Copies of images on tape with RMAN

Colleagues dbas,

is it possible to create copies of the image of the archivelogs with rman, and store them on tape by specifying the string that is used by RMAN?

AFAIK, it is possible to create copies of the image on disk only. I need these files stored on tape, however and want to avoid backupsets.

If you have an idea as to if it will work, please let me know!

Kind regards

SEB

Hello;

AS a BACKUP COPY can be done on the disc.

Backup of the COPY of the IMAGE cannot be made to the disk. You have no backup copy image on tape.

http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/backup.112/e10643/rcmsynta007.htm#CHDEHBEJ

A copy of the image is an identical copy of the byte to byte in the original file. Copy the image files may not exist on disk.

See - 4.1.2.1 on Copies of the Image - (Oracle 10)

http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/bkup001.htm#i1034275

http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmcncpt.htm#i1006661

See Chapter 5 of the E10642-03 - Sub - "configure the default Type for backups: sets or backup Copies.

Exact quote:

Note: because RMAN can write a copy of only the disk image, the type of backup to tape can be a backup set.

Thus, you can perform the copy and it then backs up to the band as an option.

Best regards

  • Copies of images RMAN

    Hello
    DB is 9.2.0.7
Operating system is HP - UX 11.23 Itanium

I take daily rman backup of my database as backupsets.

But my leadership asked me: Why can't backups rman as copies of the image.

    I told him that.

    (a) space the backup can be reduced if one takes the rman backups using backupsets (need to backup only used blocks)
    (b) we cannot take images other than disk tape copies

are there other differences hand from above?

    Published by: oraDBA2 on May 5, 2009 16:00

For copies of images have has several advantages:
Recovery time fastest of all the RMAN Backup Options - (a standard RMAN backup set contains one or more backup pieces, and each of these pieces includes data blocks for a particular data file that is stored in a compressed format. When a data file must be restored, as a result, the entire data file must essentially be re-created from the blocks in the backup piece. Copy of the image already has any physical structure, so it is faster)
    Quick backup time
These files can be used in situations of non-RMAN recovery.

And you can use them as well as the incremental backups.

But it depends on what problem your management tries to solve with switching of copies of the image?

RMAN cannot write copies of the image directly on tape. You must use a third-party media manager that integrates with RMAN to back up directly to tape. Alternatively, one can save disk and then manually copy the backups to tape.

And aditionaly, depends on your backup strategy. You are only backups nuer or ago additional so. And with the copy of the image, you cannot copy of spfile.

  • Is it possible backup 11g r1 DB and Recover to12c r1 with RMAN?

I'm trying to save the old server to the new.

Is it compatible to migrate Database 11.1.0.6 to 12.1.0.2 with RMAN?

RMAN restore and recover a previous version of backups. See the compatibility matrix RMAN to https://docs.oracle.com/database/121/RCMRF/compat.htm#RCMRF1949

All output data base Oracle can restore backup sets and copies created by any prior release of Oracle Database.

However, in order to open a database, the data must match the version of the Oracle binaries. If you restore and recover a previous version of the database, you will need to update database permission to open it.

RMAN cannot upgrade and migrate a database, but you can use the wizard for DBUA do. I suggest that you only consider this document showing your upgrade options:

    http://www.Oracle.com/technetwork/database/upgrade/upgrading-Oracle-database-WP-12C-1896123.PDF

Unfortunately, there is no way to upgrade direct 11.1.0.6 12.1 and you must upgrade the database to 11.1.0.7 first before restoring it. Other options, see the link above.

  • Is it possible backup backupset with rman sbt on disk

    Hello

We backup data base of sbt with rman and nmda library (networker).

We want to copy the disk sbt backupset. Is this possible?

    Kind regards

    William

I remember that this is not possible. It was perhaps possible to redraw the rman backup and restore concepts, but there is probably no real business applications. Remember that a band or an sbt (series tape backup) is a streaming device. You can read from tape or write about a band, but you can't read and write in the same band at the same time. What syntax would you choose to perform an rman backup from tape to disk or tape to tape? Rman backup you can specify a peripheral channel of exit and entry for the use of the restore command. As far as I know, the rman backup source is the database control file and it reads no Ribbon.

Can any folk tell me specific steps (order by order) to back up a single instance of the database in Oracle with RMAN?

    Thank you.

Yes, you can restore and recover the backup, but not at the moment. You will only be able to restore and recover at the time of your backup.

    For example.

If you take backup (mount point with no mode of journal archive) at 06:00 and your grave database crashes at 21:00, you will be able to restore and recover until 06:00. You will find all the changes made to the database between 06:00 and 21:00.

If you want your database to recover until 9 PM or until a point in time, then you must put your database in log mode archive, and then save the archives.

  • NetBackup with RMAN ASM

    Hello

We currently use RMAN scripts to back up our 11 GR 2 as Linux RAC databases to ASM.   My company is thinking using Netbackup for data backup.

How does the netbackup with rman?  One way I can think is RMAN will backup of database in ASM and netbackup will recover backups from the box of ASM and passes it to a remote site (I don't know if netbackup can read ASM).

Are there other ways I can use netbackup with or without RMAN?

    Thank you in advance.

No. I say that rreads RMAN frfom of ASM data files and sends them to NetBackup.  NetBackup disseminates the incoming bytes on tape.

  • If I want to keep the quality of the original captured images (from tape), which is the format that I should?

I captured canon hv20 in FireWire to my computer with adobe first elements 11. After the capture, I cut clip three times. Then I want to export my computer due to watching on my 46 inch lcd TV full hd. If I want to keep the quality of the original captured images (from tape), which is the format that I should? I chose mpeg 1440x1080i 24, TI alerts for error. Or I premise avchd 1920 x 1080 p, then it is also more scenes captured. I think it's 20000 MB, scened (without cutting) but captured only 11.2 GB. Please help me. Thank you very much.

I would firstly like to thank you for answering my question. My camcorder is canon hv20 PAL. When I look at the setting of the project, it's HDV 1080i 25 frames per second anamorphic. Duration of the timeline is 56 minutes. I'm sorry about misinformation in an adobe forum. Yes you are right this is not MPEG 1440x1080i 24. I chose MPEG and choose MPEG2 1440x1080i 25 and it convert .m2v file. I couldn't see because Windows media player does not open the m2v files, but I didn't do anything about in order to open the file. I want to learn: my initial project captured is 11.2 GB. But shows on screen m2v files is about 21000 MB. This means that 20 GB! It is same quality my project captured MPEG) and Cup project m2v? What is another way to export? I'm sorry that even once it does not error message about the m2v files. I think I got confused, I think when I chose MPEG, 25 HDTV high quality, I saw the error message but I don't know what is the error message.

  • Remove the archivelogs with RMAN

    Hello

I usually remove archivelogs with RMAN with command as ' ARCHIVELOG DELETE ALL COMPLETED BEFORE ' SYSDATE - 1' if I have to erase the archivelogs to free the space of FRA.»»

My question is if I delete the archivelogs will it deletes the records in the catalog also (I think) so backed up on tape. In this case the catalogue is not information for these records even if they are on cassettes, correct?

So in the case of collection how can I restore them?

    Thank you

The catalogue contains information about the backups.

Before you remove the archivelogs, I assume that you have done a BACKUP ARCHIVELOG (or with the database as a BACKUP database PLUS ARCHIVELOG DATA). Therefore, backups are in the BackupSets that are in the catalog.

  • Set - up physical Standby with RMAN

    Hello

I took a database, including the archivelogs with RMAN. After 5-6 hours after the end of the backup, I created the primary as on DB standby control file:

    rman target $ /.
    RMAN > BACKUP CURRENT CONTROLFILE to STANDBY;

Can I use the FULL existing backup to create a standby DB when the standby control file was created several hours later the backup is complete, or do I need to create a new FULL backup?

    Concerning
    Aingle

    Yes,
My experience on Unix is sooner or later, in the absence of a tape library, you find yourself using NFS.
Be aware that this should be the buffer of NFS 3 + and with a reading and writing of 32767octets.

Apart from this, the procedure seems OK.

  • Preview of the scanned image is good but once saved image is black with horizontal lines

    My OS is: OSX 10.9.3

I have a HP Photosmart Premium series - C309g all-in-one machine. This machine worked well.

    Print is good.

    Copy is good.

But now I have some analysis of the issues, probably due to an update of the OS.

Problem: Preview of the scanned image is good, but what saving image--> the image is black with horizontal lines.

I rumaged through the forums and you have not yet found a solution to my specific machine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Hello

Scan using the software provided as Capture of Image or preview.

The application of scanning HP for your printer is not available to 10.9, you use incompatible software.

  • How can I add image 8-bit with 32-bit image in vision assistant

    Salvation;

I want to match image 8 bits with a 32 bit image assistant vision. I have a research topic on my doctoral thesis on the treatment of the image and I found a picture on the internet like that but I couldn't solve this problem in vision assistant. I have attached to it. Corresponding to the original image and its State binarize on the same image. Please help me, how can I do?

The proposed script was just erase the area of interest, replace seuillees with zeros pixel. To fill this area with a given color, a possible solution is to invert the mask, it allows to make a new image of the area of binarize, multiply by the chosen color (use a saturated color, otherwise you will get color variations) and add the result to the previous image.

That's what made the attached script.
