Windows XP Home Edition startup problem

I have Windows XP Home Edition, but the computer does not start at the top.  I get a black screen and a blinking cursor.  I have an XP installation disc.  I was in the Recovery Console to recover all of the standard tasks, but nothing helped.

Brand, model and model number of your PC?

Are you able to get into the BIOS?

Then, I tried to reboot 10 times over and always to the same black screen.

When I tried the thing Safe Mode would stop any loading at some point of the code, which is

Anyone know what is happening and how can I solve this problem?

In the Boot Options menu advanced F8, choose this option and describe the results:

Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failure

Let us know if you do not see this option in the Advanced Boot Options menu.

You will not get far if you can't start something, so if you have a CD/DVD player, do you have a bootable XP Recovery Console in order to have room for manoeuvre, boot on the CD, run chkdsk /r and then you can start solving the problem (instructions below).

You are once started in the Console recovery XP and after running chkdsk/r, then you will be able to see if KB324764 will help you.

Please provide additional information on your system:

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, MSE, Comodo, etc..

If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget.

This is not the same as recovery disks that may have come to a store to purchase the system.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

    xp_rec_con. ISO

    Download the ISO from here:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD:

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

    Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the command prompt.

Start by checking the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.

In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.

Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem.  It won't hurt anything to run it.

Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:

    CHKDSK C: /r

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.  It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck".  Be patient.  If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.

Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.

You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

Do, or do not. There is no test.

  • computer will not start with the disc

I use vista and my computer does not start because of a corrupted file.

I put my vista disk in such suggested, but the screen does not move any command of keys to press and just goes round in a loop. So I can't the computer to start and fix.

I changed the bios to boot from the cd as first choice but still no results.

    can anyone help?

Could it be that the disk driver does not work like the disk isn't loading? Or the disc will not load because the press any key order is not coming?

I am old enough and not very technically experienced but this computer has served me well and I have a lot of information that I need to go down there if I have to buy another.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have correctly setting the boot order in the BIOS to CD/DVD first, and the computer does not start, your problem has nothing to do with the driver for the CD/DVD drive. Also running in safe mode or SFC can maybe help you.

The reason that pilots, safe mode and FCS can help you is the same for all three: boot (if from the hard drive or a CD or DVD) takes place before loading Windows. If it boots from a CD or a bootable DVD, the problem has nothing to do with Windows. It's a hardware problem. I don't know what the problem is, but it is possible that the CD/DVD drive is dead.

What is wrong can but fixable, but whether it is cost-effective to do so is another matter. It depends on what the problem is. If the CD/DVD player, they are inexpensive, so replacement should not be expensive. Fortunately, it's not like there is a problem with the hard drive, so even if you buy a new computer, you must be able to remove the hard drive from the old computer, put it in an external enclosure and to transfer the data to the new computer.

Let me add another point: you say "I have a lot of information that I need to get off it if I have to buy another." This suggests that you don't regularly back up your data on an external support. If this is the case, you've played with fire. It is always possible that a hard disk crash, the user error, close to love at first sight, virus attack, even stolen computer, can result in the loss of everything on your drive. As it has often been said, it is not a question of whether you will have a problem, but when.

  • Computer will not start normally - boots to the BIOS boot screen

Hi, today I had problems on my computer and it will not start normally upward. This started happening today. When I turn on the monitor, the HP logo appears on a blue screen (as usual), but then, there are a lot of vertical white lines grouped perfectly on the screen (it's never happened before) he started to arrive yesterday. and when I try to start it, there is just a black screen for a long time and sometimes the system recov appears but it takes SO long to finish so I just stopped and went into safe mode and did a quick scans with Malwarebytes, MS Security Essentials and SUPERAntiSpyware, but they are all come clean except SUPER which came with a few things from tracking cookies...

Today, I have scanned a full scan with malwarebytes and it says that there is no infection.

can someone help me? I'm at the library atm! Thank you!

Picture of the blue screen with lines here: http://img638.imageshack.us/img638/8583/post1278441253416372.jpg

also - im wondering how to start with recov disks? I have two drives but only as on slot dvd thing and I know to start upward with her? should I boot with it because the layout is a little down? and I don't have an installation disc windows vista then Yes.

    Thank you very much!

    Hello Winston,

According to the image that you posted, it seems that the blue screen is a blue screen with the HP logo on the subject.

If this is the case, then the machine has not yet reached Windows and is suspended in the machine Power On Self Test.

My recommendation for this scenario is to contact HP about what there is something at the level of the material / process/firmware BIOS which prevents the machine to get it to start Windows Vista.

Let us know what they have to say.

    Best regards

  • I change my motherboard, I do not change anything else in my computer I have xp professional window, when I power my computer, the computer will not start, it asks me to insert the cd and press ENTER, I don't have the xp cd, help me please.

install a new motherboard in my computer, I need the recovery cd to start the computer, I have Windows xp?

Assuming that you are XP is already installed (you do not specify) and the old IDE hard drive, you may need to enable the IDE in the BIOS of the motherboard.  Sometimes on systems more recent IDE is disabled for SATA.  Other than that, I don't know.  Find a friend who has an XP Pro CD.  How is that you have it installed but do not have the CD?  If it was a computer OEM like HP, Dell, etc, then you should contact the manufacturer for a restore CD, but since you have changed the motherboard, it is possible that they won't support you more, unless it is a replacement of the factory.

If the system or Mode restore safe work not and you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, make a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

This Canon MP250 printer/scanner never worked well with Windows 7 and 8 for example. Printing would just hang out and print only the laptop restarts. Scanning has been difficult but eventually worked. Now, the scanner does not at all.

    Default BIOS - no change

After that I installed 'toshiba value added package' I can't turn on the touch pad at all.
