Configuration of uplinks FC UCS

Hello

I'm confused on the configuration of the UCS CF uplinks.

the configuration is the following UCS (2 fabric interconnects - 2 different VSAN)--> Nexus 5 k (2 for redundancy - each FI for Nexus one)--> EMC storage

I have connected 2 ports CF since the interconnection fabric expansion module to the Nexus 5 K

I'm confused about the configuration on the port in the nexus 5 K?

Interconnection of fabric is in Normal mode (not switch mode), how do I configure my port on the nexus? What a F port? should I activate NPV on nexus?

is - good port of EMC storage as F port (on nexus)?

I'm still new to FC connectivity.

I appreciate if you can include a configuration nexus 5K model

Thank you

The N5K should be mode Switch FC (in front of the NPV mode).  The FI will be NPV (aka host FC end Mode).

On the N5K interfaces uplink FI both the EMC connection interfaces will be in mode F.  You must ensure that NPIV is enabled on the N5K (simple change without interruption).  Each FC on your N5K port must be assigned to the appropriate VSANS.  Don't forget to create the VSAN on UCS and the N5Ks respectfully.

The FC interfaces between the UCS and the N5K must be in the same VSAN (except if you use VSAN trunking) or they will not come to the top.  For even if you want to create a channel of Port CF you do on both sides of the link.

Once your links are pointing upwards, you need your zoning and masking on the table - including a whole other subject.

Kind regards

Robert

    Hi all

We are in the time zone IS (Sydney Australia).

We just improved our ucs to 2.02 q system and found that the clock of the UCS is fast than before 1 hour.

As attached shows, we have not changed the time zone configuration after upgrade.

I am connected to the UCS NXOS and I found the following configuration on the time zone:

    UCS - A (nxos) # show running-config | clock Inc.

    clock timezone IS 10-0

summer time clock IS 4 Sunday March 02:00 5 Sunday October 03:00 60

Above summer time config is bad for me.

    In Australia:

Daylight saving time begins at 02:00 on the first Sunday in October and ends at 02:00 (which is 03:00 daylight saving time) the first Sunday in April.

  • Prevent the vlan 1 on an uplink in UCS

    People,

I have 2 areas of disjoing and I use the new UCS 2.1 feature to allow only some VLAN on a port channel. But what I notice is that there is no way to prevent the vlan 1 to sink on this channel port on the side of the UCS, even if I'm not in the VLAN Manager.

  • Configuration RAID - on Cisco UCS C 220 M3 with controller RAID UCSC-RAID-11-C220 problem.

    Dear all,

    Hope everything is going well...

Here is the error I encountered during the installation:

While Installting and UCS C220 M3s server configuration & initially map is with card UCSC-RAID-MZ that supports RAID 0/1/10.

Now I replaced it with UCSC-RAID-11-C220 mezzanine card so that it supports RAID 0/1/5/10/50.

But when I opened the MMIC for the server & again, it is show that it supports only RAID 0/1/10...

Please find the spare part for your reference.

I have to activate or configure additional options on the BIOS to support RAID 5 Server?

Looking forward to hear from you! Thanks in advance...

  • Configuration of Raid M4X UCS C 240

Can anyone know how to configure Raid on UCS C 240 M4 X model? I tried to run Ctrl + H while restarting, but I don't have any option of Ctrl + H so that UCS restart server. Server contain 6 disk of the 827 GB each. What Raid level, should I choose 5 or 6 (or other)? I tried to read Cisco docs but I don't have a lot of them.

CUCM apps usually posted requirements for the required flow rate minimum of Mbps.

Often, we see a mirror raid 1 2 drive for the operating system, then 4 or more drives Raid 5 that stores data warehouses main the guestVMs run from as a common configuration.

By creating virtual drives (assuming you have HDs and not SSD) make sure that you set enable-write caching (with good BBU) and activate the cache before reading.

We see sometimes raid 10 used, but which has a surcharge of 50% of raid and to do by multiples of 4.

I see you found the MMIC storage tab, which is easier to use than time message option rom, Megaraid utility to create raid volumes.

Once you have created your virtual disks (VDs), make sure you configure your boot order to include your local drive.

Please see http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/UC_Virtualization_Supported_Hardware regarding some of the app voice UC requirements.

Manage ports Uplink Fiber Channel FCoE traffic between the interconnection of fabric and the next layer of the

SAN storage network. All FCoE network-related traffic is pinned to one of these ports.

By default, the Fibre Channel ports are uplink. However, you can configure them to work as Fibre Channel

storage ports. This is useful in cases where a Cisco UCS requires a connection to a DAS storage

    Device (DAS).

My question is, how the FC Port could handle FCoE traffic? My understanding was that FCoE will be lifted and Enthernet connection only.

    1. application of VMware vsphere client. It will automatically assign first free uplink in the switch and i/o directpath will work;
    2. profiles of the host. in this case I can attribute any any vmnic uplink as I want. This can be done in vsphere client of web as application of vmware vsphere client.

  • UCS Config - is allowing disruptive VAN?

    Hello

I'm working to implement the UCS in our environment for the first time. We have two 6120 s and a blade single chassis. We are links to the storage of the 6120 s through two MDS 9124 fabric switch (v.4.2(3), I think). If I understand correctly, I need to activate NPV on each of the 9124 s until I can get the UCS to communicate through the fabric. Is this correct? And if so, simply activate VAN will cause a disruption in service to other devices on the MDS switch? We currently have other production systems using the same switches. This time NPIV is already enabled.

Once I get NPV activated, is there something else I need to configure the ports for UCS work?

    Thanks in advance!

    -Adam

You need not enable VAN on the MDS, is the interconnection fabric that works using NPV, not MDS.

NPIV is required on the MDS, so as you already have this option, you should be good to go. You must always configure the MDS ports in the VSAN correct and your zoning based on the WWPN pools that you create in the service profile. On the side of the UCS, make sure that the uplink FC ports are configured in the same VSAN.

This document explains the requirements more in detail.

  • UCS management interface - B series

Management of the UCS of series B can then passage to uplink ports / Server interconnection fabric and not on the Management Interface of the FI? As in the C series there is a choice in the MMIC where management requires ports LAN (LOM)

Yes, since IF you have a connection of the mgmt0 port - is for the FI management and KVM blade, etc. (e.g. the OOB management).

On the IF configure you uplink profits that are used to carry network traffic on the blades.

On the C series if you configure the port MMIC to be mode shared-LOM then yes all traffic management and the path of data will be done by the same ports LOM. If you choose the dediacted port then you must use the MMIC port on the C series for the management and LOM for the data.

YEW is the DURATION Mode and is connected to a Nexus 5010 via an uplink port. When I do 'flog dat sho' I don't see not all entries.

    Pointers?

The UCSM is in Mode 'CF End Host' hope (assuming).

However the FI will run in mode of VAN.  You have successfully configured the Nexus with NPIV.  The Nexus 5010 interface should operate in mode 'F' (but car should be good too).

There is not any FLOGI until you have configured a service profile UCS with a vHBA for SAN boot or local boot and the vHBA on the host operating system tries to access the storage.  Have you done this yet?

A command can be useful to you is from the CLI UCSM (ssh to the virtual IP of the UCS)

    connect NXOS

    Show Van flogi-table

If you do not see a flogi VAN here entry, you will not see it on the Nexus 5000.

    Hi Dexter,

Since you will have two / several switches uplink to which you will have an Ethernet to the North, a what you will have to configure is the layer 2 disjoint.

You must be on any version 2.0 to configure that.

Here are a few documents to help you with the details:

  • Cisco UCS C210M2-VCD2 network connectivity

    Hello

I will install three servers of c210M2 and I am quite new to the world of the UCS. According to the design that I'm supposed to install

4 x Vm (CUCM, CUC, presence, UCCX) primary or Publisher on NGC 01

4 x Vm (CUCM, CUC, presence, UCCX) subscribed or failover on NGC 02

    2 x Vm (MeetingPlace) on NGC 03

I have a few switches access X 3750 for network connectivity. My question is how to configure the NICs on UCS Server or the network. According to my knowledge each server has cards NIC 2 x 10 giga and 1 x NIC integrated management. I'm confused how many NICs each VM will have and how to set up all these VMs NIC on 2 x card physical NETWORK by UCS. Any suggestions please.

    Kind regards

    Asif

    Asif,

Nexus 1000 would be useful here, but if not an option and that you use standard vSwitch then both NICS should serve rising in a unique vSwitch for redundancy.

Here are some suggestions of QoS that might help you too.

Rredundant of the physical LAN interfaces are recommended

One or two pairs of cluster NETWORK adapter for the CPU VM traffic. A pair just on C210 due to the low load per VM

A pair of NIC (or dedicated team) for specific traffic VMware (mgmt, vMotion, VMware HA, etc.)

SIDENOTE: Pair of grouping NIC can be divided through the motherboard and the PCIe card permitting the UCS C-series, protects against the failure of the PCIe card

Once we know exactly asked what vSwitch using as the last post, we are able to locate more, but this is based on the standard use of vSwitch

    I hope this helps.

  • Definition of the uplink on two SRW2042

    Hello world.

I have two 2042 srw switches, connected to each other via a connecting cable. I have not changed the port settings everything is default. What I have to configure an uplink port for each switch to speed things up or is it done automatically by the switch? If I don't need re-branded one uplink port please provide detailed instructions. I have also noted a feature "back pressure" in respect of the management of the ports and I was wondering if that helps with an uplink port.

One last thing. When you use the web management application under ~ statistics ~... ~ using port ~ initially it shows a few ports at 100% usage until I put the Refresh function TO update the statistics. It then changes the stats to a normal range of about 6% use. Once refresh is on ports never go more than 10% but if I disconnect and return to and check these settings initial use is 100%. This could just be buggy software?

    Thank you!

    Chris

Hi Chris, there not a port special uplink for these products. Any port can this service (and the absence of State) need. The use of the port is probably just a caveat of software. These products are very old.
