Configure the iSCSI Volumes

Hi all!

Its the first time install Ubuntu Server on a Power Edge 2950 to me and
The question is when it comes to partitioning, it said that it has detected that active SATA disks--"one or more drives containing Serial ATA RAID configurations have been found. You want to activate these RAID devices? Turn on Serial ATA RAID devices. They gave me two options 'Yes' or «» I clicked 'Yes' because I thought that this would allow Ubuntu server configure RAID1 during installation. However, I was led to the disks Partition that says "this is an overview of your currently configured partitions and mount points. Select a partition to modify its settings..., and there are three options to choose from, namely:
Configure the iSCSI volumes
Undo changes to partitions
Finish partitioning and write changes to disk

So I don't know if I'm doing the thing to write here. When I chose 'To configure iSCSI Volumes', I was prompted to choose either log on to the target iSCSI or finishing. I don't know what to do from here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I found the solution, the problem was that the hard drive Master Boot Record was not present.

I run a Ubuntu Live CD and install it. The hard drive is already detected and the installation was successful.

Thank you very much!

  • Differences between the ISCSI connections to the storage in vSphere 4.1 and 5.0.

I'm in trouble of setting up the connections of storage in a new VSphere 5.0 test environment. In our environment VSphere 4.1, it was possible to create a virtual switch add two Broadcom NetXtreme II 5709 NIC. Set assets. IP Hash value as load balancing. (LACP Etherchannel on physical switches) This configuration uses a grain port and a single IP address. Then add our NetApp NFS storage and ISCSI Equillogic storage. In VSphere 5.0, I can't create this same configuration. I have to create separate with separate IP addresses vmkernal ports? The idea was to have redundant connections to the storage and flow of these two NETWORK cards. Possibly adding additional if necessary to the futuer NETWORK cards. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

How can I work around this:

"VMkernel network adapter must have an active link exactly and no waiting rising to be eligible for the iSCSI HBA connection."

I can certainly say that the way which allows you to configure the iSCSI Multipathing is incorrect.

The main idea is to let Native Multipathing Plugin to decide what network path to choose, not the vSwitch.

At the level of the network layer, you must have 1 VMK by a physical NIC.

This technique applies as well for vSphere 4.1 and 5.0, but with the 5.0 it is configured easier and more quickly.

Here's a very brief consequence of steps

    1. get 2 VMK interfaces and assign an IP by each VMK.

    2. set each VMK to use only one physical NETWORK adapter

3 GB with storage iSCSI software adapter, turn it on and bind your VMKs 2.

4 connect to your iSCSI storage space

5 rescan devices, create the VMFS datastore

    6. set the desired load balancing VMFS method or just set up a prior default create new VMFS

    Hello

Control Panel - SOUNDS - Audio peripheral devices configuration-manager

Make sure you write down the description and model double click top - tab drivers - write version. Now
Click on update drivers who cannot do anything like MS is far behind the certification of drivers. Then RIGHT
CLICK above and UNINSTALL - REBOOT - this will rebuild the driver stack.

If your driver shows 06 you have the default windows and part of the question.

Go to the system manufacturer's website and get the latest Audio/Sound drivers - download - SAVE - go to the place where you
Put them - right click on Reboot - RUN AS ADMIN -.

Check the Version on the tab of the driver in the device as a sound Manager often restoring drivers, then install
the current version. Restart and check after each try, not uncommon to have to run the pilot of 1 to 4 times or more.
Just make sure that the version you have installed appears in the tab of the driver.

Then navigate to the site of the manufacturer of the device and search for the drivers more recent and repeat the installation procedure.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

  • restore of the replica volumes

    Hello

I managed to do on the partner server replication groups without problem on my dell equallogic ps 6000 series. I have a central memory that acts as a main partner replying to a partner of secondary storage. I managed to move all volumes to the secondary partner. Now, here's what I want to do. I've set up a host secondary dell r910 to connect to this secondary storage partner to simulate a recovery site. I want to restore these replicated volumes that I now promoted to volumes by using the process of restoration of xenserver 6.2 just as it is setup in the main environment to restore volumes and boot from them to xenserver. You kindly could direct me to a document that can guide me through this process or help me with how to get there.

    Hi Jamie,

From EQL, once that you promoted them and set the access policy, you must reconnect to the server.

You will need to contact Citrix support on how to integrate online storage repositories, if that is your question.

You use storage link or if all goes well just the iSCSI SW adapter?

  • Adding additional iSCSI Volumes?

I have a cluster of 2 esx 4.0 host connected to an equallogic SAN.  Currently, the ESX hosts are connected to 1 volume on the equallogic and he VM 10-15 running using equallogic volume.  I created a new volume on the equallogic and configured to allow access of the two hosts.

My question is the following: to add the new volume for ESX hosts, should I simply go to each iSCSI host initiator and do a rescan "volumes"?  Is there any problem that would affect the other connected volume or the virtual machine; s that are on it?

    Thank you

My question is the following: to add the new volume for ESX hosts, should I simply go to each iSCSI host initiator and do a rescan "volumes"?

    That should do it.

I've never had one with EQ and renumerisations - you should be fine here.

  • How can I configure the SAN as much be access from the guest OS

Hello... first post ever here so I apologize if this was already asked, but so far I can't find an answer.

We have a 12 to SAN we would like to share and all the virtual machines on the virtual domain.

The SAN is a dell powervault MD3200i.

I read everything on iSCSI configuration, but what it feels like to give esxi host access to the LUNS for vmotion and other features of vcenter (made).

We need is our access as a guest VM OSs logic 12 TB of drive as a drive to share space.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

P.S. I tried connecting to the San of the guest OS via iSCI but once the MS iSCSI initiator will connect and connect to the IQN name local disk VM management cannot see the new volume/drive.

    1. Create a LUNa
    2. Add LUNa to the "storage group" in the SAN
    3. Add Datastore (LUNa) in vCenter formatted as a VMFS (datastore-LUNa)
    4. create a virtual machine.
      1. Installation of the OS, etc.
      2. Add the disk (vmdk)
        1. Select location "Datastore-LUNa.
        2. Maximum size, or you can create several small VMDK in "datastore-LUNa.
        3. Select another SCSI controller:
          1. OS (vmdk1) = 0:0 [(datastore-LUN-OSs)]
          2. Data1 (vmdk1) = 1:0 [(datastore-LUNa)]
          3. data2 (vmdk2) 2:0 = [(datastore-LUNa)]
          4. etc.
        4. log on to the operating system invited
        5. It Manager
          1. turn on the drive
          2. initialize
          3. etc.
      3. Activate the "File server" role in the guest virtual machine OS
        1. create shares as much as you want!
  • How to replace ESXi properly to keep the iSCSI datastore?

    Hi guys,.

I explore ESXi on a usbstick. It connects

a NAS server using iSCSI. It works fine, until I screwed something on the

Configuration of ESXi that it cannot be managed again VI client.

    Thus,.

I have replace the usbstick by a new one. Again install ESXi and iSCSI.

He finds the logic unit number, but it gives warning that using this LUN will destroy

all data in this document, which destroys fortunately when I click OK.

    Thus,.

in this case, it is good way to regain the intact data store if we

you will need to change the ESXi? Or, there is no such scenario?

    Thank you.

    Hello

So a VMFS store be reintroduced to ESX or ESXi the VMFS volume must be readable and correspond to the EUI header / NAA set to paths of storage host created in the esx.conf file or the VC DB vml. If this information is not present while the volume will not be presented as a usable existing VMFS store. I have a blog with some examples to reinstate VMFS stores based on OpenSolaris and ZFS iSCSI volumes.

    http://blog.laspina.ca/roller/ubiquitous/entry/provisioning_disaster_recovery_with_zfs

You can examine the EUI or NAA on any VMFS work and ESX volume with the following command.

    esxcfg-vmhbadevs - m

This gives command the name of dev which are associated with the volume and this info you can use hexdump similar to the following.

    hexdump - n 1100000/dev/sda1

The hexagonal header data will present it as this example output, the value in bold is the guid of stores.

With this information, you can recreate the vml, but it is difficult you should know the format, but for example, we can go.

Use the following command to see what exists in a lot of work.

    cat /etc/vmware/esx.confcat /etc/vmware/esx.conf | grep vml

    /Storage/LUN/VML.0200020000600144f07ed404000000492a2e140004434f4d535441/adapteriqn.1998-01.com.VMware:vh0.1/targetiqn.1986-03.com.Sun:02:1eddb8ec-CC09-62d0-B867-8da28dee9609/

Here we see the part that must match in blue.

Also a little advice on usb based ESXi priming devices, you should not run this type of config at least as the creator of the image usb provided a virtual disk for the swap area.

Flash multi layer devices will fail quickly if the swap partition area is on the flash device.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite L850-1V0 - module cooling fan runs constantly at the same volume

I've had this laptop since the middle of February this year. I experienced a few problems I am getting concerned:

The first is my fan, regardless of how high the percentage of my CPU temperature is that it will always show that the fan works at a speed of 0%, even though I can hear and feel running. A couple of days, it started to go louder for awhile, then «return to normal»

Second, the fan can be heard at the same volume of work constantly and I can't seem to find a way to make it less work.

The third problem is bit hard to explain. I am aware that you can feel the phone vibrates because of fan work when you rest your palms on it (for example by typing), sometimes it starts to vibrate more difficult but the fan does not noise, that it should when he is working harder.

The fourth problem is that I can hear beeps from my region of fan on the right side of the laptop. They are all the same length in time - long. I think that is not the same length so that lies that beeping, but I cannot prove message beeps a beep code message I looked average.

Problems with the fan began occurring about 9 days after the purchase, it was after I connected my Sony Xperia you to back up the phone. The problem was that it would not back the photos. I was using the pc software that you can install when first connect you your phone via USB. I tried to update my phone once the prgram gave me a message saying wa there is a new update was available for my phone.

Now surely connect my phone to my laptop wouldn't do go funny. I mentioned that because it is the only odd thing that happened before that happened, funny. Everything was fine before this.

Also the rotating blue circle near the cursor appears almost all the time when I open programs. Also, when I click on the browser icon in my taskbar tasks it does not open the program instantly, instead the gray/white background appears as its opening then disappears, then the program opens. Overall, some things have been slower in comparison with before I connected the phone.

Also, being a laptop with 8 gb, I don't think I would have from norton 360 messages saying that I use to record high by some programs. These programs were on my phone before my fan has been upward.

I stuck with the problems this as much as I use it to revise for my A levels. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do.

    Help is essential,

My experience says portable behavior depends very much on its use and configuration of the computer personal laptop is not easy to give good advice. To check first please cooing fan settings. You can change the fan cooling activity in Control Panel > power options > change the power plan > change advanced power settings > Toshiba saving settings > cooling method.

The change please in optimized battery option. This should reduce the activity of fan cooling.
    Please test and post comments.

Vibration? Similar problem was my brother on his P300. It is worth noting a few small vibrations but unfortunately there is nothing to do about it. What you can do is to call the Toshiba service in your country, explain the situation and ask if such behaviour is known to them and what we can do about it.

    Hello

I'll do a fw upgrade during normal operation on a stack of 6224 circulating BPMH, I am currently aware of recommendations Dells run RSTP on switches configured for iSCSI traffic connected to Equallogic SAN.

I intend to set up another pile with two 6224 to failover and then perform the upgrade on the stack of "old." My question is if it's possible to run BPMH on the 'old' stack RSTP executing on the new stack when LAG is configured between the two batteries?

Another option would be if it is possible to reconfigure the 'old' UME to RSTP stack without interruption between the hosts and the SAN first?

Guidance on this subject would be greatly appreciated

Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol is based on RSTP and is backward compatible with

RSTP and STP. So, you should be able to run BPMH on the old and RSTP on the new.
