Convert computer virtual Hyper-V on ESXi 4.1

Hello

I'll be using vCenter Converter Enterprise 4.2.1 to convert a few Hyper-V virtual machines to ESXi 4.1. Converter

has an option for Hyper-V and see the virtual machine. These convert motor on or off? Any gotcha in this process?

You convert Hyper v (2008) or Hyper-V 2.0 (2008 R2).  If you use Hyper-V (2008) then you want to remove your integration components before the conversion.  Depending on your operating system, you may need to change your network driver.  The only other requirements is to go into your virtual machine once converted and remove all ghost devices in DevMgr.  You can do that by typing the following in a command prompt form:

Set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices = 1
Start devmgmt.msc

Go to the file menu, expand the view and select Show hidden devices.

Good luck.  Ive done much P2Vs of Hyper-V with great success.

    Machine 2

I tried using the conversion tool and get an error message "actively denied connection to the target computer.  I tried all the possible scenarios regarding the installation of conversion on each machine tool.  I made sure that telnet runs on both machines.  I found little or no information on this error message on the VMware site.  Is there a better way to convert this virtual machine that use the conversion tool?  It sounds simple enough, but I'm obviously missing something.  Thanks in advance.

Stand-alone installation of converter on the host that is running Server 1.0.6.  http://www.VMware.com/download/converter/

Turning off 6 Server and Server 7.

In the first step of the Converter Wizard, select the option for an engine off the coast of the virtual machine.  This should allow you to select the VMX file using a button 'Browse '.

  • Cannot import Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V virtual machines to VMware ESXi 4.

    Hi team,

I use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone to import certain Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V virtual machines to VMware ESXi 4, using another Windows Server 2008 R2 as the machine Agent Converter. Well, the agent connects to the Windows VM source very well (I used the net use command to create a line of conduct...), perhaps no chance to connect to the computer target VMware ESxi 4 and make the converter doesn't work...

    Following is the error message:

"Unable to connect to the host specified" from the converter agent machine. " It is perhaps because the host is not available on the network, there is a problem with the network configuration or management on this host services do not react. Check all components of converter to be able to connect.

So, my question is; is it possible to create a work around (like the net use Windows command above) to make possible the connection of the converter Agent on Linux VMware ESXi 4 machine Windows machine, to directly import the virtual machines of Windows Hyper-V to Linux VMware?

    Thanks in advance,

    It's even easier than that

    Use this: http://www.winimage.com/

Which will convert *.vhd *.vmdk, so you don't need to do all this... Of course, another way is to start the machines, leaving them on Hyper-V and go through the network and process virtual machine as physical machines and do a P2V on the network...

    Hi team,

Needs to migrate a computer virtual from ESX3.5 to ESXi 5.0.

    Please give me the steps.

A note, hence the machine virtual vmx file is on your storage space.

Right-click on the virtual machine, and then select 'delete inventory '.

On your new host navigate to store data with the vmx - right-click on it and select "add to the inventory.

Now you should be able to update your tools and your hardware,

      Dear friends,

IM new to ESXi 5.0, but have used vmware player before that.

Just today I installed ESXi 5.0 and uploaded (using the vSphere client) my existing Win2k8 VM from my Windows desktop. vSphere client is really a nice, easy to use interface.

After you add this virtual inventory machine, when I tried to turn on the virtual machine, I got following error:

      Power DevicePowerOn module has failed.
Unable to create the virtual SCSI device for scsi0:0, "/vmfs/volumes/4fcdd933-d49bf04d-d23d-6805ca06e545/WinServer2k8-R2-x64/Windows Server 2008 R2 x64.vmdk"

      vmkfstools-i "Windows Server 2008 R2 x64.vmdk" zeroedthick temp.vmdk d

This has created 2 files: temp.vmdk and flat hard-temp.

      I did 'mv < original_file.vmdk > oldfile.vmdk' and ' mv temp - flat hard < original_file.vmdk > '.

When I tried to start the virtual machine, I got another error:

      What is Flash the drive?

How to create these discs or how I can convert them to the required format?

I have following files in my directory of virutal on ESXi machine:

Yes you need to convert the vmplayer vm in the format of esxi 5.0 and move it to the desired location and turn on

    • I want to just convert a virtual computer model... and I owe the clone to the model?

can you just convert a VM directly to a model? I'm used to using the windows client, I carefully use the webclient service because VMware forces my hand. I hate it.

I want just to convert a virtual machine in a model. I don't see this option. I see an option to CLONE to a template, but I don't want a clone. I don't want 2 copies. IT seems that it is perhaps the only option with the web client? Am I missing something? And then to turn back, I copy the model to model or something? At VMware really derailed this much?

Client Windows worked fine. Customer Web is painful.

Yes, you can convert a virtual machine to a model using the Web Client. See the attached screen photographed... where is the option for her.

with 2008 use Starwind converter - then uppload the ESX vmdk and create a virtual machine with LSI - SAS controller.

Then start on a recovery CD and it

      Patching - easy Variant

This procedure is used when otherwise the VM would start in a kind of bluescreen 7B.

This means that VMware is the target and that you configure the computer virtual with VirtualHardware type 7.

It applies only if the virtual disk is configured like this

      scsi0.virtualDev = "lsisas1068".

      scsi0:0. FileName = "imported.vmdk".

On the platform target start the virtual machine, newly created in the Windows 7 recovery CD.

After the initialization is complete, click CMD and run regedit.

Select HKLM, then Menu > file > load hive.

Navigate to the Windows directory on the virtualdisk > system32\config and select the file SYSTEM.

When asked for a name enter p2v.

      Then find the key

      HKLM\p2v\ControlSet001\services\LSI_SAS

and the startup type of the REG_DWORD value 0

Select HKLM\p2v, and then click Menu > file > unload hive.

You can now close regedit and restart.

The next time you start, you can start in the 2008 R2 system. He should find the drivers and probably need to reboot when finished.

      Hello.

    • Converter P2V of Microsoft VM to ESXi VM and return

I went to a Microsoft VM created on the Virtual Server 2005 MS to my ESXi hypervisor VM with great success. I now need to go back the other way; ESXi VM (it's a MS 2003 VM server), MS virtual server, p2v converter for this city? I know that MS has a ugly heavy treatment using VSMT (long command line process) and the centre for management SCVMM2008; I know it's a VMWare site that I'm in favor on any MS system I must just have a copy to the standard that our company uses until I moved them on fully to a VMware infrastructure. Thanks for you help in advance.

What should I do with winimage to convert virtual hard disk, I should say the steps you recommend?

Open Winimage.  Click disk-> convert the virtual hard disk image.

Then you choose what format you want to convert.  If you make vmdk, you click vmdk and the location where the vmdk.  Then it prompts you for a name to save this title.  If you click on the vmdk file that you converted, click Open.

Now you must choose fixed size or dynamic extension.  It ask you if want to keep the static file, which means that all its allocated now, or gradually increase the drive to fill to capacity.

So if you have a virtual machine that has a drive of 30 GB, and you have completed 10 GB.  If you choose fixed, that means it will create this new image *.vhd as a 30 GB file (which means that you will need to copy a 30 GB file).  OR you can choose a dynamic extension, which means it is ~10.5Gb file and that you meet the virtual machine it will change to 30 GB over time.

If you are just testing and it will be a short term hyper-V make it dynamic.  Fixed is good if you have a large number of virtual machines and you want to make sure that you have the space.

Then, after choosing the format, you select the file to create.  This is the disk hard virtual target.  If you want to choose *.vhd and give it a name.  Name is not really important, but if you want to remember what it is, do something will allow you to recognize and remember what its for.

Then, it's almost everything.  The conversion will take it from here, it's not too bad in performance.  Let me know how it goes.

So far I have only converted machines Windows without problem, now, I try to convert the Linux (ContOS 5),

After the conversion, I try to turn on the machine, but get a "Kernel Panic"

      Hello

I don't speak of computer virtual SCSI controller, you can get to know that this process.

      (1) select the virtual machine.

      (2) right click go to properties.

      (3) select the Hardware tab, check for SCSI controller entry there you can see if it's the logic Lsi logic or bus controller.

Once again something that I want to confirm, during the conversion, you had a SCSI disk for this virtual machine.

      Thank you

    • Capacity problems memory marketing of computer virtual - VMK_NO_SPACE

      Scenario:

Our client has a VMWare ESXi host 5.5 with three Windows 7 Pro 64 bit VM on it.  We do not have this configured more than the customer.  IT companies set up for them and there is no way to get in touch with them because they have dissolved since.

Our customer has just checked on their VMWare environment and found that among the three VM not illuminate.

I jumped in and felt that the first virtual machine (the one that was powered) has 20 GB of memory, the host itself has 60.  The 2 other VM also had 20 GB defined on them.

When I tried to turn it on, I got:

Unable to start the virtual machine.

Has no power on the virtual machine.

Could not power on VM: msg.vmk.status.VMK_NO_SPACE.

The current swap file size is 0 KB.

Cannot extend the pagefile from 0 KB to 20971520 KB.

      Troubleshooting:

I continued then to reduce the memory two (make the same mistake with the appropriate number of KB at the end of the error each time) until I put them both to 2 GB of memory, then they were able to start up.

After still playing with it, looks like I can split only 5 GB between the other two until I start to get the error again.

      Question:

Don't ask not why the virtual need 20 GB of memory, the client machine just told me that they work very well to have all three of the computer virtual to 20 GB of memory, but why these would stop working all of a sudden until a much smaller amount of memory which apply to them?

I have read the article below, but it did not help:

VMware KB: Turn on/off a virtual machine fails with the error: impossible to extend the pagefile to 0 KB to xxxx KB

Addition to the response of vuzzini - if you happen to run out of space on the data store, set a reserve memory for VMS to their important part push in memory, or just enough, until a swap file can be created on your designated storage space. The memory reserved quantity is subtracted from the .vswp file.

If the host has 60 GB of memory in total, you will need of 2.6 GB Mem free for the hypervisor, more additional of 1270 MB - Let's say 1, 3 GB of RAM to avoid restoration of memorization techniques to indulge. In total, leave at least 4 GB of free for the hypervisor and spread the 56 GB remaining memory as reserves. It would be 18GB booking/VM.

      Hello

I'm planning to virtualize a couple of my servers, but some have

questions about the size limit of 2 TB for volumes on ESXi. I guess that let

me tell you what I want to do and you would be grateful if you can tell me

If it's possible or not, and if yes, what is the best way to implement.

I'm new to VM is so patient with me if I do not use terminology

      correctly.

I want to virtualize my file server. For now, it is a physical

Server that connects to an iSCSI SAN (Dell PowerVault MD3000i) network, and the

LUNS assigned to it is about 5 TBs. To be more precise, the server has a

F: drive, which is a volume of 5 TB on the SAN. This disc has an action

This is useful to our main file server.

I wonder if I create a computer virtual on ESXi server, can I attach this same

Volume 5 to for this virtual machine in the same way I have such that it is connected to the physical

box (if the virtual machine will have the same drive F:, which is actually the 5 TB

LUN on the SAN)? This new virtual machine would replace the old physical box, if

they would not both connected at the same time, in case that

questions. I know it of just the 2 TB limit, but is it just for

data warehouses? Which means, I have no need of virtual on files

This volume, they will be on local storage, I want just the virtual machine itself

have this volume mounted as a drive inside the BONE, so it acts as a

file server (I hope I explained this right). Is this possible, or

always do in the 2 TB limit in this case?
