on a hard disk is normally called "storage" or simply "disk space".

Call for 'memory' disk space is not so wrong that just unconventional. In a sense, the disk space is, of course, memory, but the important thing to realize is that the word is never used in this way, and if you do, you do so at the risk of seriously confuse your audience.

So, since you get a "low disk space" message , please tell us what is your hard drive, how it it used and how much is free.

Second, do * not * run a registry cleaner! Registry cleaning programs are * all * snake oil. The registry cleaning is not necessary and dangerous. Let alone register and do not use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, and what software record cleaning providers are trying to you convince to have used the registry entries is not really make you hurt.

The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner by mistake delete an entry you need is much greater than any potential benefit it may have.

    Read http://www.edbott.com/weblog/archives/000643.html

    and http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099

    and also http://blogs.technet.com/markrussinovich/archive/2005/10/02/registry-junk-a-windows-fact-of-life.aspx

Let me stress that neither me nor anyone else who warns against the use of registry cleaners has never said that they always cause problems. If they have always caused problems, they would disappear from the market almost immediately. Many people have used a registry cleaner and never had a problem with it.

The problem with a registry cleaner is that it carries with it the essential * risk * to have a problem. And since there is no advantage to using a registry cleaner, running the risk is a very bad deal.

  • Message "you run lack of disk space on RECOVERY (d :))".

    From: Robert judge

On my new VISTA PC, I tried to use the built-in backup program.  The back-up apparently failed because there is not enough room on the "RECOVERY disk (d).

Now, when I restart my new VISTA PC, I get this message:

"Low Disk Space you run lack of disk space on RECOVERY (d). To free up space on this drive by deleting old or unnecessary files, click here... »

When I "click here," I gave then "disk for RECOVERY (D :). cleanup.  Disk Cleanup offers "Office installation files" and "Basket", but both have "0 bytes" so I can't free up space in this way.

When I open the backup and Restore Center and try to back up files, the program starts by "creating a shadow copy.  However, I then get a message:

"An error has occurred...". There is not enough space to save the backup files.

Free some disk space or change your backup settings. (0x81000005).»

If I have little space on"RECOVERY", I only need saved Documents.  But even when I check only the 'Documents', I get the same error message.

I think that I should delete the contents of the D RECOERY and try again.  However, there seems to be some files that are already installed on RECOVERY D.  However, I see a folder called "game 2008-06-08 backup 193208," which I suppose is the backup failed I tried on 6 June.  Should I just remove this folder and try again?  Or y at - it another way I should try to use the program "backup and restore"?  I'd appreciate advice.

    Mickie,

As Ryan has noted, the recovery disk D should not be used for storage, do you have anything installed to him directly?

If you're trying to backup, then cancelled or failed, then follow these instructions:

    1. Click on the Logo Windows (start)-> type to start searching the backup status and Configuration
    2. Next to the "automatic backup is currently activated" click on Turn Off
    3. Close the window.

Then, we will need to remove the incomplete files on your D drive.

To do this, you will need to click on start click on computer, and then double-click Disk Local (d)

Here you will find two things, a Mediaid.bin file and a file with the same name as your computer (you can check by finding a backup set inside this folder), you must remove both to get rid of the message. Let us know if you need help, to know the name of this folder.

  • computer laptop dv5t: very low sound, solution?

You just bought dv5t: very low volume, especially when recording on audio or video screen. Also, when I record on the screen, I hear picked up in the room, (talk, etc.) mixed. Can someone tell me what the correct sound settings should be for video screen and audio recording? I use debut video capture software and I use "mp3mymp3" for audio capture. Checked their manual, but cannot find a solution. I also use Skype to call and have no sound problem it. Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit. Thanks, Anne

    Hi Anne,.

One thing that can help is the following.  Do a right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "playback devices".  Left click the device once to highlight default (it is usually 'speakers & headphones') and then click the properties button.  Click the enhancements tab and put a check mark in the box "Loudness equalization.  Click on apply to save the changes and then click OK in all other windows and see if allowed at all.

  • The file system on which "/ Users/SterlingButters/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines/Boot Camp/Boot Camp.vmwarevm' lies is very low on free space."

I get the following error message when I try to start my VM and I don't know why, I have repaired permissions and I have about 50 GB of spare on the partition. It was great to work for a long time and the only thing I can think of, that I have done before, was until I started getting the error message I mounted the BootCamp partition and moved the files into it, then dismantled. I looked towards the top of the topic online and don't have much, (I usually are not) then I came to the experts for help. So, really, I just need to be able to start up in my VM without the error message, THANKS!

This error has nothing to do with Boot camp as far as I know. Your mac partition is running out of free space. To resolve this issue, you must first remove file from Mac partition.

For starters, I wud you suggest to empty the trash., remove files from the downloads folder. delete the old files, movies, music, photos etc... choice is up to you.

Please launch disk utility (/ applications/utilities) and check the free space of Mac HD.

He also said that he could not download the updates as no space left.   Is there anyway I can get rid of the any tips to free up space.  I don't have a separate to drive in which he mentions.  I don't want to go back to the computer by default as he will lose everything I have updated.  The computer is a Windows 7 Home Premium and about 3 years.   In fact, it is a laptop I hate and who is sitting on a garbage can with a lead on my computer screen and I use a keyboard and a wireless mouse.   do not make laptops.   So I need help please in the simplest of terms.

I suggest you go back to the shop and insist that they show you the HP_TOOLS partition is empty and everything is working normally.

The Hewlett-Packard folder in the folder on your desktop can be slid on the HP_TOOLS disc once it has been emptied. This file is not necessary for the normal operation of your computer. If it isn't there, it simply means that diagnostic tools have not been installed.

  • "Low disk space" message

I get a message telling me that my "disk space is low.  When I click on the message box, it takes me to 'Change/Remove' programs and a list of all programs on my computer and gives me options to edit or delete.  I noticed that I have a lot of updates to security for XP MS that have been installed.  It is safe to delet the previous years or will it interfere with the operation of my computer?

Folders that have uninstall as part of the name (for example $NtUninstallKB282010$ who reside in C:\windows (hidden files) are window Hot difficulty updating folders/files) can be removed safely (providing ever, you wish to uninstall the updates). I recommend you leave these records for a period of at least one month to make sure that the update works correctly.

These updates can be removed individually or together. To learn more about the update/s go on:
http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=xxxxxx NB: XXXXXX = the actual number, not to mention the "Q" or "Ko."

Once you have removed the uninstall folders/files, then go to control panel, add/remove programs. Select the title of the corresponding Windows fix on the folder/file of the patch you just deleted, and select Delete. You will get a Windows error. This is because you deleted the uninstall folder/files. Simply choose OK and the entry will be removed from the Add/Remove Programs list.

Important: This is only for Windows XP not Vista.

BTW, I don't think you will gain a lot of space by doing this, perhaps consider a larger hard drive.

You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
-Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...

    1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
    2. click on the System Restore tab.
    3. highlight one of your readers (or C: If you only) and click on the button "settings".
4 change the percentage of disk space you want to allow... I suggest moving the slider until you have about 1 GB (1024 MB or close to that...)
    5. click on OK. Then click OK again.

You can control the amount of space used may or may not temporary Internet files...

Empty the temporary Internet files and reduce the size, that it stores a size between 64 MB and 128 MB...

-Open a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    -Select TOOLS - Internet Options.
-On the general tab in the section 'Temporary Internet files', follow these steps:
-Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
-Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use: ' something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (There may be many more now.)
    -Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).
-Once it's done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer.
