confusion of data store capacity
Hello.
I have three ESXi servers in a cluster.
The servers have a Clariion LUN system present themselves.
This is the LUN where comments OS virtual HARD drive.
The logic unit number is about 300 G, but when I look at the summary in the inventory menu > datastore > it shows space set aside 900 g
Please see the attached picture. I'm confused why it shows more than allocated space.
Can someone please advise. Thank you
With ESXi, you can create thin discs. If you create a virtual disk 40 GB slim, the initial size is close to 0, but you install / add the files to the virtual disk grows in the data store (for a maximum of 40 GB). If you are looking for the data store and search in a folder of the virtual machine, you will see that ESXi will report the size actually used plus size provisioned (40 GB in this example). In addition, when you take a snapshot, the space put into service for the snapshot files is equal to the size of the virtual disk. So if you create a new virtual machine with a thin disk of 40 GB, then immediately create a snapshot on this subject, space used will be minimal, but the area put into operation will be 80 GB.

A better description for "alarm data store capacity.
I tried to find a description for the "ability of the data store alarm." In the list of the alarms of the Victoria Cross, there is this: default alarm that goes off when the capacity status changes to support the data store or the volumes.
I guess I don't understand what "State of capacity for the volume" means exactly/specifically. Can someone explain?

Use the error report data store capacity
Hello world
When I try to get the report for a capacity of data store, I got an error like home but he had no explanation for the error.
Does anyone know why I get this error? I've updated vCOps from 5.0.3 to 5.6. Maybe it has to do something with that.
Thank you in advance.
Thanks for the replies;
I mean by object parent exactly your situation - this is the under(inside?) folder.
If you can, try to move a data store on the file and reports should work for it.
in any case, it is a known problem that will be fixed in the next version of update.

I have a script that runs a space check before cloning a virtual machine on a data store. Sometimes, he appears to fail (well it ends by design) and behaves as if there is not enough space. However, if I manually update the properties of the data store by clicking on the button shown in the previous screenshot it sppears to work regularly. Can someone please give an example if how I can essentially this key for a specific in PowerCLi data store so that I could incorperate it into my script.
Thank you
The following should do the same thing as the button.
The cmdlet Get-Datastore Gets the information from the object of vSphere.
Due to performance reasons that the info is updated on intervals, or when you ask explicitly for an update.

Trend of the report data store capacity
I am trying to create a table that will mimic what is the report of countenance of canned data store. I don't know what settings to select. I know its used space, the total space, hours to full and weekly rates of growth. I tried using the averages of the period, or period min or max period, I tried current average, current min and max current. No combination seems to spit on the same results the report canned. the reason why I need to do this is that my manager doesn't want a 90-page report when we can adapt it on as pages 8 and 9 using a table. I tried to export the report using excel, but the format it uses is not good and it makes them bounce like 4000 lines. Please help with the design of report.
While calculating dynamic, focused on the function of these settings exclude the possibility to reproduce this report as a table using drag / drop, it is certainly possible to build this tabular report using WCF.
Kind regards

Available by cluster data store capacity
Hi guys
I was wondering anyone can help me? Looking for a script that counts datastore space free (only VMFS non-local) and how many virtual machines can be supplied by cluster take the average size of a virtual computer as 50 GB.

Capacity of data store poster now much smaller than the original configuration
Hi all
I have my new configuration of server DELL R710 - 2 x 146 GB drives in the server on a RAID 1, connected to an MD1000 with 10x146GB in a RAID 10 SAS drives, and 5 x 750 GB SAS drives in a RAID 5. My controllers RAID show each virtual table as you would expect to see the ability, however, VMware now shows my RAID 5 744 GB data store, instead of the 2.5 to he showed last night! My VM on this data store seems solid, but I have no idea where my ability went. I'm under ESXi 4 - free Version.
What can I do to recover this loss of capacity?
ESX (i) has a limit of 2 TB LUN and with ESXi you end up with the rest of storage after have been subtracted portions of 2 TB (i.e. TB 4.7 LUN donnerait.7 TB of storage (4: 7 - 2.0 - 2.0)). With most of the controllers, you can create multiple LUNS on the same disks that you can use the complete storage if you create 2-Bay RAID 5 on the 750 GB drives.

Increase the capacity of data store, which with the block size?
Hello
I am trying to expand my datastore 2 TB, I added a new lun 2 TB of the FC SAN TB 4 even and there is no problem adding this in the existing data store.
But the existing data store is formatted in VMFS3 with a block size of 4 MB for a maximum file size of 512 GB. But when I try to extend the data store to select the size of the block is set to 1 MB and disabled.
The measure automatically takes on the size of the original block or wil he get a block size of 1 MB? There are some > 256GB files on the existing data store and I think I'd get a strange behavior, if half of the data store is 4 MB and the other half is 1 MB blocksize. Can anyone confirm that the blocksize wil be the same for the measure?
I can also make a second warehouse 2 TB one manually fracture the virtual machine on 2 data warehouses. is there any advantages or disadvantages to this approach?
Don't you worry, add an item to an existing data store certainly will not change the size of the block. In any case, if it is an option that you can use two data warehouses, I would. With two distinct data warehouses that you will not only be able to spread the load on each of these LUNS but also avoid the complexity. With ESXi 5 (VMFS-5), a single LUN can grow up to 64 ~ to without needing extensions.
BTW, a 4MB block size allows 1 TB less than 512 bytes.

Cannot increase the capacity of VMFS 5.54 data store

I'm a bit confused and could use clarification of a person.
I'm looking to a virtual machine through the vSphere Client and it has an alert telling me that my free space data store is low. 17.55 free GB of 134,75 GB total capacity. I'm running ESX 4.0 for the host and my VM running Server 2008.
I'm confused because when I connect to the virtual computer and check the use of disk in my computer, it does not reflect what vSphere tells me. This particlular VM is little used and the use of the disk under windows is very very low. About 20 GB.
Can someone tell me why these numbers are not matching? I have other virtual machines that are in the same situation.
Thank you
Blake
I think that you may be mixing two things up, the vSphere client will only warn about the data store, the VMFS volume, you have created and presented to ESX. You then create a VMDK file for your Virtual Machine to use. If you assign more than 80% of your data store to a VMDK or several VMDK then the customer will report a warning on its use. WARNING 80% 90% critical even if inside each VMDK file you may be using only a couple of GB.
If you give a little more detail on the virtual machine and the data store, we should be able to get out.
Hope this helps,
Dan

If anyone knows what I m hurt you showme how please!
Two thoughts:
- If you have changed somehow the object type that you want to keep, you must remove the Simulator files before running again.
- How about you provide a clue as to where the class cast exception that happens? You are more likely to help in this way.

Hi all
I have a confusion about the physical and logical length in the ODI file data store.
I have a fixed-width file where a c2 col had datatype as string (30).
I've set this column in the data as string store > physical length 30 > logic length 30
My interface failed with error as '.
ORA-12899: value too large for column 'S0_IDM '. «C$ _0S0_EAGLE_DWHCDC_CHRG_MST ".» "" "C2_CHARGE_DESC" (real: 31, maximum: 30).
When I increased the logical length to 255, the interface worked fine.
Being always the same 30 physical length.
How different is it?
Any help on this will be appreciated.
Thanks and greetings
Reshma
This isn't the official documentation, but here's my point of view, after a few moments of reflection
Everything you do in the ODI Designer is inspired by the logical architecture. Only when running it manifested in a physical implementation i.e. connection strings are materialized etc. When you perform an integration ODI creates usually a few temporary tables prefixed with C$, I$ etc to be able to perform the necessary data movement and the transformations needed to, for example, to fill a data target (table) store. In your example, your flat file is materialized in such a temporary table before that its content is manipulated (or not) and loaded in the target data store. When ODI generates this code that he uses the logical length emitted in the DDL that generates temporary table column lengths, the physical column is ignored.
Now in your scenario is not a problem as constraints such as these do not matter to the physical file version knowledge if you were to write to the file, that it would not matter if you wrote return 255 characters or 31. This could be a problem if you were using database tables and varying the logical vs physical lengths but generally you reverse engineer tables from database using ODI rather than manually doing so makes better.
Anyway, in short, I think that the logical lengths should be taken as representative which will manifest itself in the materialization of the temporary objects used to manged / transform the data from the source models (tables$ CAN) and target (I have tables$) while the physical lengths indicate what the underlying physical representation of these models are in reality.
EDIT: after reading some logical documentation actually represents the length while physics is related the number of bytes required to store the data. Therefore, you could have a situation with multibyte characters where the physical length could be greater than the logical length but not really the other way around.

provisiond data store space does not match with the space of the VMs
Hi guys,.
I have the particular phenomenon on my cVenter environment. Space brought into service on data warehouses does not correspond with the really used capacity of the virtual machines.
Details:
VCenter: VMware vCenter 6.0.0 3634793
ESXi: ESXi 5.5.0, 3568722
Storage: The Netapp Cluster Mode
NFS data warehousesVirtual machines allocate more space such as assigned. It could be 100% more space. There are no files that are responsible for this in the data store. We have allowed efficiency of storage which means on the Netapp deduplication.
In the opinion of vCenter - the data store has a provisiond about 1 TB space and really about 550 GB space (space of each unique virtual machine). You know this problem or something like that?
Best regards
Thanks for your replies, but it's a feature of Netapp called fractional reserve.
This reserved feature 0% or 100% of the space.
Has anyone experiences with the option of fractional reserve and volumes NFS for ESXi? What is the best value for this?

Rename files within the data store
Hi all
I'm trying to rename some folders and files in my local data store.
That's what I see in my local data store
/
TestBiz-(il s'agit d'une machine Virtuelle)
. SDD.SF
TestNav-(il s'agit d'une machine Virtuelle)
Apps
images
TestBiz contains
TestBiz01.vmdk
TestBiz01 - 000001.vmdk
TestBiz01.vmx
TestBiz01.nvram
VMware.log
TestBiz01.vmsd
Now my problem is the following. The names of the two virtual machines must be lit. TestBiz must be TestNav. If I rename not only the record, but the files themselves who will break my servers?
I am aware of the mixture to the top, but I don't want others in the future to get confused.
Any help would be great
Thanks in advance
Welcome to the community,
There was a current discussion on VMs rename (change the name of files and folders in data warehouses) which also contains links to some articles in the KB. However, in your case, the virtual machine has an active snapshot, and you should definitely remove the snapshot before you rename the virtual computer!
BTW. where the virtual machine is managed in a vCenter server environment, you can automatically rename the virtual machine by changing the name of the virtual machine in the inventory of the GUI and then he migrate to another data store.

Please help: measure is missing from the data store

Hello
You asked for instructions on how to readd a missing measure.
Basically, it's pretty easy:
in the VMFS to VMFS-based volume header section, you can assign extends it.
Lets say that the basic volume is mpx.vmhba1:C0:T3:L0:1
first of all extend is mpx.vmhba1:C0:T4:L0:1
second extension is mpx.vmhba1:C0:T5:L0:1
Then you will see this string in the VMFS header:
vmhba1:3:0
and a little laterMPX.vmhba1:C0:T3:l0:1
MPX.vmhba1:C0:T4:l0:1
MPX.vmhba1:C0:T5:l0:1
Just change the list of stretches.
But: normally you can't change this section at all, and to add to the confusion, these values are stored in RAM is not trivial to change this value correctly.
I highly recommend that instead of try it yourself and repeat all the mistakes I made while learning it - call me.
I rather help you personally to give dangerous advice that will probably make things worse.
