Computer won't read DVD / CD

I put forward to CD/DVD a few minutes... nothing...
I go to work, and then on the drive itself...
I double click on the drive to open the CD/DVD inside the computer and it ejects the disc saying that I need to insert the disc...

What is happening and why it won't work?

Hello Zee3,

Thank you for posting.  This happens with every DVD that you insert into the drive?  If it is only happening with 1 disc may be a bad DVD but if it happens with all DVD/CD that you put in the drive then the drive may have failed.  If this is the case on all disks I recommend to contact your OEM to see if the drive is still under warranty.

Thank you

Jack

    Hello

    1. are you able to read any type of file .doc or .txt of DVD?

After following all the steps (including the update of the MP9 for Media Player [MP] 11) below

I can get the drive to DISPLAY all the data from the DVD (Master & Commander 'movie)

on-screen MP11.  He plays (automatically) the intro (ONLY) from the DVD music (as when you put it in a DVD player, forward to press PLAY) MP11 shows all of the content and all the files on the DVD and SEEMS ready to play, but pressing on PLAY don't either not anything.

2 , what exactly happens when you try to burn the CD? You get the error message?

    Not nothing... He's here

    3. How do you try to burn CDs?

MediaPlayer, selection of a track list, made a list of titles, and then click BURN... nothing happens

4 have you tried to play the DVD content in ? windows media player

I had not before, but now I have.  Previously it was default to my SELECTION WIN DVD4 as the DVD player (I think I've EVER SEEN the WINDVD format/start page on the front screen - it wasn't the default front DVD player either but don't remember what program PLAYS the DVD, he ' comes of ").  Now, go back and see 1. above for MP11 more details.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click continue.

3 right-click on the CD-RW/DVD drive, and then select set to update driver.

He asks if I have an OEM driver and / disk... NO.. I run the program through...

"Question: media in the CD-RW/DVD drive is not readable" CLICKED top DIFFICULTY... and after computer "worked" on this subject awhile, he says STATUS: fixed.  St ill did not.   MP9 introduced the format of the DVD player but don't seem to read anything other then showing a list:

    UNKNOWN

    Title 1

    Title2

Title 3 etc., but could not do anything with this list.

He appeared a box asking if I wanted to update my MP9... sure why not so I shut everything down and uninstalled 9 and installed Media player 11.

Go BACK to # 1. now once again.  This is where I am.  MP11 shows all DVD data, the chart "the Album/DVD cover, all"titles"on the DVD, AND play the track audio 'intro' DVD but will not actually READ the DVD. "

So far it's PROGRESS.  We are at a point where it SEEMS at least that we are ready to PLAY and MP can SEE all the info on the DVD.

I see many people on other sites of the same question: Player does not work after FORMAT operating system and reinstall of WIN (and in my case: WinXP SP3 and WIN DVD4 of OEM disc)

Thanks a lot for your help so far... I hope that we can get to the next step and get the reader of CD-RW/DVD on 'PLAY '.

  • Home Edition Vista won't read DVD

my system will not read DVDs, why? I am not computer savy and I can't understand this at all. Help, please?

    Hello

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

Can you clarify your question - if the DVD is not read by your PC (not detect the DVD) or just the video does not play?

If the DVD-video is not played, you need to install a codec appropriate to play DVDs, no codec is available in your system to read the DVD. You can use PowerDVD, WinDVD, or any other software that you like. Once you install them, will also be installed the codec and so you can watch DVDs using Windows Media Player or Media Center.

If this is not the case of many to answer.

  • my computer won't read or recognize CD or DVD. What can be the problem?

When I try to install a software, play a CD or DVD, nothing happens.  I hear a few clicks and a humming noise, but then nothing.  I have the default to auto-play.    The instructions for the software says to follow the instructions on the screen, but they never show.  Is this a driver problem, and if so, how can I solve this?

    Hello

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue
    below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are
the entries in registry that the troubleshooter does not solve and those who "might" be the cause.

Check with your Maker system and a device for the two possible firmware updates and
the correct registry entries for your car.

Here are the keys that I of course are those in question - for the subkeys of the CD/DVD drive
as there will be other subkeys in these keys. Do not forget to ask specific keys involved as well as
    the parameters.

  • My inner smartdrive dvd player won't read DVDs more.  I have updated to Snow Leopard in Yosemite.

I am currently using OS X Yosemite 10.10.5.  I bought in 2009 iMac with Snow Leopard and have to Lion then updated my current operating system.  The internal dvd player has worked with much fussing, (insert the disc - closing - turn after a wait - by pushing the drive when he jumped on reboot).  If I had the chance after a few hours, the video disc show up on my desk.  When this happened, I was opening the dvd player that was in the Finder and the disc would play. I also tried to open the dvd first player and then insert the disc.  That no longer works.  Yesterday, only it just stop working.  The reader still takes dvd and swirls and click as before but then ejects the dvd. Repeatedly stop and restart is no longer works.  I make sure that the dvd be clean before I use it and have tried many different DVDs without success.  I think it's a software issue.  Does anyone have an idea/instructions a nearly dead grandmother brain that can follow to update or redate back to original factory setting to help this poor Smartdrive not so smart?

I have no TV, only my computer and phone at low prices.  I need to watch that my library borrowed from the dvd.

Hello any help would be appreciated... I'm not very technical so please keep things simple!

    Laptop: Equium A200-1VO

Work ok bootable CD but when I insert any other they seem not be recognized the drive. I tried to play original movie DVD and CD on a Toshiba DVD player, multimedia Realplayer and VLC Player. I don't get an error message and I see "DVD RW Drive (d :))' in my 'work'

I searched other threads and followed the advice given. But nothing has worked, so far, I have:
    -removed upper and lower filters
    -updated audio driver
    -update the BIOS
-reinstalled realtek High Def Audio Driver

    All advice welcome! Help, please!

    Confused chick

    Hello!

I agree with Akuma. Normally, it looks like the upper and lower filters. You must then maybe try again and read all the instructions in the Microsoft document.

I'm pretty sure that it is a software issue because you can boot from the CD and so I doubt that it is a hardware problem.
Maybe you should try to update Windows and check for yellow exclamation marks Device Manager.

  • Computer won't read or write CD's

My office will read and write DVD - but lately it does not recognize a CD disk.  When you insert a CD in the drive, the drive will be clicking on and light flashes for about 30 seconds, then it stops and there is no message.  Any advice?  I use this computer now for five years and never had a problem.

    Hi applebaum.

I've never seen this before DLL file, which could mean that it is malware.

I suggest to run a full system scan using your favorite malware scanning software.

If the reader is not reading/writing on CD but is DVD playback, it is likely that the drive is failing.

They have a laser for the CD functions and a laser for DVD functions.

Each laser can fail and the other format still works.

Read CD - RW discs, to a UDF reader software. Discs CD - RW are written in UDF 1.5 format. This UDF reader software can be downloaded from Adaptec "s web site: www.adaptec.com"

This software can play CD - RW discs written with rewritable CD drives that are written in UDF format. Without UDF reader software, CD-ROM/DVD-ROM in s Toshiba laptops can only read ISO 9660 discs.
