• RNR4000 password recovery (Readynas 1100) failed using the OS install procedure

  I followed the procedure to perform a password recovery by pressing the reset button while you turn on/off the system. Now the NAS is stuck saying "File System Check" in startup RAIDar. RAIDar shows correct, model host name and the IP address has reset to 192.168.168.168. All road lights are green. How can I recover this system now that it does not start? Should I make a boot USB or boot TFTP?

  I just bought a second hand Cisco 2821. There is a game of password and the password recovery feature is disabled.

  A bit of searching around shows that you can reset the router to the factory default configuration by pressing pause at the right time.

  The process works because I used it several times.  The reason why it does not work for you is maybe because of the way your client sends the "Ctrl + Break" overall.  It's very obvious when you use a USB-to-serial dongle.

  Hi Brian,.

  The command that you see in the RFSO are in rommon mode, not in the normal PIX config mode, you must reload the PIX, when IP is starting, keeping hitting the ESC key and it will take you to the rommon mode. Then, you can find these commands.

• 4240 and password recovery

  I tried upgrading my 4240 via MSC sensor to IPS-CS-MGR-K9-7.0-5a-E4.  The upgrade has failed and the device was inaccessible!

  I consoled in the device and rebooted.  The login prompt is displayed, but the combo of user name and password admin does not work.  I went through the password recovery procedure, but now looks like this:

  In order to reset the password in the start menu, you need to interrupt the boot of the switch process.  Console in and power cycle the switch, you should see the Cisco logo, then you have about two seconds press a key to get the boot menu.  If you miss it (or it expires once your inside) power cycle just the switch again to bring it up again.  The switch in front of me, it is option 3 to reset the password.

  However, it is possible to disabled this option, so if it is not available in the start menu the only way to restore access to the switch will be factory default by pressing the button, rest for 30 seconds.  Then you will need to reconfigure the device, but the default cisco/cisco connection you will get once the switch resets.

• When windows asks me to isnert a password recovery disk, it does not offer the possibility to create one in the D drive, where I have a DVD. Why?

  I have a new Dell XPS with Windows 7 Home computer. I want to create a password recovery disk. I have (1) check my CD/DVD drive works (2), I watched the video on how to create a password reset disk (3) I did the procedure successfully in the past on other computers (4) I rebooted the computer after having difficulty finding the opportunity to insert a disk in drive D, the name of the drive for my DVD / CD player. What is the problem?

  The problem is that when I am asked to insert a disc in the player I'd give myself a choice is not drive D, the name of the drive to my CD/DVD drive.
  So over and over again once I wonder to insert the disc. I also have one of these drives you can put 4 holders memory size different from the type used in cameras and I have a DVD player, it is called D drive.  Why I'm not given the option to use drive D when I'm given a choice I can insert a disc so that the password recovery disk can be created?

  Change the assignment of drive letter for the dvd player to one letter other than.

  1. sign the computer as an administrator.

  2. Insert a disk in the removable drive.

  3. type computer management in the start search box and press ENTER.

  4. click on disk management.

  5 right-click the partition, logical drive or volume that you want to change and then clickchange drive letter and paths.

  6. click on the removable drive, click it, clickchange, click the drive letter that you want to use, and then clickOK.

  I don't know how you open links received via the password reset email, but in the case where you use copy/paste please make sure that you do not select the period (.) at the link.
