• vCOPs - used to generate alerts from vcenter instead of configure actions on the vcenter Server?

  HI -.

  I was wondering - is vCOPs a product that can alert and monitoring, in addition to being a tool of use/capacity analysis?

  Since then, we have 8 or so vCenters, we would use vCOPs to generate action alert for most standard vcenter alerts. Is this a proper thing to ask vCOPs to do? It seems much better to have a monitoring/alert tool to do this and then try to make sure all vcenters have commonly (and correctly) snmp Configuration and alert thresholds and actions.

  Yes. We found in vcOps alert management configuration is cumbersome. The virtual appliance provided by PSO the process a bit easier with a front-end user interface, but really, it should be as easy as configuring alerts in the user interface of vSphere

• RN314 cannot set up alerts

  Just I have an open for this support ticket and I'm getting nowhere fast at the moment, while the community has been so useful until now I was wondering if someone here could help/advise.

  -For the NASs x RN31400 2 I am owner and you have registered with you I am unable to setup e-mail alerts. I tried to use 3 e-mail addresses of 3 service providers: Yahoo, Hotmail/Outlook and also my own ISP TalkTalk email providers. No matter what settings I use for all 3 e-mail providers, I get the following error message: check the settings of the smtp server cannot send a code error message 5008010002 msmtp test e-mail alert on my 3 x NV + s very well using my Yahoo e-mail address work. On one of the RN31400s using Yahoo worked initially and the alert section would say that it has been configured correctly and I'd get emails to my 2 hotmail addresses, it was on 1 of my RN31400s on the other RN31400 the settings would save not and always say, there was a problem but I had managed through test messages. Now, no matter what settings I use, which email provider I use, etc. I can't e-mail job alerts! Please help because this is obviously a problem with the NASs and the software on devices, the version of the firmware on two is 6.4.1 Ive set up the addresses of 3 E-mail on an e-mail within my network client and all 3 work well, the 3 x NV + s do not have a problem using my Yahoo account to send alerts check my routers and firewalls there is no blocked traffic and I can't telnet to Server 3 Messaging without problems. Please advise/help, thanks.

  There is nothing wrong with the configurations that I use.

  All 3 servers SMTP and the above settings work very well on my NAS NV +.

  All 3 servers SMTP and the above settings work fine on Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird's within my network.

  All servers SMTP 3 and address listed above work fine when I Telnet to them within my network.

  First settings of Yahoo SMTP worked well on one of the RN314 and seemed saved and ok.

  Also...

  At the beginning of Yahoo SMTP settings worked well on one of the RN314 but not record or say that it has been configured correctly.

  Then obviously there is something wrong with the SMTP service/server on these NAS RN314 2 bed.

  I am not willing to allow you access as it will provide no benefit whatsoever.

  For the course of 20 years, so it's nothing that can be done with you giving remote access with the exception of confirm you what I have already said previously, I have worked in it.

  There is nothing wrong with the configuration that it works very well on my 3 x NV + NAS, it works very well in e-mail clients, it works very well in Telnet, and it worked very briefly on the 2 x RN314 of for of Yahoo SMTP settings.

  Right, I have fixed on one of the RN314 far...

  I backed up all my data on this RN314 and did a factory default.

  I have reproduced the RN314 settings manually then nonworking time for the reset RN314 except for identification data, i.e., name, etc.

  Exactly as it was before... and now the RN314 in default works fine.

  I am currently backing up the data on the RN314 now inactive to perform a Setup factory on that one and see if that solves the problem on this one here.

  Then we can close this and I will refer to it with a new thread if I need if the second RN314 still has problems after the default settings.

  I've been in contact with our partner Cisco on this subject, but I do not have anywhere and dismissed the case without a resolution...

  It turns out that you can not disable alerts are more than 1,000 at a time in ISE.

  It is a huge problem for me, because we have more than 10 k configuration change alert generated when a user created by mistake a few too many invited through the portal of sponsor accounts.

  I hope there's a way I can clear up all those old alerts without having to click on 9 k of them at the same time to make them disappear.

  I considered automate the clicks via javascript in my browser, but of course the alert list was a flash object, so I couldn't do it either...

• vROPS 6.0 - Email alert

  I've raised a new installation of vROPS 6.0. Things seem to work until now, but I can't find any help on the configuration of alerts by e-mail. I added my SMTP server and tests work fine. I was expecting something simple like in vCenter where you can set triggers and actions for any given alert, but VROPS seems to hide somewhere. For example... I want to receive an email when vSwitches drop packets and guest VM is running out of space.

  I put a dashboard customized for one of my app teams to monitor disk space on their servers

  The dashboard works fine - but I can't seem to find out where we can set up email alerts to be generated for any server "not green".

  First of all, you have setup your system to generate alerts when used in comments file system % used is greater than 70%. You must then configure alert to you Notifications alerts.

  Configure instances of alert Manager to send alert in the form of e-mail notifications. Select Manager > configure outgoing alert. Add the Instance of alert Manager to send alert notifications to users in e-mail messages, you must create an alert handler which

  send alert notifications to a mail filter.

  vCenter Operations Manager provides several default e-mail template files. You can also create your own

  create e-mail custom templates before or after that you configure e-mail template definitions.

  You usually send file definitions as the e-mail template files. Most of e-mail template

  emailFilter.xml file

  emailFilter.xml is an XML file that defines the filter rules and model files to use for the alert message

  notifications. The file also contains the General settings that apply to all email alert notifications.

  CAUTION do not change the emailFilter.xml directly unless you are familiar with the syntax and the XML structure. A

  formatting error may prevent job email alert notifications. If you change emailFilter.xml directly,

  I have a problem with Hyperic event alerts on availability.
  I just want to alert and e-mail when a server is no longer available.  I use the metric standard of availability that Hyperic collects and the alert I set the triggers on the event that availability is equal to 0%.  I am getting a lot of false positives where I'm alerted that availability is 0%, but when I look there is no problem on the analysis server, and even the chart availability shows no sign of 0% availability.
  I tried to configure the alert to trigger only when the 0% event occurs 20 times in 1 hour, but even this still falsely raise the alert sometimes.  I tried this in different environments and exhibit the same problem everywhere.
  Is there an easier way to detect when a server went down or are no longer available?

  check the time synchronization between the server and the agent.

  Hyperic is very (IMHO too) sensitive to the poorly synchronized clocks, and false alarms on metrics of availability with no evidence of a failure on the server are the most common symptom.

  I am using custom dashboards and I send as an email alerts to the respective teams. To do this, we have @event alert and its configuration. To specify that only certain alerts (those important or essential) should hit the enamel of team members we have now no settings GUI to configure the alert out of dashboards customized just like standard dashboards in notifications. (See attached image)

  For this vmware has created an emailfilter.xml file in the VM Analytics which allows to modify according to your design. My question is where can I fnd this file on a virtual computer analytical if we deployed Ops vC as a paralytic? because vmware has told u cannot use this xml file configuration file editor.

  Is it possible to do without the feature script / built-in?

  First thing you need to know is that it's not instant.  Log event controls are every 5 minutes, so you may need to wait up to 5 minutes to get a "user logged in" event in central administration.

  Second thing to know is the events of 'user login' you are looking for are not obtained through research in any newspaper.  If you do not have to do any configuration of newspaper spent turning to get these events.

  The third is that it still does not work on Windows.  It does not sound like you are on Windows, but just in case.

  You see events that are similar to the a mirko posted in the second post?

  Try these settings just to see if we can make it work:
  -platform.log_track.enable = true
  -platform.log_track.level = error
  -All other log_track properties are empty.  Make sure that there is nothing in the text fields for platform.log_track.include, platform.log_track.exclude and platform.log_track.files

  Then, edit your alert definition and remove it from the substring.  Just make empty.  This will mean that you configure an alert to alert on all events in the log to track.  Since you have not specified any track of newspapers, I expect only to see connection events.  Try to connect to a new user on the system and to prevent that the user logged on for at least 5 minutes.  If you don't get always an event or notice of alert for the event... not sure, would need to get information on what OS, etc that you use.

  I need to set up the email alerts on a custom sql metric that I created.
  
  Here's what I did so far in the Enterprise grid control manager.
  
  (1) connect to EMGC
  (2) select the host and the target on the host computer.
  (3) select "User-Defined Metrics" on the lower right.
  (4) created my success of 'CUSTOM_CHECK' return either 0 custom sql script or 1 failure
  (5) registered.
  
  I'm trying to configure an alert message, when the script runs and generates an error.
  I'm also 10 other databases on 2 hosts, where I need this script to run and monitor.
  I need to create the metric of sql for each target on each host? Or y at - it an easier way to do it.
  
  How to set this in GC, while it traversese in the whole of the dataabases.

  Not that I know of. You go into each case and create the alert custom according to the parameters defined by the user. You can simply copy and paste the same script in each case.
  Please indicate your response message if you got your solution.

• Path of storage redundancy alert Question

  I have a setup of host to storage path monitor alerts.  The triggers are 'Lost connectivity of storage', lost storage path redundancy 'and degraded redundancy of storage path '.  I have the actions defined to send a SNMP trap once from yellow to red.  The behavior I see is an alert sent to the first problem (of path on the data store 1 failure), but no warning second on the second problem (failure path on the data store 2) – same host.  Someone has this configuration of alerts and you see this behavior?  I can understand why vCenter would send an alert to the front, simply because if we had problems on all 30 data stores on a host that would mean 30 separate alerts by the data store.  Multiply that out on a 8 or 16 cluster node and which would be quite a few alerts.

  We receive alerts for each data store is presented to the host, who is affected.  We had a downtime planned week last with our fabric X on one day and the fabric moving Y next Brocade to cisco.  As soon as the links have been droppped the alarm, kicking and we were informed of each data store.
