Conversion HP Envy H8 - 1413C of disk in RAID (preloaded Windows 8)

Here are the steps I took to convert my brand new HP Envy H8 - 1413C
a same drive "C:" to a matrix RAID-1 ("mirrored").

There are some 'extra' parts you will need:

* a "spare" SATA, at least 120 GB, which does no file important to this topic.
* at least 5 writable DVD - R or DVD + R blank discs.
* two cables SATA.
* marking pen to write on the 5 writable discs.
* a 16GB (or more) USB memory-stick, or writable CD - R discs.
* two screwdriver - flat head, a Phillips (cross) head.
* a new SATA disk drive, the same size and manufacturer and speed (7200 RPM)
and speed of transfer of data SATA as the Seagate 2000 GB-disk drive factory installed.
* a small pair of scissors.
* a few screws (you will need to hold the new disks in its place).

1. on your current computer, go to: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=cp-110846-1
Download the file "sp58558.exe", which is 12,92 MB in size.
2. save this file on the memory stick, or burn it to CD - R disc.
3. remove the HP Envy H8 - 1413C from the package delivery system.
4. only connect the keyboard and mouse, display and power cord.
Do not connect to the Internet and don't connect to a PictBridge compatible printer.
5. connect the screen and turn it on.
6 turn on the computer and immediately and repeatedly F10, until the computer enters the installation program.
7. in SETTING mode, press the right arrow key and press the arrow key once down.
8 change the mode from AHCI RAID disks (which includes AHCI).
You can use the "Advanced" options to set the delay to 5 seconds.
9 economy-and-exit installation mode.
10. leave the Windows 8 start and finish setting up Windows.
Don't worry about issues during Setup.
This installation of Windows 8 is only "temporary."
11. Once Windows 8 is running, press F1 for, type 'help '.
12 get in 'Help' for more about 'create a system recovery disc '.
13 run the program suggested to create system recovery disks.
You will use these 5 writable DVD discs.
14 label 5 discs. Do * NOT * lose them!
15. shut down the computer.
16 unplug the AC power and remove the side panel of the computer case.
17. use the screwdriver on the screw that keeps the "cage" in the disk drive.
18 press and hold on the small lever to "unlock" the cage of the frame.
19 slide the cage slightly to the CD/DVD drive.
He needs to 'unlock' the cage.
20 raise the cage a bit and disconnect the cables of power/data from the hard disk.
21. remove the cage.
22. use the screws to mount the "spare wheel" SATA drive in the cage.
23. carefully use scissors to cut the cable tie in plastic-the wind, to release another outlet 'power' of SATA.
24. connect a spare SATA cable on the disks 'in relief '. Leave the other end free.
24 start to set in place disks cage in the motherboard.
25 connect the SATA 'taken' on the hot spare.
26 finish put the cage in the motherboard.
27 screw it up.
28 connect the 'loose' end of the SATA data cable to any empty data SATA socket on the motherboard.
29. reconnect AC power.
30 turn on your computer and immediately and repeatedly press the F9 key to display the menu "Boot Order".
31. Insert the first 5 disks in the DVD player.
32 select the disc in the DVD drive as "start".
33 use 5 disks to install Windows 8 on the disks 'in relief '.
34. yet once, it is a 'temporary' installation - don't worry about options.
35 off Windows.
36 disconnect AC power.
37. yet once, remove the cage that holds the disks, disconnect the wires of power/data.
38 remove the drives 'in relief' of the cage.
39. install the 'new' disk drive (same size as the original drive) in the cage.
40. connect the data cables SATA 2 for 2 discs.
41 see the SATA ports on the motherboard - the 2 closest ports to the TOP of the computer
are the (faster) 6 GB/s ports, while the other ports are (slower) 3 GB/s ports.
42. If the DVD drive SATA cable is connected to one of the two ports, 6 GB,
compress the end (to unlock the end of the shooting) and move the end
in one of the ports / 3GB.
43. connect the cables 'pair' of disks SATA 6 GB/s ports.
44. connect two Sockets "" SATA to the 'pair' of discs.
45 lower the cage into his house and screw it up.
46 put the "spare" drive (which now has the 'temporary' copy of Windows 8).
and drag it into the empty location of 5.25 inch "under"the player. "
47 connect the power and data on this drive,
and connect the other end of the data cable to one of the SATA ports on the motherboard.
48. reconnect AC power.
49 turn on the computer and repeatedly press F9, to enter SETUP mode.
50 changing the order of "start up" to make the "spare" drive the first to start.
51 economy-and-exit installation mode and let it boot to Windows 8.
52 insert support (memory-stick or CD disc) that has the file 'sp58558.exe '.
53 run to install the RAID configuration utility.
Note that he refuses (in silence!) to install completely.
If you have not used SETUP mode to change "AHCI" to "RAID".
54 open 'my computer '.
55 open the "C:" drive (check that it is the disc of "spare",
not the installed at the factory by car).
56 open the folder "Program Files (x 86)".
57 change in mode 'Details' in this folder.
58. find the folder with the most recent timestamp - the 'sp58558.exe' this file was updated.
59 open this folder.
60 open the subfolder with the "RAID" as part of the file name.
61. run the ".exe" file to run the RAID Configuration utility.
62 use the utility to set/create a "RAID-1 (mirrored)" or an array of "RAID 0 (striped).
by selecting the 'pair' record.
63 off Windows.
64 disconnect AC power.
65 remove the "spare" disk drive and set aside.
65. reconnect AC power.
66 turn on the computer and immediately press F9 to temporarily change the boot order.
67 put the first 5 disks in the DVD player.
68 select start in the DVD.
69 use 5 disks to install Windows on the 'pair' record.
70. He is a 'real' Windows installation, if carefully to meet the guests, then choose options.
71 re - install the utility 'sp58558.exe '.
72 run RAID Configuration utility to check the status of your RAID configuration.
73 plug your Ethernet cable to access the Internet.
74 activate Windows.
75 use "Add/Remove Programs" to uninstall Norton Internet Security.
76 open the windows 'Control Panel'.
77 open the "Windows Security Center" app - install Norton disabled.
78 select "Windows Defender" (before Windows 8, this software was named "Microsoft Security essential" free anti-virus).
So, instead of paying $$$ after the end of the period of 'test' of Norton, you have FREE antivirus software.
79 connect your printer (Windows can connect to the Internet to download device drivers).
80 run Windows Update to get the latest updates and Windows Defender, your printer for Windows 8 itself.

So, you have installed Windows 8 * THREE * times.  Fun, huh?

No thanks to HP, to make the RAID Configuration utility a Windows application only.
rather than make accessible mode of BIOS CONFIGURATION.

Thanks to HP for not identify 2 SATA ports on the motherboard are only two ports "fast."

No thanks to HP for this 'sp58558.exe' file _not_ put it back in the software.
unless the motherboard went from "AHCI" mode in "RAID" mode
This is probably why the 'preloaded' version of Windows 8 does not include this software,
force the user to download/install separately.

Questions?

Hi again,

It's weird because all of the Intel RAID drivers I used install in AHCI mode and I use 11.6.0.1030.  I then run the MS MrFixIt fix and that I start.  However, I have not tried with the W8.

  • HP ENVY 17-N078CA laptop: seeking the machine with windows 8.1 - and the upgrade to 10.

    Hi all

I am looking at buying a machine to re-furb.

    HP ENVY 17-N078CA laptop

The machine has windows 8.1 and I wanted to know if there was problems with upgrade to windows 10.

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

I read your post about upgrading your PC to Win10 and wanted to help.

While HP has not tested your PC with Win10 and has not certified it will work, the good news is that HP does not provide drivers for your PC Win10: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-17-n000-notebook-pc-touch/7777355/model/8429748#Z7_3054ICK0K8UDA0AQC11TA930O2

If this page does not display the windows 10 when you open it, then click Edit and select Windows 10 in the menu drop-down.

Unfortunately, the Win10 GoBack function is NOT reliable, and that can leave you with a corrupt machine that will require the factory reset and lose all that on it, to get it working again.

You can avoid this by making an image backup to an external hard drive or a USB drive using Macrium reflect (MR), which provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or drives together.

What I recommend is the following:
    (1) download and install Macrium reflect (MR)
    (2) run M. and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition (s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB key
    (3) use the option to create a CD or a USB startup key

NOW, you have the means to restore a full system that works for the external hard drive or USB key in a few minutes.

    Good luck

I'm a volunteer and I do not work for, or represent, HP.

External DVD USB drives are cheap. Usually $20 for a good quality player. Just buy one of these at Best Buy or another store and use it to install Snow Leopard. Then you also have a drive for something else that you have on the disk.

    Harddrivealert, welcome to the forum.

If you use original recovery disks it will restore the computer to its orignal configuration, including Vista.  You can't get recovery for the computer disks that include Win 7.  You will need to purchase a full copy of Windows.  You need to make sure that you can find all the drivers for Win 7.

  • I have a computer that has Windows 2000 Pro, I can use the disk to upgrade to Windows XP with this OS?

I have a computer that has Windows 2000 Pro, I can use the disk to upgrade to Windows XP with this OS? It's

an old computer, but it works very well.  I want to switch to XP using the Windows upgrade disc. But

in the specifications it lists only 98, 98 Second and ME as an operating system you can upgrade.  Thanks John

Provided the specifications of the computer meets Windows XP you can switch from 2000 to XP. If it does not meet the specifications, you may upgrade the computer first or get a new one which is more cheaper today.

In addition, please note that you can only switch to Windows XP Professional. If it is a home edition you have then it will not work. You can refer to the link below on how to update your copy of Windows 2000 to Windows XP Pro.

When I turn on the laptop, I see the gateway logo, then white text that says press F11 for recovery of the system, but it goes to a black screen. Pressing on F8 does nothing and if you press the power button, the laptop shut down immediately.
After you run the Bootcfg command in the Console of a Windows XP disk recovery, I managed to get the ability to run safe mode.
