Configuration of VLAN interface network invited only.

I'm running CentOS 2.6 and I try to configure the VLANS on a host only interface.  I get an error invalid argument of vconfig.  VLANs are not supported on host-only networking?  I have searched around for a while but you have not found a clear answer.

Interesting, because on my host OpenSUSE 11.1 x 64, the same command vconfig works very well. I have not tested the VLAN later, but certainly not error:

#vconfig add vmnet1 900

VLAN with VID added == 900 to IF -: vmnet1: -.

On an existing host VM (Windows 2003 Enterprise), I am trying to add a second NIC type host-only for the private network. But on the VM Infrastructure Client, I see no option to set the network type (NAT, host-only, bridge, etc.). This feature is not available on ESX? If it is available, how can it be done?

  • Configuration of several interfaces vlan on a layer 3 switch

I am trying to incorporate a layer 3 switch in a network. (see figure 1 below). My problem is that in the configuration below, the layer 3 switch seems to offer no additional benefit on a layer 2 switch, because it does not pass packets from Layer 3, instead, it will take an additional router configuration.

If I set up 2 interfaces like no switchports (diagram2) and create virtual interfaces on the switch of level 3, that is to say 0.1/g0, g0/0.2, 0.3/g0, g0/1.1,g0/1.2, g0/1.3, configure dot1q encapsulation and add ip addresses and subnets on each interface, so I understand that I can use the switch of level 3 as a router.

However this introduces a new problem now, VLAN 1 is on both interfaces, so devices in VLAN 1 on each interface will have point to the default gateway on this specific interface and features of VLAN 1 on G0/0.1 interface must be configured with a different subnet than those on G0/1.1 interface.

It does not seem logical, am I missing something?

    Figure 1

    Paul

On a L3 switch you do not configure subinterfaces (usually).

You create what's called Lass (Switched Virtual Interfaces) instead of this, and what are your L3 interfaces.

If your L3 switch ports are ports of L2 or other trunks or assigned to a VLAN specific.

For each VLAN you want to route you create then a SVI IE. -

    int vlan
    IP x.x.x.x
    No tap

and the default gateway for clients in this vlan is the IP assigned to the SVI.

Any other configuration of L3 interface, you add to the SVI.

The only time wherever you actually use the ports of L3 is when you connect to a router for example.

  • A bet with the network team - configure the VLANs on Teddy does not work against Cisco?

    Hello

We have a great place of Esx and I have a bet with one of the network Admins.

I configured a vSwitch to work with 1 bear. On this vSwitch I configured 1 vlan with a Vlan ID 100

I told the guy from the network to set up the bear side here and he said he has set up 'Access' and not trunk as normally I ask because it's only 1 Vlan.

I said ok and we tried and nothing works, when I configured the Vlan 0 in the Esx, it started working.

Of course we cannot leave it like that and need to Config the Vlan on the Esx.

I told them that once I configured the Vlan on my side there is nothing to do there, and they need to do the thing here.

    they say the same thing.

Who is right? It is something they need to configure side here if she's 'access' and not 'trunk '?

or is it something at my side?

  • Cisco asa active multiple interfaces on a single switch without configuration of vlan switch.

I was wondering if there is a work around on cisco asa to have 2 interfaces vlan on a switch. The reason I ask I have a cisco asa 5505 and a dell switch that does not support the configuration of VLANs. I set up 2 interface vlan on a cisco asa and when two interfaces are active my internet drops frequently. I was wondering if there is nothing to configure the asa cisco to make this thing work. Thanks in advance...

Assuming that Dell switch at least linking several interfaces of the ASA to the Dell should translate all media spanning tree protocols, but a bet covering the tree blocking State to avoid a tree covering loop.

If the Dell does not support tree covering weight then you would be in very bad shape each broadcast packet would be will loop indefinitely and cause what we call a 'broadcast storm. "

One way is not good and the other real harm.

  • Configuration of Vlan SG300-20 for the desktop and server ESXi

    Hello

I'm fairly new to network so please, be gentle.  I'm setting up a number of VLANs for my lab at home.

I recently moved jobs and took an Oracle Apps of the Middleware & role has therefore need to start picking up the Apache, e-Business Suite, etc. of the load balancers so need to segragate my network to allow different configurations, I want to install in my lab ESXi.

    My setup is detailed below:-

I have a router of dryatek 2860n which is my entry for the installation of the internet on IP 192.168.1.1

My Cisco switch has been set to 192.168.1.2 and the installer to use the 3 layer.

I have a number of PCs connected to my switch I want to use to administer my ESXi server and have access to the different VLANS.

VIRTUAL LANs, I need are the following

VLAN 1 192.168.1.x/24 By default / Internet Uplink
    VLAN 12 10.0.12.x/24 Workstations
VLAN 13 10.0.13.x/24 Server management interface
VLAN 14 10.0.14.x/24 Public Interface Server
VLAN 15 10.0.15.x/24 Private server interface
    VLAN 20 10.0.20.x/24 Storage

My esxi server has two network interfaces that will have traffic MGMT, Public and private configured as virtual interfaces in ESXi and one that runs my traffic of storage/nfs mounts on a QNAP NAS, I want to make it work on my network

Here is how I have the ports

    A Port VLAN membership
    G1 VLAN1
    G13 - 20 VLAN 12

    Need to access the VLAN 1, 13, 14, 15, 20

    G9

    VLAN 13, 14, 15

    G10 VLAN 20
G7 - 8 VLAN 20 LAG configured to QNAP NAS

G13-20 are my workstations that need to be on VLAN 12, but must also be able to connect to 13, 14, 15, 20, SSH, RDP, NFS

G9 is the Interface of MGMT of ESXi who need to have traffic on VLAN 13, 14, 15

G10 is ESXi storage Interface that needs to access the VLAN 20 only

G7/g8 are connect to QNAP that ideally I want to configure as a LAG.   When I get more interfaces in my ESXi Server I'll finally the team to match.

I set up an ip interface in my CISCO switch to 10.0.12.1 as gateway to my workstations and created a static route in my router to allow traffic to the switch.  This does not quite yet.

I also installed a default route to 0.0.0.0

I followed a number of guides, but struggling to get my head around concepts and how to achieve the above configuration.

Ideally, I want to configure this through the CLI as Ive had no end of problems with the web interface of the Cisco switch.

I believe need g9 of trunk, and other ACCESS is it exact.

How the workstatations to access the other VLAN?

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thank you

    Paul

Hi Paul, to break it down a little.

Host A connects to port 13.

    config t

    int gi0/13

    switchport mode access

    switchport access vlan 12

    ESXI connects to port 9

    config t

    int gi0/9

    switchport mode trunk

switchport trunk allowed vlan add 13-15 (keep in mind this vlan 1 is unmarked here and is the IP of your server interface)

    This translates

    ESXI = 192.168.1.x 24 gateway 192.168.1.2

    interface vlan 1

    IP 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0

    no ip address dhcp

    Host A = 10.0.12.x 24 10.0.12.1

    interface vlan 12

    name of the workstations

    10.0.12.1 IP address 255.255.255.0

With this basic host configuration at shall communicate to ESXI (no other config on the switch)

If please try to get the connectivity of base first, then can work on the roads and DHCP.

  • Need help setting up a configuration of VLAN special using WRVS4400N

    Hi guys,.

I need your help on how to implement a configuration of VLAN somehow non-standard.

    The situation is the following:

The customer wants a WLAN set up for the company and the other for guests. Now, wouldn't that be not so difficult if we'd be using the internal internet connection. But the WRVS4400N will be used to implement wireless LANs / VLAN only.

The company uses the DHCP protocol on both of their subnets, provided by a Watchguard Firebox XTM510.

Now, what we would do is set up the back door #1 for the connection to the subnet of the client and the #2 for the connection to the optional subnet for the guests. The first problem is that we were not able to configure DHCP forwards to the VLAN2. It works very well on the 1st but the 2nd doesn't allow that either ENabled or disabled, grayed out DHCP.

To work around the problem that he would be allowed to set up DHCP WRVS4400N providing in itself for the subnet invited, but try that didn't work at all.

Is it possible? Thanks in advance!

    Best,

    Ralph.

  • Need help to configure the VLAN on a powerconnect 5448

    Hello world

I am currently working on 2 switches PowerConnect 5448 but I'm completely lost in configuring VLAN.

    My bow:

    My needs are:

-J' have 2 different networks that need to be isolated in different VLANS

-I want to port 11-14 to use for network backup, all others must be used for the production network.

-This 2 networks must pass through the port 48 (fiber)

How can I configure this kind of network on the powerconnect interface (or via telnet)?

My understood are the following, I have to create 2 different VLAN tag all ports, switch to safe mode all ports of the entitlement each port to the VLAN voted. Am I wrong?

    How the fiber port?

Thanks in advance for your help on this matter.

Since your 2 VLAN need not communicate with each other, you should be able to get this working.

The easiest way to do this would be to have your production on VLAN 1 and VLAN 2 second network.

Assign an IP address to the switch with the command IP #.

Assign a default gateway with the # ip default-gateway command.

    Create a VLAN 2:

    Database console (config) # vlan

    Console (config - vlan) # vlan 2

Set 11-14 ports to access the mode for VLAN 2

    Console # switchport mode access

Console # switchport access vlan 2

Set 48 on trunk or general mode ports.

    Console # switchport mode Trunk

console # permit trunk switchport vlan add 2

You should get pretty close to a work environment. You may encounter some problem with VLAN 2 contacting 192.168.1.0, maybe just need to put it up and test.

  • is excluded them VLAN interfaces in the GAL

    Hello community,

I have a problem with the configuration of LAG on Cisco SFE2010P 3xSwitch battery.

The switch has in fact only web GUI. Console - too, but it is not very useful.

I need to configure Interfaces 1/g3 and g3/2 in one SHIFT. And VLAN (vlan by default) of 60 and 110 (voice), through to allow.

After that I configured the LAG with both interfaces, "Port of Vlan" LAG settings show me the vlan 60 is untagged and vlan 110 is labeled.

But if I take a glance on the 1/g3 Interfaces and "Port to LAN" settings 2/g3, both VLAN interfaces are "excluded". I can't access the default gateway, which is directly connected with this settings. The default gateway is a 3750Stack whose address IP of HSRP. It has two uplinks in port the SFE2010P channel.

I have only one Interface to 100 Mbps on the SFE2010P connected to a trunk on the spine interface. And it works in this way. But using the links LWL LAG now does not work.

Why are the VLAN 60 and 110 is excluded on the interfaces in the GAL and how can I change it? Thank you.

    Thank you

    Sergej

Hi Sergei, you cannot configure the individual port within an OFFSET to a vlan. When you join the VLAN, you must select the offset group, not the individual port.

  • Configuration of vlan SG 300 - 28 p

    Hello

I tried to Setup VLAN on a SG300 - 28 p, but they do not work.

    This is my setup:

I want to Switch1 to have 1-10 ports to access the area demilitarized and 11-24 the LAN.

Then I wan to add switch2-4 to expand access to the local network.

    Is this possible?

I tested with cisco 2960 switches by saying just what ports forge have access to

DMZ and LAN, but small business switches are different...

    I really appreciate the help!

Hi Francisco, assuming that the 2960 worked and there was no difference in configuration then the problem would be that you have not added the VLAN to the trunk.  On a catalyst you do not configure the VLANS on a trunk, since all VLAN pass them. On SB switches, that you need to configure the VLANS on the trunk, otherwise only the VLANs native / default works.

  • Configuration of VLAN

    Hello

I am completely new to VLAN (relatively new infact for networking), so please forgive me if it is a question of amateur.

We recently purchased a Cisco SF 200 - 24 p switch.  I want to do the following:

We have 4 offices we want to separate completely, with the exception of a single server which will be a 3CX Server (IP phone).  They will also need access to the same line of the internet.

    What I miss is:

    Port 1: WAN

    Port 2: Server

    3-8 ports: Office 1

    9-14 ports: Office 2

    Ports 15-19: Office 3

    20 to 24 ports: 4 desktop

The router on Port 1 will DHCP and offices must be on different beaches of IP, while being able to access the internet and communicate with the server on port 2.

    Is this possible?

    Much appreciation for any help.

    Jon

    Hi Jon,

It is largely correct. Only Port1 will have to be a chest containing the VLAN 2-7.

As far as I'm concerned, you can do not need to remove the vlan 1, it is most likely not even possible.

DHCP will work as you describe. You must set up a helper application ip on each vlan-interface of the router.

    Kind regards

    Leo

  • Configure the vlan with SG 300 - 10 p and 520 SA

    Hi all

Forgive my ignorance, but I need help with the basic configuration.

For a small office, I bought an appliance of security SA520 (for future VPN with another remote desktop) and a switch of SG 300 - 10 p to connect 3 PCs and 3 IP PHONE. The SA 520 is the router. I have to configure 2 VLANS on the switch:

    VLAN2: DATA (for PC)

    VLAN3: VOICE (for IP PHONE)

    VLAN1: BY DEFAULT.

How can I configure simply all ports?

I would like to configure ports 1-4 on 5 to 8 ports and VLAN2, VLAN3 and G10 port is reserved for the SA520 router.

I want to split VOICE and DATA network.

    I think I need to create a trunk on G10 to SA520...

    Can someone help me?

    Hi Julien,

OK sounds like you use it vlan by default for network management and the vlan 2 for vlan3 for voice and data.

I use a calculator for this, my SA520 is ready at the present time.

Step 1   On the SA520 add vlan 2 and vlan 3 and label them voice and data respectively.

Step 2. Allows you to use the switch port 4 on the SA520 as a port to shared resources to the SG-300.

(my intent is to use vlan1 not tagged vlan tagged 2 and vlan tagged 3 on the uplink of the switch and the SA500.)

To do this, I have to say the SA520 port 4 of the switch will be in trunking and not access mode.

You will need to check the membership of vlan 2 and vlan 3 on switch port 4.

Step 3.  Now add a few IPS to VLAN2 and VLAN3

Step 4.  Create DHCP scopes if that is what is needed on the SA520

So now I hope that we have the SA520 with the associated IPS VLAN1, VLAN2 and VLAN3

We also have the switch port 4 as a network interface

We are vlan1 reproducing unidentified and vlan2 tag and tag to the SG-300 switch vlan3.

We do the opposite on the SG-300 switch.

If you use G10 as the uplink to the SA520 you'll notice of default port 10 must already be in trunk mode.

Switch ports G10 should be marked for vlan 2 and labelled for vlan3.  It will be, default Gi10 untagged for vlan1.

Make sure you keep ports switch is correctly set up.

    Best regards, Dave

  • Card crypto applied to the Vlan Interface of the 1841 router

Currently, our 1841 router has a T1 connected to the WIC T1, Comcast Cable connected to Fa0/0 and the local network connected to Fa0/1.  Tuesday, our 1841 will have an ethernet connection to a new gateway router instead of use the WIC T1.  I added a 4-port ethernet module to the router in the anticipation of this change.  Since the 4-port module is not layer 3 capable, I created a virtual local area network so that I can address the Vlan with the IP address that has been previously configured on the WIC T1.  My goal is to move our IPSec vpn tunnel interface series interface vlan newly created.  I was able to add all orders of the interface vlan, but I wanted to make sure that when the time comes to make the transition, the tunnel will be actually get when it is configured on an interface vlan that is then assigned to one of the four ethernet ports in the add-on.  Has anyone done this or seen that fact?  Potential drawbacks?  Thank you very much!
