Configuration of a historical database of separate management

I am deploying new infrastructure Active 7 roles alongside my ARS 6.9 production. Of all the ARS earlier versions, I kept the Configuration and the history of management within the same database, for example ActiveRoles69.

I want to sever the two databases above.

Can someone enlighten as on all the advantages and disadvantages of the separate databases?

Someone has set up separate databases in production, and if so, can you provide a positive feedback or negative of this decision?

Thanks for any comments.
-Steve

I always recommend to have separate databases, for several reasons.

With an active role, the management history database is not just a static database. It's actually the product performance data. Write to the database as we of the tasks, and then run reports by querying the actual work that has been done. In busy environments, or environments have been the history of change in retention period has been increased beyond the default of 30 days, this can mean that the execution of the SQL instance hosting the database of management history can actually be a bottleneck for performance of the product. Separate databases makes it easy to migrate the database of management resources for new equipment or a cluster if necessary more gourmet story.

In addition, since the history of database management is read from and written to many more often, it is more likely to suffer from malformation, since the software is a public medium. This can sometimes mean that the history of management database must be archived, a new database created and the data recovered using the wizard to transfer in the history of management or the control center roles Active. It is a resource that I created to help with the rare cases:

This process is much easier if the databases are separated.

  • Separate management / VMotion Best Practice?

We're heading to 4.0 ESX ESXi 4.1.  Our servers have 4 physical Gigabit NIC.

On ESX 4.0, we lack 2 vSwitches:

    vSwitch0

    Service Console - Active vmnic0 - vmnic3 watch

    VMkernel - Active vmnic3 - vmnic0 eve

(Unique network interface cards / IPs by function)

    vSwitch1

Port VM - vmnic1 and vmnic2 active groups

    (Several VLANS to resources shared)

With the changes in ESXi, is recommended to separate the management of VMotion as we did with ESX?  Notice that we use the same subnet for these two functions.

Personally, I would prefer combining Management and VMotion.  VMotion will not only benefit an additional NIC usage, especially with the multiple simultaneous VMotions?  At the same time, it seems not that management traffic would be impeded to the point of needing to separation, as we use the same subnet.  In addition, security should not be a problem, since the new, we use the same subnet for management and VMotion.

Your configuration is consistent with "best practices". I prefer separate management taffic VMkernel myself, even if it will cost me some performances of vMotion.

  • Question on the definition of the identification information of database in Enterprise Manager

    Good evening

I tried to set the credentials of database in Enterprise Manager (Preferences-> preferred References) and ran into a case that I don't understand. Please see the "diagram" (which attempt to mimic screen EM--very roughly). I show the name and host fields separately because those who are constant.
    Name             Host

    orcl.john.local  Oracle2Day1.john.local
the above fields are followed (including my original contribution):
UserName  UserName   SYSDBA     SYSDBA    Host      Host
                 Password   userName   Password  UserName  Password

       scott     abc123     sys        abc123
When I enter in the above and press the button "Test", everything works well. I thought that if I could connect as SCOTT, I would be also able to connect as SYS (not a good idea, but, it's an exercise), so I tried this:
UserName  UserName   SYSDBA     SYSDBA    Host      Host
                 Password   userName   Password  UserName  Password

       sys       abc123     sys        abc123
    The above gives the following:

    >
    Error
Failed to connect to orcl.john.local as the user sys.
    >

The question is: SYS can connect as SYSDBA, how is it possible that he wouldn't be able to connect as a user 'normal '?. I do not understand why this scenario fails.

    Thank you for your help,

    John.

  • Update Manager and the configuration of Virtual Center database = 1 database or the database even?

We have a small environment VMware - 2-3 hosts, only 5-6 virtual machines for now, perhaps upward at 10-12 during the 2009 year.

I looked at VUM and VC sizing spreadsheets and it seems I can do VC and Crossover work of SQL Express 2005 for 1-3 years, I need patch storage etc. and know that I may need to upgrade.

VC and VUM facilities create their own separate databases or they are combined to form 1 data base?

Or I would be better to buy 1 license Standard SQL with the 10 Cal instead? (I know that this would put the scale easily.)

    Thank you, Tom

If you let the VC and VUM installers create the databases on the instance of SQL SERVER 2005 Express (named SQLEXP_VIM), it will create separate databases for each (VIM_VCDB for vCenter) and VIM_UMDB for the Update Manager. It is possible to have both of them use the same database, if you need to specify the database and ODBC settings in the installer.

Hope that helps! Please, help me by marking my response as "useful" or "correct", if you feel it is useful!

  • Impossible to add the database in enterprise manager 12.1.3

    Hi all

    I recently installed 12 c (12.1.3) on rhel 6.2 oem 64 bit.

    DB version is 11.2.0.3.0

    I've added a target.

I went to (top - right)

Configuration-> add target-> manually add target.

And the agent has been installed successfully.

However after that once I come to

    (Left side)

    Target-> data-> add-> Oracle database

I'm not able to see the host name that was added.

    Help, please.

    Thank you.

If the agent has installed successfully, to connect on the Server DB and goto AGENT_HOME/bin and see the output of the emctl status agent and see if the agent is able to connect to the OEM and also able to download data to the SGD server. Try to stop and start the agent and see if there are errors seen on DB host.

To add a database to the OEM make you also entered it in the file/etc/oratab on the DB server.

    Thank you

  • Standby Database - No. Enterprise Manager - 11g so what jobs?

    Hello

So I implemented data guard for our production of 11g database.  I used the SQL method.   No control of the broker, no cloud or the grid.

The data is synchronized with our production database.   But - if I have to failover to the standby database, there is no enterprise manager to manage it.  I have several scheduled tasks in our production database. (These jobs involve the execution of stored procedures, SQL, etc.).  Of course these jobs wouldn't if we were using the database pending because there is no EM for it.

Add to this the fact that the company where we license Oracle since (we're a college) does not yet support 12 c.  If I ran 12 c, we are on our own until they do, if there are problems.

So, if I ever use our database of Eve, what jobs that are not running? I know that I could perform them manually, or I might get them to run with SQL Scripts using Windows batch files, etc..  Essentially reproducing jobs EM with Windows bat files.  (I'm already back up the database ensures that).

What is the right way to go about this? Install control cloud 12 c on a server and then to administer my database sleep with her? I guess the 12 c cloud control can administer an 11g database?   For those who have done this, have you installed the control server to cloud 12 c on its own server?

We manage our server under Windows 2008 R2.

    Any contribution is appreciated.

    Thank you

Fix. They will work in Main Mode. Manages the "SET_ATTRIBUTE" 'DBMS_SCHEDULER' if value "PRIMARY".

So if you make a hole or failover mode of the database changes and your work are managed.

EM jobs are not the same thing as that.  DBMS_SCHEDULER is stored in each database.

There is a forum here also DBMS_SCHEDULER with tons of information.

    Best regards

  • OEDQ - configuration of Siebel Staging Database

I'll put up 11g with stand alone 8.1.1.11 version OEDQ. I'm in the section configuration of the database staging in the below URL

    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E48549_01/doc.11117/e40741/TOC.htm

Document said to run scripts to create different tables for the batch.

What is the best place to create this tables? These tables should be with SIEBEL schema or can they be created in the schema EDQCONFIG or EDQRESULTS?

    Thank you

    Hello

As the staging tables are used only for temporary data for running batch DQ of Siebel, they agree quite like the extension of the pattern of results of the Disqualification or (better) an additional scheme in the same database. That's what we normally recommend.

Note that if you extend the schema of results you may need to re-run the scripts after the Disqualification upgrade to a new version.

    Kind regards

    Mike
