Connected HDMI but no active video

I have a Dell desktop running Windows 8 and a flat screen tv.  I use a cable vga w / audio for watching tv via the computer, but want to use a HDMI cable instead.

When I connect the HDMI cable, all I get is a black screen with a bar of icons at the bottom of the screen.  If I indicate an icon, the mini screen will show what it is, but I can't get the full version of the screen to show on the HDMI input #, but when I go back to the vga input #, it got there.

The Control Panel does not recognize the second connection (HDMI), just the vga.

Hi Pat,

  • Best connection HDMI for STR-DN850?

The online manual for STR-DN850 gives an overview of "devices with HDMI sockets connection." In this discussion, they use labels to HDMI input on the receiver (i.e., SAT/CATV, GAME, etc.).  But then, they say: "Note: this HDMI connection is an example."  You can connect each HDMI device to any HDMI input, including the HDMI input on the front panel".  It is a standard approach to connect HDMI devices to a receiver.

However, they will then say: "BD/DVD and CD/SACD input has better sound quality.  When you need better sound, connect your device to these jacks and select as input. »

It's really weird. CANY anyone (from Sony or a user) explain what that means?

I just got a new Apple TV and plugged into the HDMI CD/SACD input jack.  I was using a Roku XS system which was connected to the HDMI Video Jack.  The audio and video to the Apple TV are much better than what I got with the Roku - even using the same original material (Netfllix).  Now, the Apple TV can actually provide superior sound and video - but I was surprised by the magnitude of the difference and I wonder if the HDMI port, I used contributed to this difference.

I'm happy with the way in which the receiver treats the Apple TV - but it mystifies me why the HDMI port makes a difference.

    If anyone can clarify this?

    David

    Hi Redfearn,

Ports BD/DVD and CD/SACD has better sound quality because these prioritized audio and video ports. Other ports such as CATV/SATV, GAME and video (MHL) a priority and used mainly for viewing only.

    Thank you

  • Connection HDMI 2710 change screen size

When I have my monitor 2710 connected via DVI for my video (ATI Radeon HD 4600) adapter cable the OS window occupies the entire screen.  If I connect the monitor via a HDMI cable on the same card that I have about 1 inch of black space on all sides and the top and bottom.

When I look at the properties for the screen resolution, the two bodies say 1920 X 1080.

    I'm under Win7Ultimate.

Any ideas why the HDMI connection is reflected in the black space on the edges?

    Thank you

    Brian

The ATI graphics card think it is connected to a HDMI is a standard TV THIS (electronics). TV is known for overscanniing, so the graphics card by default underscans to 8% for HDMI. This can be changed to 0%.

In the Catalyst Control Panel, there should be an option in the scroll bar and television digital (HDMI) where scaling Option. See the image below.

  • Qosmio F50 - arrow signal when connected HDMI cable

    Hello

I was able to connect my laptop to my LCD TV (LG LH4000) via HDMI, but all 3 ~ 5 seconds it seems to receive a signal of the up arrow.
Let's say I'm reviewing some files in the windows Explorer and making the file, as if someone presses the arrow pointing upwards.

This only happens when its connected via HDMI. As soon as I unplug the cable, he stops to do.

I tried to look for similar problems, but no luck.

    Thanks for your help

    Hey Buddy,

That s really strange, I must say...

Did you test another monitor with HDMI connection?
Have you tested another high quality HDMI cable?

In addition, it would be interesting to know what operating system you have. Preinstalled operating system from Toshiba is installed?

Is there a setting in the training Camp that must be turned on to make it work? I have connected screen but could not get a desktop display.  Any help would be really appreciated! TY

The monitor should have a TB and adapter power connector. The monitor works on both OSX. ? If so, shut down of windows, connect monitor and start Windows. Your TB 2012 monitor is not plug-and-play with Windows.

Please see ports Thunderbolt and views: frequently asked questions (FAQ) - Apple Support .

    1. the "hot pluggable" Thunderbolt devices using Windows with Boot Camp?

Thunderbolt hot plugging is supported under Windows 8 or 8.1 on all Macs from 2014 and later.

For all other Mac computers, Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 scans and active them Thunderbolt devices connected to ports Thunderbolt during the Windows startup process. If your device has been plugged in not at startup, Windows detects not without a reboot.

  • Connection HDMI Wont

Hi, I have a Hp Pavilion Dv6 and my OS is Windows Vista Home Premium(32bit). I've been on the web, trying to find an answer for so long and couldn't find a definitive answer. The best result I got he was trying on a different OS (I use Ubuntu). I connected HDMI and it would connect. I would then restart the computer with Windows, then it worked. But no more. It is not the cause of driver, I've just updated. Any help would be amazing. I want just a permanent solution.

You know, I can't think a reason in the world where it's going to matter in the practical world; I can't say that she would never harm;  I used to write code and as SOON as someone made a statement like that, poof!  There it is.

Good code never interferes with operations.

It's filled with 32-bit code running on 64-bit computers - it cost a fortune filled to rewrite it to the 64-bit code and it will be faster on systems that could take advantage of the changes.

    Another oddity:

When you upgrade, if you are upgrading to Windows 7 and Windows 8, take a look at the resource monitor and watch all the code of 'Vista' still running on the computer.

Check if a process is running under a different context of the OS through application compatibility shims

To see the context of the BONE and the ' 32 / 64-bit ' platform in the resource monitor:

    • Open the resource monitor (via the Task Manager) > click CPU so that it opens the list of CPUS >
    • Right click on the Ribbon to the top of the column, say next to 'Image', then the menu opens and you can add columns >
    • Add the columns 'Platform' and 'Operating system context'

    Short answer:

    If the computer is 64-bit,

    Don't worry about this.

The computer doesn't care and can handle any type of program you throw at it.

    If the computer is 32-bit,

    You might encounter some restrictions,

The computer will tell you when to worry about this.

    Happy computing!

Oh, I think that your HDMI fix must 'stick '.  If this isn't the case, then it's a simple matter to start over and just do things in order.  The only way you could get into trouble is if you do not have a good surge protector or if you are not running a UPS where you should.

  • There is no VGA Jack on the back of my brand new computer! There are DVI and HDMI, but not VGA!

Brand new HP Pavilion p6745f computer. Time to connect, create a boot disk, install Kaspersky Anti-virus and then see that old programs will still work. The first step, hook up monitor... OK... hmm... no plug VGA input. There is a white DVI and the black input HDMI but... huh? Should not be a VGA? The monitor is only a couple of years... Has anyone seen this?

Pretty much any store of electronices, you can purchase a DVI - I to VGA Converter. That's what you need to be able to use your old monitor.

    Best regards

  • Since version 18.0.0, Firefox regularly replace some parts of my screen when it is enlarged but not active (Outlook or Word); is there any solution for this?

Any time I can get Firefox enlarged but not active (so it is behind another active window / application) on Windows XP Pro SP3, it regularly replace significant portions of my screen. If I move the mouse, type, scroll up/down or anything to change the screen, the active application is slowly starting to appear. For example, in Office 2007, when this happens, I can continue typing a sentence in Word or Outlook and this line is displayed, but the rest of the message area displays remnants of Firefox. If I move the mouse along the Ribbon of Office, it will be displayed in pieces are the reached mouse. This problem has been held regularly since the version 18.0.0 and persists in 18.0.1. I prefer not to minimize Firefox so I can move conveniently via Alt - Tab from Firefox and the other application, in that I work, but this problem that is almost impossible. FYI, when I'm in Firefox, no other pop application on top, not other applications show otherwise, so I know that the problem is caused by Firefox and/or interaction weird with the new version and installed plugins, drivers or other software.

Could you try to disable graphics hardware acceleration? (I have trouble determining your "more system information" if it is enabled or disabled). As this feature has been added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there are still some problems.

You need to restart Firefox for it to take effect, so save any work first (e.g. you compose mail, documents online that you are editing, etc.).

Orange Firefox button or classic menu Tools > Options > advanced

In the mini ' General' tab, uncheck the box for "use hardware acceleration when available.

If you restart Firefox, the problem is solved?
